HORI Fighting EDGE

I was having buyer’s remorse when I got the stick on Friday night because I preferred the feel of Sanwa buttons, but now I really like these Kuro buttons. I’m not sure if I’m imagining things, but it seems as if the Kuro’s depress less so you can get faster button presses. The same goes with the Hayabusa stick where the range of motion is slightly tightened compared to a JLF so you don’t have to move the joystick as much. My execution is about the same as before, but I’m more comfortable with these buttons and also the layout. I can’t comment on the Hayabusa compared to anything Seimitsu since I haven’t used them before.

I do have some minor issues with the stick though.

[]The USB cable compartment door isn’t secured very well. I’ve had the door fall off when I opened it to get the cable out.
[
]The USB cable compartment, itself, could be deeper. If you don’t push in the cable tightly then it’s difficult to close the door.
[]The extra compartment door is a little too small so it rattles if you touch it or move the stick around.
[
]The plexi wasn’t cut as precisely as I would have liked. The top right corner of the plexi sticks out a little while the other 3 corners are flush with the design.

The Fighting Edge is my go to stick for home use, but for traveling I’ll use my Qanba Q4 since it’s dual-modded and has a handle for easy transport. As a side note the Fighting Edge does fit in the Hori Travel Bag, but it doesn’t fit as well as the VLX because it’s a little taller.

HORI are incapable of making a decent compartment door. The closest they got was the VLX, all the others are crap which fall off as soon as you open them.

how long

How long did it take to get shipped to you? But i’m thinking about it, i want/need a new stick and i dont want to dish out the cash to be disappointed in the end. if you could do it again would you buy this stick or go get something cheaper

I ordered it on 07/14/2012 and received it 07/20/2012 so it was on the 5th business day (shipped from California to Virginia).

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this stick, but I consider it to be more of a collector’s type item like the VLX. Since I already had 2 fully functional sticks prior to this one (PS3 VLX and Qanba Q4) I didn’t NEED another stick, but wanted it because it’s different and looks really sleek to me.

Under normal circumstances I would recommend the Qanba Q4 (or some variant as long as it’s dual modded) for the convenience even though those are normally $150 before shipping. However if you’re strictly on Xbox360 I would go with the Hori Soul Calibur 5 stick because right now it’s $100 on Amazon with free shipping. I recently saw the PS3 version of that is $100 on Amazon as well, but I think it might be temporarily out of stock right now.

Yeah aside from the parts the FE uses, the Noir(SCV, Gundam VS and TTT2) uses the exact layout and is way cheaper especially with the recent promos making it $100.

Hehe, that door has been so shoddy for so long I just started calling it a surefire way to know I’ve got an authentic Hori product. If I ever get a Hori stick with a door that doesn’t randomly fall off, I’ll know it’s a guaranteed knockoff lol.

My friend always pokes fun at the fact I play on a stick, and one time when my door fell off he commented that “the door to your Bentley fell off.” Ever since then, I’ve kind of grown attached to my shoddy cable doors lol.

I’m sure many people have seen Cross Counter Asia’s review of the Fighting Edge and how the door fell off after Zhi looked at the certificate of quality assurance or whatever. Speaking of which I didn’t get one in my box. Did anybody else in the US get the certificate?

Perhaps they decided that putting a certificate of quality assurance in a box with a stick that could quite possibly arrive with the door having already fallen off would be a little too humorous for us to handle. I know I’d sure as heck get a good chuckle out of it

Apart from the door having arrived in the “off” position, I have not had the door accidentally come off. But I’m a fan of how easily it can be removed. It might be weird, but I’d be more worried about putting too much stress on it and having it break.

I don’t mind having the door fall off as it has happened to my VLX and two V3s I’ve owned, what I don’t want happening is the door actually breaking like the TE sticks. I was paranoid to the point of my second TE stick’s door breaking that I never opened it again, same with my FightStick Pro, just coiled the cable together in the long run.

I want a stick for 10 years or a lifetime. so if i’m interested in those hori parts, i just want to have them. If it’s to have a full sanwa stick in the end, i’ll just never switch then. Too bad Hori doesn’t want my money …

A lifetime? Really? Do you think you might perhaps have unrealistic expectations?

For some reason my Fighting Edge storage door seen slight smaller and it keeps falling off. It’s all like that? Anyone selling their Kulo buttons? Besides the door issue I recommend it’s a very nice Arcade Stick Solid.I didn’t expect to be this nice. Even my finger prints loves it so much.lol

Finally got my hands on the 360 version (local player wants it dual modded).

Already figured out how to get start/back to work on the ps3 side of the dual mod.

I just got it figured last night too.
Laugh.

wish i had the instruction manual. Its weird that it has a,b,x,y,lb,rb,lt,rt,lsb, rsb, back all etched into the screen, but has the ps3 terms for them on the pcb. How do you press the left and right stick buttons?

Maybe he only has 10 years or so left to live…shrugs

Heh, it was so damn easy. No extra electronics needed to tap to the start/back. Though the lock setting won’t effect it on the ps3 side.

@Gummo and JDM
Thanks for the great news. Now I feel I can buy the FE with confidence. Hope you are willing to share on how to dual mod these stick soon…or even at all LOL

Really? I’ve heard that people have so many problems with dropped inputs and such with that converter… If it’s flawless for you then that’s great.
