Why wait for a review??? The joystick case is the same one that the HRAP V3/VX Kai uses. The parts are what you want to look for information on and there are reviews of those in separate threads for the Fighting Edge joystick as well as separate threads for the Hayabusa and Kuro.
The PCB is the only reason to buy an HRAP V4 and only if you own a PS4. There’s no separate add-on PCB or replacement PCB that will let you use an earlier-generation joystick on a PS4. The other choice is PS4 pad-hacking. It’s a limited edition production joystick (with the most generic Hori HRAP case on-market) that I suspect will lead to an eventual mass-production joystick release later in the year but only Hori can confirm or deny that.
To sum up: the new Hori parts are easily at least as good as anything Sanwa or Seimitsu manufacture…
The buttons are a toss-up on whether they’re an improvement over Sanwa’s – consensus opinion generally says, "No, we’re not seeing a huge improvement there BUT they’re NOT shit like the older Hori OEM product was, either. These are quality/arcade-grade parts. They do need break-in time unlike the Sanwa buttons… and there are only two colors available. Why won’t Hori-jp show the West love and at least release the white shade buttons in the US, too?"
The Hayabusa is being talked about more because that’s where people are feeling more differences and appreciating that the part is definitely NOT a Sanwa or Seimitsu rehash. A lot of people like it but it’s not universally loved and needed by everyone, either. It is genuinely appreciated as being different and it seems to be the part that people want to buy because it’s usually the joystick/control lever that bugs people the most – and it’s generally the Sanwa JLF that people are not happy with because that’s been the standard production control lever for most tourney-level joystick case releases of the past 10 years…
The last few HRAP releases that Hori has done on Amazon.jp – with the Hayabusa and Kuro parts – are beginning to seem like Hori’s testing the waters to see if expanding production beyond the Fighting Edge with the new parts is warranted. The Fighting Edge itself seems more like the HRAP VLX as times goes on – a limited production experiment; it may be a limited production case body like the VLX. I don’t think a terribly large number of Fighting Edge’s have been sold. Look at how recent the in-depth Hayabusa reviews have been and how little was written about that part and the Kuro until this past February/March – and the FE itself had been out for 18 months already!
All speculation, of course… I do think the Kuro and Hayabusa will end up the mainline parts in the HRAP’s from here on out when mass-production HRAP’s finally surface on PS4 and XBox One.
New toys to play with are always fun, whether they become your favorite or not. Out of curiosity, what was the shipping like from play-asia for that thing? I’ve been thinking about throwing down an order myself but I can’t decide between AmiAmi or PA. PA is charging more but usually costs less in shipping. EMS Japan stings sometimes. Especially on big items and books.
Delivered (NY). Going to try it out right now and assuming it feels like the V3 Hayabusa, I’m going to enjoy this (love my V3). Hope everybody else gets their stick soon too.
Definately going to get this when i get a PS4 with GGxrd, if there are no other sticks available. It’s is also pretty cheap for €137, the shipping costs will make it probably €180 atleast :/…urgh
So hello everyone I am here to ask for some help.
I bought the hori pro v4 to use both in my ps3 and ps4, however since i never had a stick i don’t know much about them.
Imagine my surprise when i got the stick yesterday and apparently the joystick is not working. anyone else with this problem?
All the other buttons are fine, also yes i did try to use all the switches.
My last chance is to try on my ps4 since i already tried to use on my pc and ps3.
Anyone has some advice to give me?
Thanks for the help.
In this kind of situation you need to take a step back and think. If you take it apart you will void the warranty and it might be something more serious than a loose connector. I would probably still open mine but, hey, I’m usually a “Fuck a warranty” kind of guy when it comes to this stuff. If you aren’t prepared to do all it might take to get it back up and running if it ISN’T just a loose connector you might want to exercise caution before breaking that tamper sticker.
I am still thinking in what to do, the problem is i am not really the best pperson when it comes to this stuff, on the other side if i send it back to amiami it will take forever to get it back.
so yeah i might have someone who can chack the stick.
what i might do is see if the stick has problems, it is just a broken solder i might fix here if it is not it is just cheapper to buy another hayabuza stick.
Sending it back to AmiAmi will be a pain in the ass and also you won’t get a new one for a while since they have been sold out for quite some time. It’s probably better to have someone check it.
