I’m running a team of just Painwheel on point and Valentine on battery. I’m pretty familiar with the MVC franchise and even though this game has certain aspects that are similar to it, I still find it to be vastly different. And I’m having a hard time fighting most people online because they’re just a lot better usually. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the training room but I feel like I’m making minimal progress.
That being said, is there anything I should know to help me get better at this game?
Less time in training room, more time experimenting and playing people.
The first day I didn’t win a single match until about 2 hours in. Now I’m winning most of my matches online.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. Never give up. (too many times I get a huge health lead, and the other person just stops playing). There’s always a chance of coming back. and even if not. use that time to experiment and try and find a way around it for the next match. Giving up you don’t learn anything… Worst case scenario. You find out more things that don’t work so you know not to try it again next time you’re in a situation, and you try more alternatives.
If someone else does something that seems good, try and work it into your own game (if it fits your playstyle)
Unless you’ve been to the gamertag sharing thread you should prob post it here. I’ll play you if I can connect to you that is. NAT type is weird as fuck at my dads/
I’m not the a solid player yet but i can tell you that you have to get your BnB combos down during matches. You can’t drop them because they make a difference between winning and losing. Also you have to keep playing better people, I’m not saying to play a godlike person, just someone thats a little bit above your skill so you can learn and become better. I too feel like my progress is minimal but i just think everyone leveled up within a day while im still stuck at the baby combos and only using one character.
I don’t think getting bnbs down matters as much at the moment since they most likely won’t stay optimal for very long, so you’ll have muscle memory for the weaker combos later on. Playing someone in a long set and experimenting with your normals and specials should give you an idea of what sort of patterns you can use in the neutral game. Once you get an idea of what stuff actually hits, go to the lab to figure out how to capitalize.
I was under the impression that point was the first person on your team, and battery symbolized the second. Just like in UMVC you have your first, second and third, it would be point, battery and anchor respectively.
Unless I’m mistaken, “Battery” is the term used for any character who builds a lot of meter and doesn’t use much, if any. The battery essentially “charges” your team. Point is generally the one who starts the match, anchor is generally the one you want to be your last standing, but the second character could be meant for assist, a backup point, or a battery.
The battery could also be your point (or an anchor, if that’d make sense). In UMvC3, I play Wesker as a battery on point. Once Wesker is done, Hulk comes in and burns the meter as a second point, and Hawkeye is my anchor.
I just go with my SFxTK terminology with a dash of baseball terminology
1st character = point
2nd character = deck(short for “on deck”. you know like the person thats gonna be at bat next?)
3rd character = anchor
Makes it easy for me to remember None of the names refer to roles or purposes, only the position in team.
That’s because skullgirls is only played by fighting game forum nerds. Everyone is solid.
UMvc3 was played by a lot of casual gamers cause it’s much more popular, I mean, it’s a capcom game, said enough.
I dont get the advices of always playing better players, I mean what have I learned when I get beat up by a 50 hit combo, wow no thx. You can tell me what you want, but nobody wants to lose 10+ games in a row, you can’t tell me that this makes fun.
-> Always play against players with equal ! skill ! Everythin else is b.s.
These are the real exciting and fun games, why are they exciting ? Because they are tight, one player often only wins with little amount of life left. It makes more fun to play often together with same skills and to get both better at the same time.
