HORI Fighting EDGE

My idea (feel free to steal it, mod masters) for the stick would have been this.

Keep the touch panel intact, BUT, behind that extra panel on the back where the cleaning cloth goes? Put a couple of hidden Start and Select buttons back there. They’d be completely out of the way (maintaining the elegance of the stick) while offering peace of mind should the touch panel fail. Not to mention, the people who hate the touch panel and/or are concerned with touch panel failure would also be more likely to buy the stick.

In fact, my even purchasing the stick at this point pretty much hinges on whether or not I find out if it’s possible to rig such a thing. That way if my $200 start button goes out on the panel, I’ve got an analog backup button still on the stick so I can keep using the thing. I’ve managed to get over my hatred of the fruity buttons. I would just buy 4 Sanwas to replace them with, move the 4 black Kuro buttons to my “active” buttons (primarily a Marvel player right now, so LMHS [unless I find out I hate the kuros, in which case I’d move the 4 kuros to my inactive buttons]), and use the fruity Kuros as little booster feet to sit my X360 on.

P.S. (And this time I am actually tooting my own horn) -> I bet Hori never considered using that second door as a location for analog start/select buttons. But ya know… if they had implemented such a simple thing (that more than likely would have had its cost of implementation refunded if it got all of an extra 5 people to buy the stick, might I add)… I never would have bothered “ranting” so vehemently about the touch panel replacement issue. I would also already own the stick, as would several other people I’ve talked to about it that have the same concern.

Anywho, definitely looking forward to seeing what the modders are able to do with this stick.

i was so interested by this stick and it’s new technology but if you break a button you need to buy a new stick for 200$? without me then … you were so close to do something great Hori … i’ll stay with sanway parts…

If you broke a button and it was outside of warranty, you could still replace it with any other button, even “sanway”.

Hi men, i wish to know about 2 things cuz im a noob in this, im very interested in this arcade stick so i have 2 question:

  1. Can i put a octagonal restrictor sanwa or another octagonal restrictor?
  2. Can i put a spark optical micro?

For the last question im very interested too cuz i read in another forum here is coming a new version so i really to know if i can put the old version o newer.

PD: if i sounds rare whit my english is because is not my first language, i try

Not now…

This controller is a Hori Store exclusive.

Yep, you’ve gotta get it straight from Hori.
Don’t worry – it’ll show up on Amazon.com as soon as the scalpers can make some real money off of it but that would probably be months from now…a

its sad, i had to cancel last time i ordered through hori, the shipping to another address thing fucks us military people over

So you are going to be able to produce a solution soon that will allow most of us who are not fearful of soldering to dual mod the FE stick? If so, do you recommend that we purchase a 360 or PS3 version to do the mod on?

Anytime you have a choice and you plan on doing a dual mod you should always pick the xbox 360 format unless you really want all same color Hori colored buttons…either way I guarantee you could pick up 4 black in the trading outlet, there’s always someone who wants clear buttons no matter if Jesus Christ Superstar recommended Hori’s new button line

Sanway, it’s like a grocery store for arcade parts!

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured. I own both consoles and play on both so it’s not a big deal which I buy but I’m currently using my PS3 more often and I just hate the fact that I would need to get 4 buttons to replace the awful MS enforced ones. However, since it looks like you can simply replace the buttons with Sanwa I may just go that route since I’m mostly interested in the joystick than the buttons (which from most reviews it seems like you’d barely notice a difference unlike sanwa vs. siemitsu buttons).

I mostly just need to hear a comparison from somebody who has a lot of experience with both the JLF and a Seimitsu LS-56 or 58. As in, which joystick does the FE most feel like when playing (JLF has a squishy feel and longer throw where Siemitsu has a short throw by comparison). If any of you reading this has experience with that and can let me know I’d be greatly appreciative.

A guy on NEOGAF says that the FE Hayabusa joystick lever feels like a Seimitsu LS-32 which is weird to me.

