Hori Real Arcade Pro FAQ for all versions

I looked up a couple of threads (GOOGLED) about modding the Tekken joystick for non-LS-56/-55/-33 joysticks and this is what I found –

In some cases, cutting down the LS-32 base helps.

In others, they recommend taking off the welded mounting bracket on the T5 faceplate.

I’d probably go with option 2 to preserve the possibility of reselling parts. I have self-clinching studs that I could probably use to create a universal mounting area for JLF/LS-32 on the T5 faceplate. It would be similar to the mod done for the Agetec in practice except for done on a metal surface as opposed to plastic. Seems to be the most elegant solution for the problem. Still requires some brute force to remove the original T5 bracket and a stable surface to drill in new mount holes. I’d probably widen the T5 shaft hole a bit since it’s on the “marginal side” as far as stick movement is concerned.

Plus frankly I don’t like the welded bracket on the T5 faceplate. With the existing JLF mod, it makes popping the gate off an impossibility and I HATE having to remove all those screws to do anything with that stick!

What does the switch in the upper left hand corner do? The D, L, R. What difference does it make?

Directional Pad, Left Analog, Right Analog.

ran into a couple problems trying to fix my stick:

  • existing screws won’t fit when I try to mount a JLF from a stock TE to a HRAP SE
  • replace the C Clip on the LS-32-01 with a E Clip

unfortunately I dunno what size of the screws / E Clip I need…and I suppose any hardware store sells these?

Some use 3/8" E-clip, some use 3/16" E-clip, some use 7/16" E-clip.

A “neighborhood” hardware store is a better place to look for E-clips than Lowes or Home Depot.

I’ve never found E-clips at the “Big Two.”

I have found E-clips at Ace or Tru Value Hardware, though. If not at either of these two places (which I find difficult to comprehend; they’ve almost always had E-clips at these places when I’ve looked), then online is your best shot.

The stores I’ve found these E-clips at sell them for 25 cents each. Online you may get a better deal but will probably have to pay for 100 of them! This is a case where buying in-store may be better even though you’ll pay a bit more a-piece.

(Use online purchases only for parts you can’t find in-store and in situations where mass quantity/cheaper per unit cost makes sense! I find it’s worth it to get most M4-threaded, Female Quick Disconnect, and USB cables online. USB cables in particular are much cheaper online. You can get a good 10’ cable online for $5 versus paying $12-$15 for the same thing at brick-and-mortar stores!)

I tried both the 3/8" and 3/16" E-clips and they seemed to fit the LS-32-01 securely.

I personally prefer the 3/8" because it’s a bit thicker… Thinner metal will tend to bend easier and get ruined.

I have check-fitted the modded LS-32 (with 3/8" E-clip) against alternate restrictor gates and I’m convinced that it should work with with a Sanwa GT-Y octo gate. The E-clip would seem to be an issue and bump into gates but it doesn’t; my personal LS-32’s all have circular gates and I have the subguides on, too. No issues with the 3/8" E-clip hitting the restrictor gates whatsoever.

I have found that when I have to take the LS-32 apart that it gets easier with time to remove and replace the 3/8" E-ring. I’ve only managed to ruin one 3/8" E-ring and that’s when I tried a first-time installation; I’ve never ruined E-clips on LS-32’s that I’ve repeatedly taken apart. They seem to “get better” with re-installation over time.

This is a mod that’s definitely worthwhile in my opinion.

I have no idea anyone would want to leave the original C-clip on. It’s a worthless piece of hardware that gets easily ruined after 3-4 removals and can only be taken off with a specialized tool that’s good for nothing else!

thanks for the info guys but still need to know what size of the screws I need to mount the Sanwa stick correctly

the holes to mount the sanwa plate are not threaded so any bolt with the similar pitch will work.

i wouldn’t recommend using the stock hori bolts to mount the sanwa plates as it can strip your bolts both ways (the screw head and the pitch)

So now that the V3 SA and the VX SA are out does that mean the HRAP3 is out of production now?

Anybody know if the Tekken 6 HRAP is a “real” HRAP or is it like the T5 US? I don’t see any info in the first post about it…

I bought a Tekken 6 new for cheap, the layout is a little strange but I plan on doing an Art’s custom plexi in the HRAP T5 layout.

I don’t know what you mean by “real” HRAP.
The Tekken 6 HRAP is HRAP; Sanwa Joystick inside.

The Tekken 5 was never an HRAP in US.
In Japan though, the Tekken 5 is HRAP.

Thanks for the info.

By “real” I guess I was referring to the FAQ in the first post which says the T5 wasn’t a HRAP…even though it looks like one. I wonder why they didn’t want to call it a HRAP…crappy Hori stick?

Anyways, thanks.

LS-40(01) Mounted on a HRAP 3

Hey Boys

Does anyone know if mounting an LS-40(01) possible? Looking for an easy simple mod.

thanks

No,

An LS-40-01 in an HRAP 3 would be too short unless you do a radical (NOT WORTH IT!) mod. There’s no shaft extender available for the LS-40-01.

If you must have a Seimitsu joystick in the HRAP, the only two that will probably work are the LS-56-01 and the LS-32-01 (with Seimitsu RE Mounting Plate).

