HORI Fighting EDGE

Hey guys! Just bought the White version for the 360 and I’m liking it! It took a while to get use to it at first, but after a while I’m liking the stick and the overall size and weight of the case.

Not sure I’m sold on the buttons, but they are pretty comparable to Sanwa. One thing I noticed while I was playing is that the buttons started to squeak a little. Maybe the stick is still very new, and it’s the coating on the plastic. Either way I almost have my heart sold on switching the buttons out to Sanwa since I really want all white buttons.

Question is, knowing the switches fit the Sanwa housing, should I swap the buttons and keep the switches? I do enjoy Sanwa, and since they are close, maybe I can utilize the kuro switch to almost get the same effect. My only worry is that I’d be creating a frankenstein button using the Kuro switch and the Sanwa case. Anyone have thoughts or comments who have replaced the buttons, mixed and match switches?

Also in case anyone was wondering, I originally bought 4 White Sanwa buttons to replace the multi-colored Kuros, but the Whites don’t match

if the Kuros are anything like older Hori buttons then you could swap the micro switches
but be repaired to bite the bullet and just go with all swana

You could always stick it out and wait and see if Hori releases a white color option for them when they start selling them seperately. Other users on SRK have stated that the squeaking stops after a while.

Thanks for the feedback! I already bought the Sanwas, but when I noticed the color difference, I hesitated.

Yesterday, after playing around on it more, I decided to swap the buttons.

At first, I put the switches into the Sanwa button and I can confirm that they fit. They did have more of a bounce and “mushy” feel–if only slightly. I removed the switch and stuck with the straight Sanwa button and switch for now.

I took some photos so that you guys can see the difference in whites of the buttons (Sanwa on the Left 4 X,B,Y,LT, and Kuro on the right half)

Strange question, but does anyone have some Semitsu buttons to test against the color of the Sanwa? Are they the same color white? Also are the Semitsu and Sanwa switches interchangeable?

All in all, I am liking the stick more and more. My initial review button wise would be, the Sanwa > Kuro. They just have that smooth feel to them that I instantly missed when playing the Kuros. Not sure what it is, but it seems that sometimes, they get stuck and don’t bounce back the same everytime. I only had the stick for two days, so I’m going to continue to play with them both side by side and see how my opinion changes once they wear in.

The Kuros and Hayabusa stick are on the Hori website http://stores.horiusa.com/others/ but as coming soon… Hopefully they will offer them in white and release them sometimes in the new future.

First off, which of the white buttons are which? I don’t own an FE so I don’t know which white buttons are Hori build and which are the Sanwa’s. You have to say which positions are Sanwa or Hori when you post. Are the Hori buttons B, X, A, LT, or the other positions? You didn’t indicate which are which!

Spoiler

Historically, Seimitsu plastic button colors tend to be lighter than Sanwa’s… In other words, Sanwa colors can be thought as “darker” or “more saturated.” Hori’s plastic colors also have tended to be lighter-shaded than Sanwa’s, too. There is only one case I can think of where I can’t tell the difference between color shades. The red plastic that Hori used in its Tekken 5 joysticks (American market version) was virtually identical to the Sanwa red. I use a Hori (Tekken 5) red balltop on one of my joysticks; it’s not as distracting to me as the Seimitsu red is. Seimitsu red is a vermillion/red shade virtually identical to the Sanwa vermillion shade and I don’t like that orange/red color as much as the darker red. I tend to like Sanwa colors better anyway…

I can’t speak to the white colors Seimitsu and Sanwa use – they are almost certainly different since NONE of the other colors match up at all(!) – but this I can say for sure –

The only Seimitsu microswitches that are cross-compatible with Sanwa SW-68 microswitches are the PS-14-D microswitches used in ALL 24mm Seimitsu buttons (plug-in’s AND screw-in’s) as well as the PS-15 narrow buttons, PS-14-K “Skeleton” buttons and the discontinued PS-14-P “Pearl” buttons. All other Seimitsu buttons use PS-14-G microswitches which are NOT cross-compatible with the Sanwa microswitches. PS-14-G switches have a different size and shape than the other microswitches. PS-14-G’s will not physically fit into the holes/slots cut for microswitches in Sanwa buttons and at least half the Seimitsu pushbutton line. All the screw-in 30mm Seimitsu buttons, which includes the 30mm PS-14-K-N Skeleton buttons, also use PS-14-G microswitches.

