I have never played offline games and I always hear how people say oh that only works online etc. So how much of a difference does offline make? Are some characters better or worse?
I have been reading that some
Nerfs to season 2 online players won’t even notice…how’s that?
“only works online” is due to reaction times. You just have more time to react to things so defense is a lot stronger offline. I’m not sure how online people won’t notice changes in S2, though. Makes little sense. Unless by “online players” they mean people that aren’t very studied in the game, which is likely the majority of players.
Ok I guess that makes sense then. I find reacting to things is hit and miss. I do the same reactions and in some matches it just doesn’t work and others it does. So I guess that’s just online.
Anti-Airing in general is easier offline I feel. I have some major problems being consistent with AAs when playing online but the few times I’ve played it offline it wasn’t a problem at all.
I don’t think you really have more time to react to things offline, since the netcode makes the online and offline experience almost identical (unless the connection is laggy).
The truth is, online you can meet people with random levels of experience and that usually don’t have any idea of how you play until the match starts. In a tournament on the other hand you always assume that the opponent on your side won’t fall for random gimmicks and will punish them as strong as he could.
The stakes are also different. In a tournament you can only do mistakes once, because if you do them twice you’re out, so every player will play more cautiously until they understand the opponent’s patterns. Online you don’t give a fuck about that; if you lose you can quit the set and hope the next opponent is dumber.
I honestly think that half of the “online only” things are due to either people with bad connections or people who think they are still playing SF4 where there was a significant difference between online and offline.
Yeah I get that. I see a lot of tournaments and I wonder why people don’t do certain things and it’s because they are scared. Online is a mess. It’s gimmickers paradise. That’s just the way it is though.
This isn’t as prevalent in SFV because of the netcode. Delay based made tight punishes incredibly difficult in SFIV. So Balrog’s dash punch being -3 for instance was very hard to punish properly because of the timing being weird in delay based netcode. This made some punishable moves in the game pretty safe to throw, but only online. In SFV your punish game is easier because of the input buffer and better netcode.
This definitely happens with Laura. After LP bolt blocked, I should never, ever, ever be getting a throw or really any other move after it; sure enough, offline I either tech or get punished every time. Online? Anything goes, man.
Most of the time it doesn’t make a difference, but you may be able to get away with stuff that is frame-perfect punishable.
Yeah a good turtle Laura scared the shit out of me. It’s so hard to breakthrough. It’s almost as bad as a guide match.
Bolt, walk forward,I jump, then command grab air throw.
Then bolt, walk forward v skill. Mixup throw.
I need to look into Laura’s frame data because she seems to be an extreme case of frame traps online.
I have now only figured out that kens vtrigger tatsu eats fireballs(after playing for 3 months lol)
So now this opens a little bit up for me with some matchups.
I still need to test if the tatsu goes through uriens agise reflector.
The bad thing is trying to learn to much right now is almost not even worth it since a lot of things are going to be different.
Laura’s VS is -7 to -4 on block. People online make me get away with blocked L or even EX bolts but literally everyone has at least one standard medium punish for my VS.
On the other hand online players almost never try to challenge me with 3f buttons after I hit them with the overhead even if it’s 0.
It’s not the overhead it’s all her plus moves. It’s ridiculous. To top it all
Off they are 3-4 frame moves and all traps. Then a freaking command throw. This chick is the cheap of the cheap.second to mika.
I think a really bad MU for Laura is Guile but ken is such a battle against her.
I’m pretty sure Ken is worse for Laura than Laura is for Ken lol.
She has a lot of plus/safe normals and a +3 EX fireball yes, but that’s where her advantage ends. And concretely she has true 50/50s only after st. LK and EX clap.
Well I’m not claiming to be good or anything because I’m only hovering between silver/super silver but I find that Laura is the hardest matchup for me.
