probably a really stupid question, but can i just use electrical tape instead of soldering for the wires going to the pcb?
i’m not sure why this wouldn’t work, so if someone could enlighten me i’d appreciate it.

Electrical tape will NOT make a reliable contact between wire and copper traces. It surely will not hold up to repeated button mashing.
Soldering something is no big deal, and it’s fun. I love the smell too. Really I do, why? I dont know.:looney:
thanks for the great tutorial. i ripped off the t5 art and sanded the top to get rid of the residual adhesive matieral. i thought i could just leave it like that but i noticed some stuff building up in the metal top. i totally forgot about the possibility of rust. i would like to keep the metal/steel look but looks like rust could form…would a clear coat be good enough to prevent rusting?
i just finished the t5 stick … 2nd time i’ve ever modded a stick … pretty happy with how it turned out
much thanks to aj for the tutorial and all the ppl answering my stupid questions.
cheers
yeah, to remove the adhesive residue i used paint thinner, alcohol and scotchbrite pad. Im not sure if clear coats would work as far a preventing rust.
Im glad my tutorial has helped you guys. Please feel free to give me and other people in this thread some rep for helping you guys.
Thanks
How do I leave rep? I’d be glad to.

You find a post of mine that is useful to you and click on the little red/yellow/green icon under my rep bar.
hey fresh, whats your button layout for the ps2 side of your stick? are you using r1 and l1? Kinda weird. Congrats on the dual mod, havent done one with the tekken pcb yet.
Now you can use the Tekken 5 stick with XBox 360 & PS2, correct?
yeah, just do a dual mod with a hacked 360 pad
I recently was going to start modding an old t5 stick I had, but I pried off the metal tabs from the bottom of the metal plate where I later read is where I would mount the sanwa. My question is, is there still a way to mount a joystick to this with it being flat now without the tabs, and if so how would I go about doing that?
nice guide man
Option 1: Countersink the mounting holes from the top. Place artwork over it to hide the screws or place art and plexi cover over it. (when arthong has those made and available)
Option 2: Contact Vocalninja for a new T5 plate with a plexi top. 55.00 shipped iirc.

Yes i am using r1 l1 why is it weird?, does anyone know how i can shrink the pictures there huge!
R1 and R2 are the default buttons for f.punch and f.kick on sf and other 6 button fighters. Thats why i was asking.
Also, as far as the pics go, whatever pic hosting site your using they usually give the option to shrink them down when you upload the pic or you can just put a link to album.
Great guide lots of helpful tips, defiantly gonna be using this for my first mod!! half way done! just waiting on my parts!! :wgrin:
man good job!
modding own stick rocks.
Check out this bootleg hori tekken 5 stick I modded for someone. the case itself is actually like the Tekken 4 stick. The thing i liked about it was the button holes didnt have tabs. I didnt even have to file down the small tabs on the sanwa buttons. It was similar to modding a fs3.
The start/select buttons suck though, really bad. Very loose feeling. I like the artwork better on this than the offical stick lol.

Dumb question, I found this guide after I grabbed my controller and I tossed away the screws that came with the joystick. I’m currently using a JLF Sanwa, do I need the screws to be in 7/64?
