Hopes & Dreams for Garou:MotW II

Well we all know Playmore has been making some headway, fans have been yearning for a Garou sequel for years, and latest word was that they did want to continue the storyline. So let’s say for the hell of it, the game is in the works. What would you like to see included… Characters, System, Stages, etc.

Personally I REALLY like it when games actually use endings to pull in new characters. That being said, I’d hope to see Gato’s father in the game, along with maybe the female cop from Freeman’s ending, and the infamous “Gym Buster” from Butt’s ending. I really don’t much care for reviving additional older characters, too much so and it’ll just turn into KOF. But it looks like Mr. Karate was already planned for the sequel (see this picture) so, I could see him being a mid-boss or something (Serious Mr. Karate maybe). The real question in my opinion is… who would be the boss! Should Kain return? What about Grant? I might actually like to see the bald mobster from their endings make an appearance (maybe as another grappling type character, kinda has that “Kingpin” feel to him). I could totally see him lighting up a cigar and laughing after he’s lays out his opponent.

As for the system, I think the original game was pretty damn good. Really no need to change anything or add to it. Yeah there where some hideously devistating combos (Gato / Terry / Grant), but that aside I loved the emphasis on defensive fighting. Gotta keep everything that was there to begin with for sure. Just Defending, Guard Canceling, T.O.P., etc. All the characters should keep their moves/supers too, I hated how Gato lost his Rai-Ga (the rising multi-kick move) when he made the jump to KOF.

Not really sure what I’d want as far as stages, but definitely gotta keep them animated and alive (and strictly 2D would be nice too). Need to keep the animation on taunt for sure. I loved seeing things change in the background when someone would pull out a taunt. No crazy stages though… I don’t want to be fighting on a satellite, or in front of a rocket launch, or under the ocean. Gotta keep them simple and located somewhere in or around Second South.

discuss…

They gotta give us a shitload of new characters because fact remains is all the characters almost have either appeared in a noncanon based SNK game or have some cameo of some sort so we are tired of seeing Garou style Terry and Hotaru and Gato in like EVERYTHING…

We need some variety…I think the unfortunate thing is that people have been waiting sooo long for this game its gonna be like when SF3 NG first came out, its gonna be hard to live up to the hype…

I agree with the notion of bringing in some more new faces, but all the same, I can’t help but wonder what became of some others. Like for instance, Krauser, Yamazaki, Billy, Joe, and the Jin Twins. Hell, bring back some more AoF characters too, for that matter. There’s MORE there than just the Todos, King and Mr. Big, after all!

That was one of the things I didn’t care for with the SF3 series; give us a bunch of new chars, with some of them being obvious “next-gen equivalents”, and never even elaborate on what happened to some of the characters, or why they were willing to go incognito for whatever reasons they wished. Billy Kane, I can imagine settling down in the English countryside with his sis (a la what basically happened in MI). Yamazaki? Some how, I doubt an (ex-)Yakuza that’s bordering on insanity would just lie down quietly after Geese’s business collapsed. And what about Jin Chonrei, who basically was being trained up to be Tung’s successor? There’s a lot of possibilities there with the old dudes alone, such that we could have the whole “silver and gold” thing going on here. As far as Bosses are concerned…how about we bring back Krauser, more grey inter-laced with his purple mane not with-standing, revamped with a whole new bit of class added to his name? I mean, you’d think with the fact that Terry is still out there, along with his step-brother’s formidable son, that Krauser would at least take interest enough to leave his castle for a spell. He could be easily “mid-boss” material along with “Serious!” Mr. Karate.

Engine wise? I’m really hoping that they speed it up, and make it so that Offensive play can still have a place in this game, Garou was just too defensive minded for my liking, when I thought RB2 pretty much had an ideal balance for gameplay. That said, bringing back the “line” system (Real Bout 2 style) would be fine, in my opinion. It’ll make it so those who rely so much on Just Defending may still have to watch their back.

