Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

I am really new to stick modding… I got a bunch of the T5 sticks when they were on sale at Gamestop.
I have gone through the whole thread and my biggest question is about drilling holes on the gate - how hard is it? And is it easy to damage the gate while do the drilling?
I never saw a Sanwan stick so I have no clue…

its not hard at all, and since its a small hole, there is hardly any chance you will damage it.

Thanks for the info.
I guess I really need to buy a Sanwan stick to have a good look at it.

no problem.
Its sanwa by the way

I was able to install a ls-56-01 into a t5 case. It involved me using the gate as a guide to mark on the stock mounting plate where to drill. Marked the holes with marker then drilled the holes. In place of the 4 screws that hold the gate onto the ls56, i used the t5 mounting screws. They are long enough that they go completely through the ls56 and still have enough length to mount to the t5 bracket. Was a pretty easy mod. Sits at 23mm, which happens to be my preferred mounting height.
THis mod will especially be good if you happen to have a spare t5 case laying around. LS56+seimitsu buttons is the best alternative for MVC2 using japanese parts.

On a side note, i put it together with parts i had in my house. If anyone wants to trade my blue ps-14-kns(3-4hours of play total) for clear kns hit me up. Also have the white rim/ black plunger ps-14-dn’s for trade for other dn color too.

Is the dog included with the trade?
I still need to pull the tools together for modding this thing, I’ve had my T5 for a month, only thing I did was the bolt mod. Even with zero experience soldering, it looks pretty hard to screw up. One thing I was wondering though, I was going to reuse the start and select buttons, are they soldered the same way as any sanwa/semietsu buttons? I mean, just two wires and a few qd’s? Never seen the underside of them, so I’m not sure what the connections are like.

no, they have small little prongs that wont accept qds. But if you wanna reuse the start/select buttons you can. Youll just have to solder the signal and ground directly to the prongs. No biggie

LOL, no the dog isnt included. Everyone has asked me that.

I found my old stock stick part lying around, and I was wondering: Is the stock stick for the T5 any good if I were to change the microswitches to something more sensitive (like cherry switches)?

I tried searching but nothing came up.

Hmm, would make changing art a pain in the butt, may as well spend a few bucks on new buttons. Standard 24mm, right?

kit- yeah, 24mm is what you need.

saikyo- im not sure if the cherry switches would line up with the stock hori stick. So it all depends on that. Also, you would need a stiffer spring to go with the cherry’s. Plus the gate on that stick isnt very good either.

Thanks.
@saikyo, a JLF would run you about $20, worth it just to pick it up and be done with it.

I don’t recommend playing on the metal top plate, you should put some art on there.

Because after a few weeks of play the plate is going to start to rust and shit where your hands sit, becomes very uncomfortable

Thanks koh, but i already know about the metal. I will put art on it soon. But I need to get the right color buttons. Plus i still have to fill the L1,L2,Start and Select button holes. Once i fill the holes, ill sand the holes and give the whole plate a minor sanding. Then throw a light coat of rustolium on the whole plate. If the t5 stick is for my own personal use i always use paint to help protect the metal from rust. In fact if you look at the tutorial on page one, thats my guide. I even painted the plate in that guide.
Thanks for bringing that up, alot of people dont think much about how to protect minor things like that.

AJ - that LS-56 looks huge. How are you liking it? How does it compare to the LS-32 series and JFL?

I like it alot. I mainly decided to get it to use as my mvc2 stick. Ive played with acouple of ls56s in the past. so i knew what to expect. Its stiff and has a really small throw. You barely have to move your wrist to get motions out.
Ive used it mainly on mvc2, kof and sf. And it performs very well. With that being said heres the order of my favoritism

  1. LS32
  2. LS56
  3. JLF

I like the ls56, but i feel more at home and comfortable on the ls32 overall

edit- have you tried the AKI shop. Whenever they open shop it only takes acouple of weeks to get. Infact, you should send them an email asking if they carry that 24mm black button because you need XX amount for a project your working on and you were just making sure they had some in stock for when they open. I did that when i asked about my ls32 switches. Even though they were closed he still took my order i got them in 2 weeks. Great service.

Has anyone tried to do a headset mod for the T5? Do you even need to use one if you have a wireless headset?

Bump. Also, anyone try to put a Perfect 360 in a Tekken 5 case? Is that even possible? How would the bat top get through the hole?

you can just run a headset from the 360 pad. Ive drilled a small hole on the side of a t5 case and glued a headset jack. Ive also seen someone use a hole plug as the housing for a jack too.
Not sure bout a perfect 360, but ive seen an IL comp stick before. Its somewhere on the first few pages. I think the poster is scoops

Yea I was going to do that but I dunno if I want to drill another hole. I’ll think about it. Might just get wireless mic.

I sent that money btw if you didn’t notice.

wireless is the easiest method and most expensive. Its all up to you. Here a pic of ibeatu’s t5 stick i modded. heres the headphone jack.
