Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

It would fit but why? The T5 stick was designed with Japanese parts in mind. Hori probably didn’t think that we would find a way around modding it, but the buttons and joystick are Japanese style. In theory you would be able to, but the problem you would run into is the nut to hold the button in place. I think the screw for the button is too large to fit side by side with another button. The spacing between each button is about 2-3 cms. But again when there’s a will there’s a way!!! Good luck with the mod

Is it possible to remove the mounting plate for the stick that came with the controller? I have a seimitsu stick I want to put in there but the base is too big (I think) to drill a hole through it. I wouldn’t mind having screws through the top of the artwork (like the one here http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g42/V4MPIRO/S5030370.jpg ), but yeah I’m not sure how to go about getting the mounting plate off. (Otherwise the stick would be way too low, I think)

I remove the mounting plate drilling the soldering points.

Hey V4mp I’m reading your guide to help me when I decide to mod my T5 stick,

I was curious as to what you used to secure your PCB on the bottom of the case, as the board is soldered to the buttons pre-mod.

Thanks in advance

ive modded a stick for a friend with happ convex buttons so it can be done. you will have to remove the tabs, no way around that. the happp buttons have a smaller diameter than the sanwa so there will be some space between the button and the button hole, but not that much. once you screw em down with the nuts, they wont move.

oh, i had space to screw in all the nuts so that was no problem.

the only thing that was tricky was the length of the happp buttons; they leave almost no clearance to still have the hori pcb sit in the case comfortably. be aware of that when buying some buttons and try to get the ones that are shorter.

i ended up going with Sanwas and an iL comp stick. my next box will be full Happ.

Another quick question since I’m about to purchase my parts.

Will snap-ins work with in there, and if so why did you choose screw-ins?

Also what Diameter(I’m assuming 30 mm(at work atm :S))

Also what is the major differences in the different JLF’s

Again sorry for the nub questions and if there is a thread for the stick questions feel free to point my ass in the right direction lol.

Snap-ins work the best. OBSF-30s are what i used. The problem with screw-ins is sometimes you’ll have to shave the nuts to get them to fit side by side on the panel.
And I don’t really know anything about JLF’s so you might wanna try this thread.

scoops … haagen daz … how did you apply your art? is it under something?

I just cut some contact paper with a little extra to wrap underneath the panel to hold it on.

You are da mangs son!!! Very professional how you mounted the Comp in there. How do you like the Sanwa buttons? They’re a lot more sensitive than the happs.

haha, thanks. im very happy with the way it turned out. except I HATE SANWA BUTTONS. way too sensitive, especially for a game like marvel. but i have a set of happs coming in a couple days so it’ll be all good.

I was just looking for a tutorial on this today, because I started modding one and got stuck. Thanks for posting this.

hey got got a question about the white strip thing thats connecting the wire harness to the wires on the pcb. do you really need that or it just makes it easier to wire the joystick to the pcb. and if I do need it where can I get it or something like it? thanks

it just makes everything more organized/look cleaner, its not absolutely necessary. its called a terminal and you can get them at radioshack for sure.

Do Sanwa Snap-ins fit fine in this stick?

Hey, I’m a complete idiot with absolutely no know-how about doing these things. I have a T5 stick and the only thing I want to do is to switch the gate from a square to a circle. Could someone help me out? From the very start, like where to buy a gate, and which one is compatible with the default T5 stick.

cant do it unless you make a gate by yourself.

closest you could get to a circle is probably the sanwa octogate. youd have to install a sanwa stick though.
