I’ve had to repair the problem in three FEs in the past month, and all three had the same problem: the USB cable had a short.

Hori sticks have historically had pretty low-quality cables, so that was the first thing I tried. I had hoped that their “premium” stick would have a more durable cable, but that’s not the case.

Get someone handy with a soldering iron to replace the USB cable (or add a neutrik adapter), and I expect the disconnect issues should resolve.

Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you have any tutorials for replacing a USB cable.

It is more likely there is a break inside your USB cable than your PCB being fried.
I can tell you now the controller is powering on if the lights are flashing, even if its a “millisecond” at a time.
You PC actually detecting a device although the computer states “USB device is not recognized” means the stick is getting power but data isn’t being send back and forth.

It is more likely that the data - or data + lines are broken somewhere.

Here is a quick guide showing the 4 wires in a USB cable are

Note the D- or Data - wire is white and D+ or Data + wire is Green.

Trick now is finding where that USB break is.
The Easy way to fix this is to replace the whole cable. Now for that ANY USB CABLE with a USB Type a Male end would work. The other end does not matter as were clipping that end off any ways. Get a cable that is atleast 10 feet long as you want a good amount of distance from your self and the console.

For your stick I suggest opening up the stick and making the repair inside of the stick. Also include some cable strain release tie a knot in the section of new cable in the inside of the case, so that the cable it self can not get pulled out of your stick case.

To prevent this in the future stop wrapping your USB cable around your stick when you are done with it. Tightly wounding the cable around your stick over stretches the wires inside and eventually leads to a break. Loosely coil or loop your usb cable Like you would a garden hose or extension cord. when you are done and tie it in place using a velco strap. There are velcro straps made just for ting up electric and computer cables.

Before replacing the USB cable I tried the stick on a 360: same problem!!

Blue lights on both sides and on the touchpad went on. But the 360 button does nothing.

Could there be any other thing causing the problem? PCB?

Only things that work are the blue LEDs. Everything else are dead.

I’m trying to dual mod my ps3 hori fe to make it work for xbox360 without fucking up and frying the pcb, especially for the touch screen part.

I know its mentioned that you need some kind of resistor, but i’m not sure where it goes, how many resistors are needed and the type/rating of the resistor.

Any idea where I can get a Hi-Res Img of the Fighting Edge Logo?

I came back here to look up where to wire up start/select for my FE and I saw this. I have a scan of the logo from the art overlay if people still need this.

It’ll look alright scaled down at least. There’s 3 grey dots in the whitespace, that was probably dust on my scanner, gotta remove those manually.

Also I pretty much have PS3 Fighting Edge pinned out, sans the updated method for start/select. I’m about to try the old way with a resistor and see if I burn out my leds. If everything goes smoothly I’ll post it.

e: I can confirm 100 Ohm resistors will not blow out your leds. Also a weird side effect is that they’re always on so if you lock start/select/config the cross will turn pink instead of turning off the rest of the leds.

As with the original post the 100 ohm resistor is required, if not you will burn out your touch panel leds. Please consult this post for all the warnings and a visual aid to wire it up

I’m too nice to you guys. Here’s how to get start/select for the PS3 FE. 360 version should be different since if I recall correctly the signals for start/back are inverted and there’s transistors on the pcb that you can tap so you don’t have to add any inverting circuits. !!! IMPORTANT !!! Whats not shown in the picture is a resistor I added on the 5v line that is labeled in orange. Cut the wire for that pin and solder one leg of a resistor to the wire and the other leg of the resistor to the…

Hey guys!!

Can somebody help me out?? My FE suddenly stoppped working. It worked perfectly fine on pc and xbox360, but now the only thing it does is to light up when I plug it in.
Side LEDs are kinda purple-ish, definitely not blue. Xbox button is dead.

I tried using the USB cable from a friends FE but it still does nothing. His FE works perfectly with my cable.

Shorted PCB? But why do the LEDs work beside the xbox button?

Pretty easy. Just wire up select and start to the pins and wire up 5v to the two spots in red.

360:
This ones a little more tricky to solder to. Select and start are wired to the transistor leg. 5v is wired to the same two spots in red.

There is no need to do any of the resistor stuff like before.

PDP is working on them. PS3/4 version as well. I’d be willing to bet that Madcatz are working on their own Fightpad line as well*. Presumably at least for PS4 whenever they drop Ultra SF4 “Complete” version on that console.
