I’m actually happy when I lose my points to people better than me. At least I learn something from them.
What grinds my shit is losing 100 points to people in bronze when I’m in super/ultra silver.
I suspect there being a hidden ELO system though. Sometimes I lose less points getting beaten by a lower ranked player than against a higher ranked guy.
All in all I think the system would work much better if not everybody and their fucking moms could make alternate accounts.
That just sucks for new and experienced players alike.
There’s been a number of times I’ve been matched against someone that’s lvl 3 and just completely destroys me with non-stop perfect execution, looks very legit.
The problem though is not the fact they can make new accounts but rather that there’s no placement matches or accelerated rating gains for win-streaks. That means that every good player will have to demolish atleast 40 or more scrubs before they get to the level where they meet SF veterans. Alt-accounts are pretty widely accepted in most games as ways to play unorthodox/off builds or just get to be anonymous.
Yeah, I would much have preferred if ranked was FT3. Partly because FT3 lets you actually develop a read for your opponents playstyle rather then just take a wild guess and partly because FT3 would vastly improve the ratio of looking at loading screens vs actual play.
The idea maybe but since there is no promotion system the reality is that low silver and high ultra bronze are kinda the same thing. So it’s not really a league thing.
Of course I agree the difference between 1k and 2k is pretty big.
There are still really skilled players just getting into online, i very rarely lose to people at 1k but when I do its fairly convincing, with good footsies, frame traps and confirms, very easy to tell its someone just getting through the ranks.
As far as skill gaps go, the difference between 1k and 2k is about the same as 2k to 3k, however points are awarded entirely based on league when it should be points based on current points. silver is 2k-4k, the fact that i can lose full points to someone who has almost twice what i do isn’t fun.
I have no shame in admitting that ive simply taken matters into my own hands and “ragequit” before any match that isn’t + or - 700ish points, and will play out and gain or lose points accordingly for matches in that window. Now matches are fun and actually have to play, instead of auto piloting people heavily below my skill level, or just get blown up by people heavily above. If i get points docked, whatever, I’m only at 2k.
There’s too many factors in play. Depending on your region, time of day, etc. There might just not be a ton of other players near your level available at the time. There seems to be a whole whack of players stuck in the Bronze range. Obviously, as you climb, there’s less and less players available so you get paired up with Bronze/Rookie players again. The crappy thing is when you run into a old school player just hopping into ranked now and stealing 100s of your points.
First, I’ll never understand why Capcom refuses to use SF4 vanilla’s Championship mode for ranked matches, it was near perfect for online rankings.
Secondly, 3 things they can do with the current set-up to improve the experience:
#1- Make sure players fight people in there own range; Super/Ultra bronze fight themselves mainly, a smattering of Silver(not super silver or higher). Forces players to fight a mix of equal and superior opponents.
#2- Lock players into a rank. Meaning, once you hit 2k and silver rank, you never fall below that point. Getting knocked back down a rank because you went 4 wins and 2 losses, with 2 of those wins on RQ’s so they don’t count is just stupid. Even more so when the losses were from someone with near double the points, but the wins were against rookies. Just stop that mess, and lock players at the next tier of rank. They have to improve to get higher, or forever be a bronze/silver whatever.
#3- Make all ranked matches be best 2 out of 3 games, like a tournament. There is a reasons tournaments aren’t one single match, 2/3 rounds. Also, increase the fight money earned in ranked to take this into account.
That’s just me though. Capcom won’t do anything about it though.
I don’t agree with locking rank. Rank needs to change up and down. If you start sucking, that’s on you. This is especially important as ranks are relative. If you start off and seem to be good, but as the playerbase fills out it turns out you suck… you need to be placed where you belong.
That said I think an overlapping threshold should be in place. Make the requirement to rank up 100 points higher than the actual rank. Make the rank for demotion -200 points. This means you’d have to step clear of the line to rank up, and have to fall pretty far to rank down.
Actually, to the first part, the way it is now and what I suggested wouldn’t matter really. My suggestion of locked ranks: if your not good enough to get out of Super Bronze after 3 months, that’s where you belong. Currently: If you’ve been Super Bronze for 3 months, occasionally dipping back to Bronze, then you belong as a Super Bronze.
The effect is the same, my suggestion simply cuts out the middle man(demotions) If your constantly going between 1,400lp and 1,600lp, your actual rank is 1,500, which is the cut off point for Super/Ultra bronze. May as well just lock the player at that point until they improve enough to get up to the next rank.
All that said, this is really just my own personal preference, as like I said, the effect is the same.
I do like the second point though. A lot, actually.
I kinda wish they did the rank like marvel where there’s like afew in between ranks before you get demoted,I really wish they made rank like sf4 champ mode
Championship Mode was near perfection for a ranking system. I can’t ever understand Capcom’s refusal to use it again, despite the fact so many people were asking for it they had say “Nope, not happening”
i’m kinda tired of even hitting ranking if it wasn’t for me trying to hit gold and beyond.
Every time i fight someone higher than me and win, they rage quit. everyone who wins lower than me usually wins by last minute v trigger gimmicks and i gotta hold a 100 point loss every time.
Honestly i woulda been platinum by now if it weren’t for this shit.
I don’t agree with the rank lock, but they should definitly improve on this. It’s kinda stupid to be able to get promoted or get demoted every other game when you are at the limit.
What they should do is promotion/demotion sessions imo. Like if you’re ultra bronze, you are close to 2000, you get a pop up thing telling you that you’re going to get promotion games, then you get paired with 5 silvers (not super silvers or ultra silvers) in a row, if you win 3 you get in. And the opposite if you loose too much in silver it tells you these are your league down games, you fight ultra bronzes, if you loose to 3 of them you rank down.
That’s kinda how LoL does it if I remember correctly.
Then people would play more than they need to
Say you’re at 1950 and you need to do your placement matches
Your best outcome would be winning 3 outright but you would only get rewarded 50lp for 3 games to rank up?
Your worst outcome would be playing all 5 placements only to earn 50lp?
Then the derank placement after failing rank up placement would mean you’d have to play a possible maximum of 10 matches only to stay in your current rank
Well, they could take all the lp from the rank up matches, and upon success you receive all those points. So, if your at 1950, play and win the 3 matches, you’d get 150lp for them, putting you at 2100 and a newly minted silver rank.
Still say ranked should be like SF4 vanilla’s championship mode or all ranked matches be best 2/3 matches like a tournament setting. Leave casual matches one and done.
They removed championship mode in super for good reason. By having separate pools of players, you end up increasing wait times for everyone. The only players that ought to be isolated are the rage quitters.
The concept of Champ mode rocked, but as usual, Capcom’s execution of it was terrible. I got to the top rank (whatever it was called, I forget, where you needed I think 70k points) and once you got there, you were pretty much done playing against people because there were so few up there.
It was like beginner was 0-10k or something, then middle was 10k - 70k, and the top was 70k+.
It was way too lopsided to actually be any good. The actual concept behind it I loved, and I loved grinding to the top rank, but once I was there it sucked.