But in any case, if there is any hope for a new Garou, I hope it comes out when it’s ready to come out. It’s been so long since we went back to the classic “Story of Southtown”-verse of the SNK franchise, where all we had to worry about was megalomaniacs trying to claim the underworld, instead of random, ancient spirits or hidden organizations cloning people. :wgrin:

I believe this deserves the “lol wishlist thread” tag. Let’s see how long THIS one stays alive.

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few months, SNK Playmore had already mentioned and announced that they were making a Garou MOW sequel using high resolution animation. But I think with the recent Type X2 games (KOFXII, SamSpiSen, KOFMI:Alternative) they are planning on pushing first and not including all the DS and Cell phone games they have been releasing lately, I think MOW2 won’t be out for awhile.

Make Geese’s resurrected/immortal/undead status canon.

Having Grant and Kain as normal characters would be great so people would stop bitching about them being boses.

A Tag Team style could be interesting for the storymode, vs could be 1 on 1 and Tag … I mean Kain/Rock as a team or the Kim brothers and Terry/either Andy (damn I want him in the game), Joe, Tizoc or someone else of his friends around the globe. Ryo as a midboss would own, I agree …

Well, it will be made by SNKP so I can’t get 6 Buttons, which is sad but I can live with that somehow.

Anyway, more returning and new chars would be nice, same for new great backgrounds. Garou was one of the last games with really good BG’s, a little eyecandy never hurts.

Just Defense should be a bit altered, as I don’t like it how it is in Garou: MOTW and Feint moves should be more usefull for every char. Rock for example had nearly no use for them, while guys like Terry had to much … A few additions to the movesets are of course welcome by me, so is other minor stuff.

QFT.

What else could you ask for, everything else is just extra, without this the game will never be complete.

What don’t you like about it?

Besides having more characters (new or old) I wouldn’t mind adding some more options in the TOP mode, like a counter or sidestep.

I think we could use the return of Mr Karate Ryo, as well as Andy and/or Mai. Throw in a stick fighter for good measure, too.

A solid counter might be nice. I know that each character’s special T.O.P. move could be used as an instant Guard Cancel on a successful Just Defend, but not all the T.O.P. moves actually countered well (aka Rock’s Overhead Kick).

I wouldn’t think a side-step would be necessary given all you can already do in the game. I’d much rather attempt a Just Defend and get a little health back, which leads into a Guard Cancel to retaliate, rather than avoid the attack all together.

I know someone mentioned the Line System earlier… I kinda liked the fact it was removed in MotW. I never much cared for it in the previous games, especially RB2, where some stages had it and others didn’t. I’d prefer a T.O.P. side-step over line switching.

I just want Tizoc.

Well sir… Hmm… they are bosses. Also… what people? No one plays this game.

So what’s this all about? Plus I see plenty of people playing this game everytime I jump into GodWeapon.

Well sir… real people don’t play online. If I can’t smoke a blunt with you and taunt your silly ass after I beat you down… well… it simply isn’t street fighter to me.

This is of course personal opinion. I played online once, bah. It’s like settling for a handjob when she won’t give you the real thing.

oh I get it now…

Let me break down for you. There isn’t a scene for SNK in North America. If you want to continue the Capcom/SNK feud that died when arcades died, go ahead.

Fuck, it’s not bad enough that there isn’t a fighting game scene anymore but I still have to deal with stupid shit that should have ended years ago.

Edit: If that was about the " silly ass " thing. I always say that to people I play street fighter at.

I don’t know how many people will agree with this, but Rock should be the final boss of the game. For me at least, someone who is the son of the series’ main villain and trained by the series’ main hero should end up being the most powerful character. This is of course dependent on how many years pass between the two games, but my claim still stands that Rock eventually should be the strongest canon character.

To show Rock’s power I would give him a triple - repuuken super (think Yoshitora’s 7th sword special). But that might be a bit excessive.