The LS-56-01 is the easiest to install. No shaft height issues and it will install just like a JLF using the same screws that held the JLF in the joystick mount. You may have to use washers as spacers to get the right height for the shaft, though. The LS-56-01 has a tall shaft. I was told 5 washers per side was optimum for the LS-56…

As for the LS-32-01, it won’t fit as is since the HRAP 3 does NOT have a universal joystick mount. The SS Mount that comes with the LS-32-01 will have to be replaced with a Seimitsu RE Mounting Plate. Then, you will have to find the right metric screws to fit the four holes in the RE Mounting Plate that line up with the HRAP 3 joystick mount. However, you will find the LS-32-01 shaft is TOO short. Your options are to buy shaft extenders or longer shaft at either Etokki.com and arcadeshop.de … Those are the places I’m aware that sell LS-32 shaft extenders for this kind of situation…

I appreciate the detailed response. Man this is a bummer because I have a HRAP V3 and a HRAP 3 both with full Sanwa parts. I really wanted to convert one and equip it with full Seimitsu parts.

I wanted the LS-40-01 because of 3 reasons:

  1. it was used in the NeoGeo Cabs
  2. I have the LS-32-01 on my 360 SFIV SE for Shmups already.
  3. LS-40 and LS-32 have very similar specs.

LS-32 is a great stick but I really have problems with the the stick popping out occasionally. Using it for Shmups is perfectly fine but for Fighters its a whole different story. LS-40 seems to perform similarly to the LS-32 (assumption based on specs) but without the pivoting problem the LS-32 has.

I’ve looked at the stats for the LS-56 and unfortunately for me, it doesn’t interest me.

I’m actually thinking about picking up a TE stick and modding that with an LS-40-01. I’m assuming it would be as easy as modding it with an LS32-01?

Anyways GeorgeC thanks for answering my qustions

Cheers

Yes,

You can use an LS-40-01 in a Mad Catz TE. It has a universal mount like the HRAP SA joysticks. Difference is that for LS-40/LS-32 you have to rotate them a bit to fit them into the mount. They screw in 90-degrees from the way the JLF does. I think the only Seimitsu joysticks that can use flat mounting plates on HRAP’s and Mad Catz TE’s are the LS-55 and LS-56 series. They should screw into the same position as the JLF. The other Seimitsu joysticks are probably too short and need to be mounted with S-shaped mounting plates like the LS-32 and LS-40.

However, you will have to swap the stock RE Mounting Plate (the flat one) that comes with the LS-40-01 with the SS Mounting Plate (the standard plate that ships with the LS-32-01).

You have to use the SS Mounting Plate with the LS-40-01 for the same reason as the LS-32-01 – the joystick is just a little bit shorter than the JLF so the SS Plate shifts it upward so that it’s not too short to play with.

I’ve been thinking of getting an LS-40-01 myself. I like the LS-32-01 but it’s almost like it’s a better version of the JLF and perhaps too loose (stock condition) for sprite fighters like SFII, Darkstalkers, and the Marvel fighter series. Even with spring tightening, it sometimes doesn’t seem to work well with dash moves. The same dashes I can pull on a Saturn pad just don’t come off well at all on a JLF. I think perhaps the levered microswitches of the Seimitsu sticks are a bit better for this… I know I can personally use square gates on the LS-32-01 but I’m inconsistent at best with the JLF square gate. I’m hoping the LS-40-01 addresses the shortcomings of the JLF a bit better than the LS-32-01 which is otherwise a good joystick. I know that looking at the chart of arcade parts on SlagCoin.com that the LS-40-01 seems to be the “tightest” Seimitsu joystick.

IF you have an HRAP V3, there shouldn’t technically be a reason that you can’t use the LS-40-01 (to my knowledge). All the V3’s have been full-up SA sticks and people have been saying the LS-32-01 fits into those cabinets fine – just like it does in the Mad Catz TE and HRAP SA/SE joysticks. I’d give the V3 another chance and see if an LS-40-01 won’t fit in it. It probably will…

GeorgeC

If what your saying about the HRAP V3 is correct then you just saved me quit a bit of money. I’m not sure why I never considered looking into modding the V3 (maybe its because I just got it not too long ago) but now that I’m aware of this, I’m definitely going to look into mounting an LS-40-01 on it.

Again appreciate the detailed reply back
Thanks

You’re welcome!

I just thought about the V3 SA a minute or two after I started writing and it occurred to me that people had said the LS-32-01 was compatible with the V3 SA.

If you research it, the LS-40 and LS-32 lines have parts in common. They use the same mounting plates, spring (LS-32 spring officially; there’s no LS-40 spring), and ball tops are compatible with either stick.

Hence if an LS-32-01 fits with the SS Mounting Plate into the V3 SA then an LS-40(-01) should work, too!

P.S. – The LS-32-01 is the only Seimitsu stick I’ve used on home joysticks. Still looking to get my hands on LS-40-01 and LS-56-01 when I have the cash. At least I know which additional hardware I have to buy to make the sticks compatible with the joystick bases!

The -56-01 is the only Seimitsu that fits nicely into the HRAP 3 without bending over backwards so I’ll probably replace the JLF I just took out of the HRAP 3 with a -56.

I’ll get one of each to begin with and probably stick to the LS-32-01 and either the LS-40 or -56 for the forseeable future.
