Hori's booth at TGS - HRAP V, Taito Viewlix, V3, VX!

Really, when you guys see what really inspired the HRAP V series, you guys are going to flip.

I don’t think the TE inspired it as much as another stick design that has been floating around.

Also, lack of universal mounting bracket hurts me. Why Hori!?

Looks more like a cross between an SE and one of those knock-off sticks people occasionally mod.

I just noticed that too. Somehow I have the feeling that they would rather release a Seimitsu version of the stick than use a universal mount.

Mad Catz shall release a double-wide Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition that shall be known as the Mad Catz AFS-0130 which will be a 2 player panel featuring lock switches, a perfect Vewlix layout, a metal control panel which is interchangeable with authentic Sega Lindbergh and Taito Vewlix panels, and it shall have hand warmers for the days when you’re for some reason playing outside, a 14 port USB hub on the side panels, and 2 cup holders for whatever beverages you may be consuming.

You heard it here folks.

No ashtray?! F@$% this…

Seriously! That alone made me even happier about my recent HRAP 3 SA purchase

What’s holding the top plate on?

Nah, sorry mdsfx; ashtray only comes on the Marvel vs. Capcom Collection special Happ Edition which features the American straight layout and smaller cup holder cylinder spaces which are actually sized to fit Pringles tubes.

I agree; one thing that Hori did right with their later Real Arcade Pro sticks was include that universal mounting plate for Seimitsu sticks. I don’t know how I could’ve ever gone without a Seimitsu LS-32-01 on my RAP2 SA.

And I do agree; I love those Sanwa SR-110 quick disconnect plastic covers. It adds a really nice little touch and probably makes those quick disconnects easier to remove!

That viewlex, looks so nice

Any more impressions of it? Do you like it more than the older HRAPs? Only thing I don’t like from the pictures are the extended sides.

Hopefully mine shows up today.

It’s basically a proper recreation of a vewlix setup which is what I was after. A bit more so then TE because of the wrist space below the buttons is accurate as well (my hands are small so I like this design). If you’re not interested in that then it isn’t really worth it and a HRAP is fine.

The sides are fine to me, I don’t like the look of the turbo buttons but I can live with it. I haven’t hit the start button during play, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Personally, I’m going to stick with my TE for now unless I can use the V3-SA on a table. The V3-SA just doesn’t feel solid enough which I find helps when you use sit the thing on your lap.

Oh, I hope you get your soon. I too would like other people’s impression

How’s the top plate held on? Screws under the laminate? Can’t really see.

when do those HRAP V come out for 360? and how much are they gonna be?

What are astro city style QDs? are they easier/harder to use than qds (or those professional barrel connector style qds)?

Here’s some photos and comparison shots with the TE. I’ll post up some internals later when I get a chance to open it.

Mine came shipped without the bay door attached.

The dimensions overall are very similar to the TE; you can tell Hori had their eyes on MadCatz’ design when putting this together. It feels a bit lighter than the TE, which some people may not like. It is not featherweight at all though, nor does it really feel cheap, but I would say it feels a little less hefty.

It looks larger in front of you, but feels smaller with your hands on it in play, since there is less surface area on top, especially below the stick and buttons. The closer slant on the front does give you a place to rest your right palm, and appears to be designed with that in mind.

Height of the case itself is nearly the same. The V3-SA’s rubber feet are countersunk in the bottom panel, so they only poke out slightly. Kind of a nice touch.

The surface is a slightly textured matte plastic on top of the metal control panel.

You’ll find the warranty-void-if sticker on the bottom, covering up a screw. Look familiar?

Overall this seems like a pretty decent, nice-looking stick, with a couple steps back for what we might expect from Hori (no universal mounting plate, significantly lower weight). Definitely not a TE killer in terms of pure functionality, especially with what we’ve seen of the interior. I’m really interested to see what MadCatz is going to drop at CES in January.

Alright got mine about 10 minutes ago, so I haven’t had much time to use it.

Here are a couple quick impressions:

Like you said the stick is pretty light for its size. Not horrible or anything, but just lighter than I thought it would be.

Works fine for me playing on my lap. Was a bit worried when you said you didn’t think it was good for lap play because that is where I mainly use mine.

Really like where they placed the turbo buttons. Doesn’t mess with the face of the stick and is out of the way. I hope other manufacturers take note and do something similar with their future sticks.

I have no problems with wrist space or the start button. I have fairly big hands and just don’t find it to be a problem at all. I only use the first six buttons, so maybe someone who uses 8 will find it to be more troublesome, but I doubt it.

One thing I really liked about the TE that I am surprised Hori didn’t incorporate into this stick is the bottom metal plate sitting flush with the plastic shell of the case. I know this is a bit nit picky and doesn’t affect the performance of the stick at all, but I think it makes the case look and feel a lot nicer/more expensive… (say running your hand onver the bottom it would feel like one smooth surface…).

Also not sure why they went with the extended sides. It isn’t a huge deal, but I wish they would have just made it a solid case rather than have the cutouts on the ends.

Also not sure how well art mods are going to work. The overlay seems to be a bit bigger than a sticker or laminated sticker so I imagine it is a bit too shallow for plexi to sit flush, and too deep for someone to use lamilabel. Sure we will see someone do something nice though.

Overall I like the stick a lot.

I don’t believe this will kill the TE.
The start/select(or back) argument will always be there with Hori. Though your fingers shouldn’t really be traveling that far, I’m sure mistakes happen and it will be hit on accident.
The shorter space for wrists I can get over, but it is what made me love the original HRAP’s.
They kinda went odd with the design concept on the sides, and maybe the plastic on top of metal idea.
But you do have a lot of room on the back for mods.

Is there a lockswitch on it?

Nope, no lockswitch. The right side beneath the edge would make a natural spot for a lockswitch install, though. I actually like the little overhang edges, style-wise.

Yeah, if Hori was going to borrow design cues from MadCatz, you’d think they’d copy the important functional concepts, like the home button lockswitch and keeping the Start button away from mashy hands. At least the placement is better than the previous HRAPs.

Really the Select button should be there, for that alpha fake fireball action.
