Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

You can leave the metal mounting plate on the T5. Take the mounting plate that comes with the Sanwa off the stick (unscrew the 4 screws).

And exactly what metal work was done to the T5 mounting plate?

You don’t mod the metal mount at all. The 4 screw holes on the metal mount line up with 4 holes on the JLF.

No pics or further explanation is necessary. It’s eaSy PeasY.

Sweet thanks. And sorry for being so difficult. I’m new when it comes to these things obviously.

EDIT: Sorry, this The Lemur, not Az.

Hey does anyone know what are the screw sizes that mount the stock joystick to the mounting plate?

you should have them already(assuming you didn’t toss out your old stick parts…

It’s the screws that held the original Hori stick to the mounting plate iirc.

haha i bought an emtpy t5 off someone and they didn’t include those screws which is why i need to go buy some.

I want to mod mine, but I’m not taking a chance with out a video tutorial. If I mess up (I fear the soldering aspect) I won’t have anything to play on.

hey guys I’m having trouble soldering off the buttons. When I solder them I’m using the bulb from Radioshack and it doesn’t completely pick up all of it. At first I thought thats pretty normal but it gets troublesome to get the little excess piece out of the pins. I just wanted to asked if I was doing it right or should I get a different solder

you have to kind of tug at the pcb while the solder is being heated. start from one end and work your way over. thats how i did it.

you can always take apart something you dont use and practice soldering until you are comfortable enough to do it on your stick.

Yea, that’s what I’m going to have to do.

oh thanks man I’m gonna have to try that. can I ask how long does it usually take to desolder all the buttons off?

The bulb from radio shack doesn’t work for everyone. I used desoldering braid and it literally sucked up all the solder from the joints. Basically all you do is press the braid to the solder joint with your iron. After you use the braid on all the joints you just pull on the pcb and it should come off.

Took me 10 minutes to desolder all the buttons. Desoldering braid is awesome.

IMO, it’s really hard to mess up if you are trying not to. Just watch some youtube videos on how to solder and you should be good.

Where can you get a Desoldering Braid? I looked in my local hardware store and couldn’t find it and when I asked one of the clerks I only got blank stares.

Hardware stores around my area are kinda lolz, the clerks told me to wipe off the solder with a wet rag…

To get desoldering braid try radio shack or your local electronics store (I got it at Fry’s Electronics). It is also called (de?)Soldering Wick.

Thanks, I’ll look into that.

is there any way to lower the TRI and CIR buttons and cover the R1 and R2 buttons on the plate

(making it look like a HRAP 2 with a button plugs)

What do you think?

Thanks guys for making such a great guide. I’ve been lurking for a while in this forum, and I finally modded my T5 stick with this guide as my main source of information. Here’s a picture of the finished product. = )
