Hori Soul Calibur IV Arcade Stick (360 EX2/PS3 FS3) - Repackaged!

Wait. The regular HFS3 didn’t work with Windows/Winkawaks/etc, are you saying the SC4 version does? If that’s the case, I’d have to pick one up.

Would anyone recommend the SC4 stick (PS3) for a person like me who has never owned any sticks before?

It looks like it may be worth it for the low price, but the button placement looks pretty awkward. IMO, it would’ve been better for each row to just run straight across >_<

The buttons placement is the standard over in japan, and yeah its alittle odd the first time you use it if your used to the straight layouts but you get used to it quickly. Alot of people find it to be overall more comfortable to

Its not a bad starting stick, if your on the fence about useing a stick or not this is a good option. As you said its cheap, but its decent quality aswell. It would suck if you dropped say 200 dollars on a custom only to find out you don’t like sticks. This way if you just don’t like how they feel or can’t get use to it atleast your only out 60 or 70 bucks.

the sc4 stick for the ps3 is exactly like the Fs3 stick if your gonna get one get the regualr fs3 stick cause its cheaper unless u want to pay extra for sc4 artwork on it.

curve layout is actually better imo it allows better simultaneous button pusshing better which is crucial in sc4 the straight layout buttons would probably make me push the wrong buttons cause of its symmetry, its like comparing a keyboard to another keyboard where those keys are all lined up evenly vertical or horizontal

Thanks for the replies, I may get one to see if I can get used to using a stick and finally retire the pad for fighters.

MarkMan… now im more lost…
Since the quote by ShinkuuR.
Now if im not wrong this are the thing:

PS3 SC4 Arcade Stick (60$USD) = FS3
X360 SC4 Arcade Stick (50$USD)= FSEX2
right?

now what is the difference between the stick for PS3 and XBOX 360.
I want one of these sticks (prefer the PS3 layout), but i dont own any of both consoles.
I want for game in Windows, y and maybe for MOD for PS2.
Really the FS3 sucks that bad?
What is my best choice?

i want to be sure about that works in Win.

In the Official Web (http://www.hori.jp/us/products/soulcalibur4_st_us/index.html) tell nothing about PC compatibility.

Anyone here own already any of the SC4 joysticks?

Thanks

Aren’t there huge issues with the PCB’s on these sticks? And the buttons? Seems it would be better to get a Agetec and mod it with a Gamestop X360 PCB for both PC and X360 compatibility and ease of use with Windows. Not to mention, more room inside of the Agetec.

Or have they remedied those issues?

not sure. It might be just that the stock buttons are really shitty.

Well to add to these comments, mine just took a dump on me, buttons didn’t input during matches–for half a second or so–and now the joystick isn’t working at all…

Now I’m stuck without a stick. I was thinking of getting one of those new Hori white HRAP3’s but I’m not so sure thats a good idea after my experience with this Hori stick. Can anyone vouch for the quality of the HRAP’s?

I would love getting a custom made one as well but it seems a lot of these guys are extremely busy right now.

I hate the Button layout on the SC4 Stick on the 360

Quality of HRAPs are MUCH better than the HFS3/EX2 clones. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve been using mine for like 2-3 years now. . No problems yet.

Thanks Tingboy, nice looking stick, dig the leds, looks like I’m gonna be getting one of those white hrap’s from stridajin. I guess I can try to mod my fs3 as I learn more about these things. Slightly off topic, do I have to dremel anything if I want to switch the buttons on an hrap3?

Nope. After taking off the quick disconnects, it’s a simple pop off the old and pop on the new. Check my HRAP2 modding guide in my signature. You can pretty much follow it all the way until the stick portion of the guide.

I’ll keep that in mind once my hrap comes in, thanks!

okay so it seems to be a lil mixed opinions here…I who want to get the fs3 now am not sure if i should, but i see one on here modded for like $180 so is the mods worth the diff in price i dont see anyting special about it, no faceplate…or art, just took 2 buttons out and put in those black things to fill the holes…but i need to know is fs3 shit or worth it if i repair buttons and sticks when they die…

its up to you. just so you know, if your fs3 dies (buttons not working or stick) and you end up buying hrap or something else. what happens to the fs3? if it were me id make use of it =D

also this is my SCIV Fighting stick 3

sanwa jlw stick with octagon gate+ black/ 6 grey sanwa obsf30

^^^

Yeah, mine totally died so I’m gonna use its dead carcass to make a semi-custom stick :woot: while I wait for my HRAP3…in the end there is no end…

I didn’t think a Sanwa JLW fit in the HORI FS3, but you also said it was an octo-gate, the JLW only has a circular gate (GT-O). Is the stick a JLW-TM or a JLF? If it is a JLW do you have a pic of how it’s mounted.
Thanks.

my bad, it is JLF.

old picture btw

right now im trying to do quick disconnects and terminal strips to add in a saturn pcb and a pc pcb(that runs on ps3 as well)

im taking pictures as i go. i will post them sometime

update: here we go desoldered my first amateur job, and made it a bit cleaner. just got the small pcb done to make use of the l3 r3 select, start buttons. also added terminals. its a VERY tight fit but i can put max of 3 pcbs in this thing. i may dremel out one of the hollowed support to fit in the third one.

it may not be hrap but its a little easier for me to begin modding sticks since its very cheap.

The JLF seems to me mounted way too high. The shaft seems to be taller than a HRAP, doesn’t it feel weird when you play ?
