I’m a lot older than you and I’m in the university - having the time of my life. What’s the rush? The economy is in a slump so it’s a bad market for people looking for work. The problem for you probably is that you don’t live in a decent country with free education, housing, food and healthcare. But basically my suggestion : read, write and learn more about the world. Find a suitable skill-set. It doesn’t matter if you have to spend more years in your small town.
You might think that joining the army right now is your way out, or doing some other shitty job for x amount of years. But remember this. You will have over 30 years to work in a decent place (f.e 30->65, 35>70 etc) if you just invest in your own human capital.
Take a step back and think about your own life. What sort of natural skills do you have and what would be the best possible way to use them after adding some higher education into the mix. Besides, don’t believe that you should have it all figured out so soon. Life is usually best much later, because at that point people usually have some perspective, don’t have any growing pains, have a job+education and don’t really have to deal with age related health issues yet. According to some studies in Finland that point is around the 40 mark.
Funny, sounds like something I went through when I was 20.
Lived in a small shitty town with no career opportunities. Fast food and working in some mill was basically the only option. Everything about the town was just bad.
I didn’t wanna get caught up living in a small town like that, so I did what I had to do.
Started working fast food; Pizza Delivery to be exact. Worked for a couple of months and saved up quiet a bit of money. Once I’ve reached my goal, I moved into a city 4 hours away with a friend I was familiar with. Crashed at his place for a good 6 months, during that time found a job in the city and a apartment of my own.
5 years later, I still live in that city, and I’m fuckin’ loving it.
The Navy option wasn’t for me due to my seizures. So in reality, you actually have more options than I do. If Military life isn’t something you want, get to working a shitty job for 4+ months, save up, and move. If you’re thinking of moving without no cash, then good luck.
As someone who squandered his money and is now paying for it: save. Get the essentials, get the leisure stuff you only really, really want and/or need to stay sane, and bank the rest.
Depending on the part of country your town is at, some truckers really don’t give a fuck if you are a girl or a guy so you could get a ride to another place using the following method as well. Granted, they can also just as easily kill your ass after you do your business but that is the gamble.
Start a business under the table, cash only don’t pay those taxes. Then pick your target city and then pull up that cities craigslist and go through the personals. Let the girls know you are planning to move to that area, this way you will have someone to help you out and take care of you until you settle in. Pick a fat girl because fat girls have food. Once you settle in one of the fat girls hot friends will steal you away because if you treat the fat girl good, then they know you will treat them much better.

And start walking. Sooner or later you’ll find a place that isn’t a craphole. Stop a crime there, move on to the next town, wash, rinse, repeat. Don’t make contact with anybody from home. They must continue to think you are dead, until you can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within you.