Seimitsu complicates its product naming system by being redundant with terminology… IE, the microswitches bear the same designations/names as lines of buttons! Most people’s favorite alternate Seimitsu button (to the Sanwa OBSF-30) is the PS-14-G which is used in most production joysticks (HRAP SE variants, some Qanba’s) that use Seimitsu buttons; PS-14-G is also the name of the microswitch that happens to be used with those buttons as well as ALL the 30mm Seimitsu screw-in buttons.

I edited the post, thanks.

I do enjoy the Sanwa. Perhaps I’ll switch them all out at some point. I might try out the clear ones, since they have sort of a white tint to them and they’ll grab some color off the stick and the side LEDs.

Either way, I might leave it as is until I feel for certain if I want to keep Sanwa in. Perhaps Kuros will go on sale here in the near future.

I am also enjoying the Fighting Edge as well. Unlike you though I prefer the Kuro buttons more than the Sanwa and the NOIR layout feels much better for me. I have always used the vewlix layout and I’m glad I tried the NOIR layout.

As for the Hayabusa stick. It is so much better than the Sanwa sticks in my opinion and I have always used Sanwa JLFs as well. Right now my Razer Atrox and a few Madcatz sticks are just collecting dust.

Will probably get the white Fighting Edge for backup.

White plastic shade opinion ==> I like the Hori shade better, Sanwa’s white looks like an off-white/eggshell color. THAT’S a dramatic/noticeable difference to me. I’d upgrade with SW-68 microswitches if the stock micro’s bugged me that much. At least we know that the SW-68 micro’s fit the Kuro casing. The Hori white fits the FE case better, IMHO.

That’s the one thing that’s been popping up with the FE Kuro buttons.
People like the Sanwa’s better.

It seems that at least half the people that have bought or reviewed the FE generally like the Sanwa buttons better!
Me? I’m happy with Sanwas and Hori hasn’t impressed me in the past with their buttons anyway.
Hori produces good joystick cases and PCB’s.
Their own brand/design parts haven’t so far really impressed me in the past… It’s a reputation that’s come back to bite them and I’m sure has cost them sales on the Fighting Edge, too.
There’s a human tendency towards “try before buy” and it’s just not possible for many potential buyers to try out the Fighting Edge unless someone has one at a tournament or they’re doing demo’s – which isn’t all that often.
It’s very hard to fight against a current market that’s gotta be at least 95% Sanwa-stocked (by part in production joysticks) at any rate. Mob mentality rules and human beings by nature are very resistant to swimming against tides and currents.

The Hayabusa is the thing about this joystick that interests me. As much as I like the Seimitsu joysticks better than the JLF (and other controller brands/models I’ve looked at or tried), I have been looking out for control lever alternatives. I’m really not keen on buying another full-up joystick for this past generation of consoles at any rate. I’d rather finish installations in empty joystick cases. I’m more likely to buy a back-up system for the games I have! A back-up is what I need, not another joystick for a console generation that’s likely to disappear in the next 3 years as its market cools even more.

I’m keeping an eye on the Hayabusa to see if it fits into both my playing style and equipment needs.

I much prefer the Hayabusa to any stick I’ve ever used, but I really don’t like the Kuros. They’re squeaky, feels like they stick a bit, and just generally not as responsive as sanwas.

My Kuros squeak disappeared after a week or so of use. Can’t wait to get more from Hori as soon as they are available for sale. Hori please hurry up!

Yeah? Maybe I’ll power through. Although I tend to like contrasting colors for my buttons. I can use the kuros in another stick if I end up accepting them.

yo this stick is godlike. i swear i couldn’t even come close to Dr Strange FOF loops til i got this shit in the mail last night. now i never drop that shit its my bnb now. but really tho the joystick is smooth as butter I’ve never seen my inputs so clean. I almost feel like im cheating with this stick lol

So white or black Fighting edge? Guessing the white one doesn’t show fingerprints like the black one?

Does anybody have a hi-res image of the fighting edge logo?

Biggest one that I could find… The actual image is larger.

Need it bigger. Looking to do some stick art for it and want to keep the logo at the same size if I can.

Thanks, though!

Is there no way for Canadians to buy a white Fighting Edge?

Pay for a import.

For those of you using a white fighting edge, if you guys don’t know, Seimitsu’s white pops out a lot more than Sanwa’s white does.
