Hori tekken 6 stick

OK, so my Sanwa buttons arrived, and 6 hours later, I’ve got them installed.

Instead of cutting off the tabs, I decided to drill new holes to match the Sanwa pin spacing.

I drilled the slots from the back side, using a Dremel with a 3/64" drill bit. The slots need to be about 3 times the height of the original holes. Here’s a diagram:

And here’s what it will look like when you flip it over:

There’s still lots of exposed metal to resolder the new pins to. No wiring required, just solder them into place!

Some notes about the Sanwa buttons: They don’t fit. After grinding off the metal tabs on the faceplate, they still wouldn’t go in. You need to widen the holes. I spent about 60 seconds going around the edge of each hole with the grinder, and finally they were able to fit. But!.. not all the way. There’s four little plastic tabs on the buttons that keep them from sliding all the way in. Instead of making the holes even wider, I just ground these little tabs off the buttons, and finally, they went in.

The smaller start and select buttons didn’t need any special treatment, they fit fine.

chaosmachine, had this idea come to you?

When I modified my Namco in 2007, I bent the Terminals too.
Bent Terminals on my Seimitsu PS-14-K to align with holes.

No hate.
Just showing more options.

Hi people, I’m a long time lurker of this thread, and seeing as nobody’s posted a comprehensive PS3 Stick mod, I thought I’d do one. Just bear in mind that I’m a total nubcake w/regards to modding sticks and it is my first, so be nice :3 I only modded the buttons… I can live with the stick for now.

Parts:
8x White Sanwa OBSF30
16x QD’s (2.8mm)
Wire

Tools:
Needle File Set (Get a Dremel or rotary tool… saves an infinite amount of time)
25W soldering iron
Desoldering pump
Triwing screwdriver

First, get the triwing and open it up. Looks something like this inside

Disconnect all the leads and desolder all the buttons. Take off the PCB and put it aside, cause we’ll need it later.

Pop out the buttons and throw them away if you want. Then grind down the tabs holding the old buttons in place using your files or rotary tool. I personally used the files, and they were good enough provided they’re the bastard cut type. Then file down the four little tabe around the buttons, othewise they won’t fit in fully.

Once all the buttons are in, crimp up your wire and QDs. I used about 10cm of wire per connector. Alternatively you could solder the wire directly to the button. Don’t connect the QDs to the button yet… in the photo it’s just sitting on top

Once you’re done doing all that solder the other end of the crimped wire to the PCB, where the old holes were. Then hook it up the QDs according to the layout of the buttons. Bend the pins of the buttons to horizontal, otherwise you aren’t going to able to close the back.

If you want, you can get spacers or a lot of double sided foam tape and fix the board to the stands… I personally didn’t bother. Close it up, cross your fingers and test it. and this is my final product

and this is the one my friend did… he only changed 4 buttons, and the 4 shoulder buttons are disconnected

Hope this helps future modders of this PS3 stick

EDIT: Sorry for the crappy quality, it was my phone camera

That was my first idea, but I didn’t want to risk breaking the pins. If they can really take that much bending and still hold the board in place without breaking, then it’s probably a better solution (especially if you don’t have a drill press).

Thats exactly the way i modded the Fs3, and i plan to do the same with the ps3 t6 stick, quite easy to do

I’m tempted to just bend the connectors and do it that way, it’d be a lot easier, but I can’t stand the button placement Hori has, I need to keep A and B on the bottom, X and Y on top.

You sir are a Saint! Thank you for finally becoming the hero of the thread and posting comprehensive PS3 screenshots.

Has anyone here tried to completely move the insides of the stick to another case? I plan to do that, but I’m don’t know what to do with the PS button. Does it work like a Xbox pad button where you scratch off rubber and solder directly to the contact points?

nah…if you just get the stick and 8 buttons or so its around…80…

Everyone is talking about how light the stick is, has anyone tried weighing it down at all? I see there are a couple of spots for some washers, but they’re right at the front, it would probably throw the balance off quite a bit.

I want to fill TicTac containers with BBs and tape them in there. I just don’t have any TicTac containers at the moment…

Then you’re stick could double as a maraca. Get a second one and use them on Samba De Amigo.

Makes post win victory dances 100% more awesome. :wgrin:

So I had a thought and I’ve read through this thread quite a few times already plotting my ideas of what I will do with my stick as I wait for my sanwa buttons to arrive. The 1 main thing I don’t like about it, the batteries. I see the tiny little 4 prong connection…perhaps to connect to a battery somehow?

So if anyone could kindly point me in the direction of how I could possibly make this 360 stick no longer dependent on throw-away batteries?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help

You could always use rechargeable batteries. Eneloops are the best, lasting much longer between charges than other brands, and sell for about $11 on Amazon.

Yeah…but I was kind of thinking of cracking open a PS3 controller and wiring it for USB…or cracking open a 360 controller and using that battery pack so I can use the same rechargeable packs I use for my controller. But if it gets complicated I guess I’ll try out that brand of rechargeable, thanks for the input

I picked up a PS3 version of the T6 stick. I plan to dual wireless mod this version as well.

is it worth it for 80 bundle right now at amazon??? considering you have to get sanwa stuff for it later…

Considering it’s only $20 more than retail. Yes.

The sticks alone got on eBay for $55+ the Game can be traded back to Amazon for nearly $36, I have 2 360 sticks and 1 PS3 one.

It is definitely worth it even though the PS3 stick I now hold is greatly losing value kind of sucks…

Perhaps it will end up dropping so much I’ll open it up and dual mod my stick even though I own no fighting games for my PS3…
