Back in October MarkMan announced that Madcatz is manufacturing a Soul Calibur V Soul Edtion arcade stick that uses same design of TE-S model, now Hori is also making a Soul Calibur V themed Arcade Stick, both versions use Namco’s Noir arcade panel layout so which one would you get and why Madcatz Soul Ed. or hori version, are the pushbuttons on hori stock, sanwa or maybe seimitsu. Will the hori be easy to be modded like quick disconnect harness for pushbuttons or a hassle like pushbuttons being directly soldered to pcb, also will there be compartments on hori for usb cord storage and spare parts. What are your thoughts.
 Which do you prefer Hori or Madcatz version
I really doubt they are putting hori generics in the stick. I think hori dropped that practice with the release of the V3 at least for there top teir models
Hey OP you need to put a pic in the first post make it pretty we need visuals
The case is unique enough for anyone wanting something different.
For a Soul Cal fan though, the MCZ one is likely the better choice, especially since that one has the SCV specific layout and from the images, the Hori one doesn’t.
The hori stick is essentially shaped like a box. I still can’t really figure out why the VSHG was so popular. Even though the madcatz one is the same old shape, I still like it over the hori so far.
One thing I like better about the Hori stick is the artwork… I just don’t care for the Mad Catz artwork this time around. It’s the first time I’ve actually seen a Hori stick with artwork that I like better than its MC counterpart!
I dunno about the parts, though. If this were marketed as a Real Arcade Pro, I could see them using Sanwa parts. The fact that they’re not being clear about the parts used is a bit disturbing. Then again, it could be Hori is splitting the lineup a bit and keeping the RAP line while introducing another upper tier/luxury stick like MC did with the TE’s and FightStick Pro lines.
Generally agree with others about the controller case shape… It’s a bit generic. I like having more angles rather than a slab/plain rectangular box. Say what you will about the RAP V3/VX and Mad Catz R1/R2 joysticks, at least they had angles to them.
The MCz Soul Edition stick although not TE branded is essentially a TE-S type arcade stick, so your modding options are the same including changing the art and top panel. Also Stainless steel screws this time is a nice option.
On the Hori Soul V there no word if they use Hori or Sanwa parts, with a few exceptions like the Hrap line I care little for the Hori sticks that use stock Hori parts.
And I am not a big fan of the generic design of the Hori Soul V stick ether. If I wanted a Soul Calubur stick to look the way the Hori does I would of went full custom.
Just to remind people most of Hori’s Game themed sticks are not ever part of the Hrap series and don’t expect quality parts. NO the T5/T6 don’t count as I don’t use construction to consider a Hori stick a Hrap or non-hrap but the branding Hori uses.
there are acouple things I want to know about the hori… like what the hell is that square for on the upper right corner of the top panel… and what ports are those shown on the PS3 stick… one for mic… one for ???
I’m getting both anyways so there isnt too much of an issue… but hopefully soon we can get a confirm on what goodies the hori version is offering in their two models…
Its most likely a USB hub built into the PS3 Soul V hori stick.
The 2nd USB could be used for a keyboard or even another controller.
Doesn’t mean anything, colors can and will get distorted in photographs.
Even when no photoshoping or color correction is used
As an example Photographing in Incandescent lights give everything a warmer yellow tiny and Florescent lights give everything a cooler blue tint.
We also got to consider Hori could change up their colors for there stock plastics.
The Photo of the Hori buttons is still darker than the MCZ which is already confirmed as Sanwa parts.
The PS3 version has black rims and red plungers. Most of Hori’s Seimitsu sticks have had black rims with colored plungers. So maybe it’s Seimitsu, but my money is on stock Hori. Or maybe it is like Mushihimesama Futari HRAP where the stick is Seimitsu/Sanwa but the buttons are Hori.
