Hori T5: Modding Tutorial

You can’t go wrong with the soldering contacts. They’re super huge

i have a question, can you replace the pcb that comes with it, and put a different one so you can make it compatible with ps3? or what would you need to make it work with the ps3, besides a converter. basically i want it to be modded from playing on a regular ps2 to play on the ps3.

yes replace it with a cthulhu board by toodles. uses a standard usb cable to connect to your ps3.

What is that white thing u use to lift up the PCB board??? And where can I get it.

Shortman, I believe in a post buried on page 4 or so they were called “Plastic PCB Standoffs” and said that they were purchased online, I looked half-heartedly today actually for them since I am also doing a T5 mod at the moment, if you can find a good link at a decent price for them post up, I will do the same. I will probably devote time tomorrow, since after buttons and LEDs get here I will be ready to go.

I think I’m just going to desolder the PCB and buy a pre-wired PCB.

I’m just not in the mood to buy wires and QDs and shit.

is there anywhere you can buy a pre-wired ps2 board? ive seen the ps3 boards but i dont need that.

i need a backup plan in case i get pissed/fuck up/tired of dealing with this current solder project.

PS1 PCBs is just as good as PS2 PCBs, so don’t rule those out too. Both can be foudn in the trading forums. Although I don’t do the cleanest job, I sell wired and non-wired PS1 PCBs =)

I bought a few psx pad hacks from Tingboy and they were awesome he even daisy chained the ground for me. I recommend him 100%

Here are the exact PCB standoffs I used. I got them off Ebay. It has a nice flat base easy to glue down. The ones that I took a picutre of (one the first page) work also, but I found that these are easier to glue down.

I want to put a Chtulhu pcb in to my T5 stick. I also want to change the buttons. I;m pretty sure all i have to do is get rid of the old pcb and the buttons, but i want to use the stick that it comes with. I was wondering what i needed to do to keep that stick and use it on the Chtulhu board. I think i just need to cut the wires from the stick off the pcb, and add new ones, but I’m not sure?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is the Japanese T5 HRAP the same in terms of soldered buttons?

Apart from the art, if I remember correctly the only difference was the stick (Sanwa in the Japanese, Hori in the US?). I have one somewhere and I might try to mod it for PS3 usage some day.

just bumping this, to see if anyone has the answers im looking for

yea that’s all you need to do. Just remember that you need to daisy chain ground on every single switch on the stick and the buttons.

would you or anybody be able to explain that a little bit more. I’m not to keen on daisy chaining.

couldn’t i just use quick disconnects and put the ground where they go on the PCB?

quick question, i need to sand those tabs off…what grit is that sand paper? i’m gonna get that done and paint the cover tomorrow but before i go on a search for that sand paper bit i need to know the grit. i didnt think sand paper was that strong, those tabs seem extra stubborn.

get a metal file, its going to take forever with sandpaper

or a dremel. I got mine off craigslist for $15 =D

well i had a metal file but a. it took forever b. it was slightly too big and c. it couldnt catch the little nubs it left. i took a trip to the depot for homes and pissed my pants at the price of a dremel…so i improvised and bought a grinder tip for my drill and it worked great. the only problem was it was a tad bit too wide so a few of my holes arent perfectly round but the buttons still lock in and dont wiggle so its all good. gonna paint today during the playoff games and all the hard work will finally be over.

Quick question. Does anyone have the default wiring configuration for the josytick? I was just going to swap out the joystick with a JLF and leave the buttons go. I’m content with a JLF and Hori buttons. I plan on using the original joystick wires.