I’ve seen the cross-section sideview of the Hayabusa but not the actual microswitch set-up of the control lever.
I had the distinct impression Hori was going for more of a JLF feel but reports are that the control lever is somewhere between the feel of a JLF and Seimitsu control lever.
The same fellow who made the commment about the LS-32 feel of the Hayabusa says he’s going to try to the Hayabusa in another joystick base against shooters; he should get back to the forum after the test…

Other than that, there hasn’t been much feedback on the “feel” of FE stock control lever which is puzzling to me…

Yeah, that’s sort of what I’ve been waiting for with reviews yet nobody seems to cover that which I find odd. But, most people simply use Sanwa and never venture into other areas so I guess it’s not unexpected that there isn’t a review yet that compares the difference between the Hayabusa and the Seimitsu line. It is odd that he’d say it’s like an LS-32 since the LS-32 is similar in feel to the JLF from reviews I’ve read (I haven’t tried that one).

LS-32 and JLF feel NOTHING alike.

They are about as different from each other as joysticks can get.

The LS-32 is different from the JLF… WAY different.

It’s easier for a beginner to pick up and do basic SF shota character (Ryu, Ken, Demitri, Morrigan) moves on a stock LS-32 than a stock JLF and I think it has less to do with spring tension since it’s not much different between the sticks… Yes, the -32 spring is a BIT stiffer but not by much.

I’ve found that the microswitch set-up helps… The gated switches make it easier to do moves with a Seimitsu square gate than the JLF’s square gate. JLF microswitches have a longer distance for hitting but even that’s only half the difference.

(The LS-40 is in respects much like the LS-32 but has a softer tension despite the fact it uses the same spring as the LS-32. The LS-40 requires a softer touch and can’t be “manhandled” as harshly as the LS-32 to get its best performance. Even then, I’d go with an LS-40 over the JLF.)

(Haven’t played with the other LS-series joysticks but the LS-56 supposedly is the stiffest with the LS-58 a bit less tense because of a softer spring otherwise they’re basically the same. The LS-33 is supposedly the most JLF-like of the Seimitsu joysticks.)

The JLF also has a greater throw distance and doesn’t recenter as fast as the -32. That throw difference makes it more difficult to do basic moves on older-style CPS-2 and SNK games IMHO. The older games are actually faster than most fighting games today and harder IMHO. You sure don’t see Turbo features on the current poly fighters, that’s for certain! (I also don’t think it was a coincidence that Japanese Neo Geo cabinets used Seimitsu LS-40’s, either.) I just wasn’t able to do dash moves in the Darkstalkers games nor could I consistently hit dragon punches in the SF Alpha series with the JLF.

Everybody talks about how much better the -32 is on shooters but it’s funny that they never mention the same qualities make it a better fighter stick for the older fighters, period! Probably because most of these same people NEVER play the older fighting games and NEVER play with anything but a JLF on the newer games.
That usually what makes a for a lot of the pro-JLF / misunderstanding of the Seimitsu hardware… Most people are dead-broke or reluctant to swap out hardware and try something else. I changed my mind on the JLF AFTER I bought an HRAP 3 SE (Seimitsu edition HRAP universal mount with LS-32-01 and PS-14-G/-D buttons) and noticed how much easier it was to execute moves in SF IV with the stick. After I installed an LS-32 in a universal joystick (MC Cthulu PCB), the differences were even more noticeable in SF Alpha/Darkstalkers/Samurai Shodown/etc.
I understand some people have played with all the stick brands and prefer JLF for the looseness and get used to the throw and (IMHO) awkward gates… I just have a hard time believing MOST of these people have ever played many CPS-2 or SNK Neo Geo games with a JLF…

Any update on a permanent dual mod for the FE yet? I know someone successfully dual modded it but it quit working after a while.

will this stick be listed at Newegg.com anytime soon?

Probably not. Hori seems to like keeping it exclusive.

newegg carries their other sticks (SC). they also carry the new SFXT Pro sticks (unfortunately not the VS though).

Yes, but Hori is keeping the fighting edge exclusive, for the forseeable future.

guess i’ll be passing then, since my fico score is no good with hori, lol
