haha, I know the feeling. at first I was scared if I’d end up damaging the prongs, but after getting QDs off the first button, the rest of it was a breeze, gl
oh, and if you’re finding that you’re needing to take the top plate off alot later on, you might wanna get something that i call a ‘bolt driver’. I really have no idea what its actual name is, but it kinda looks like a screwdriver except the tip of it allows you to turn bolts instead of screws. Usually it comes with changeable heads so you can pick a shape to fit the bolts you’re unscrewing. Either that or just cut out the base of that plastic “basin”
Followed the instructions… managed to get off the first QD within moments. Guess I wasn’t prying properly, haha. Stick was then modified to Sanwa buttons and used for a few hours when a couple friends dropped by, good stuff.
As for the ‘bolt driver’ … hm, I have a socket wrench that works for that, but that thing in a screwdriver-form would work way better (actually, the socket wrench doesn’t work at all - I have to use my fingers alone to screw/unscrew that part). I’ll look into it though!
why would you cut the plastic part? that takes away from the weight of the stick. I modded my HRAP1 and I had to open the bottom and remove the nuts to get inside the top plate, that’s a normal procedure for it.
Barely. I don’t think a small sheet of ABS plastic is gonna make much of a weight difference, especially if the HRAP is mainly weighted down by two steel plates. I read somewhere that the only reason the plastic part is there for is to insulate sound :L
Like leavael said, I just wanna experiment with stuff alot and its a pain having to have to keep reinstalling that top plate, when all I need is a good 10 minutes to cut and smooth out that peice of plastic - then I don’t need to worry about the top plate again : )
Either way, I’m gonna dremel off that peice of plastic eventually. If I can find the right materials I’ll probally try making some custom sized gates too. Although the official octagonal gate is nice, it could do with being abit smaller
@ruffles - it’s really a matter of what you like, personally I really like the feel of american buttons, but I like the feel of the japanese sticks better. The hori buttons really aren’t that good IMO, so if you are going to go japanese go sanwa. But hey some people don’t mind hori buttons.
