Hooking EVERYTHING up to a modern HDTV - A Guide (Update for the Framemeister coming soon!)

So, I was writing this out and how the PS2 can go into the scaler but how does the audio work?

For the other things the sound comes from the sync strike (and you can get a cheap RCA audio to AUX thingy depending on the TV/preference) but for PS2… where does the sound go? Because now there’s more audio inputs than video (we’re using one VGA port on the back of the TV and white and red/3.5 mm) The PS2 audio almost seems like the odd man out.

Put a lot of new work into it, I still need links for some items and some modders.

Use a splitter, or an audio switch, or have all the audio pipe into a receiver so each one is on its own input. For the PS2, use the Toslink output.

Easiest and cheapest way to do it:
Splitter into 3.5mm audio input on TV
3.5mm to RCA cable (x2) - one from TV to Sync Strike and the other from TV to PS2 audio
Get a coupler for the PS2 audio cables, or find a longer version of this cable.

Pretty simple. So long as you don’t have the PS2 and whatever is getting pumped into the Sync Strike at the same time, you’ll be fine.

So I’m putting this new piece in on the back of the TV and by doing so am unable to to have my PS2 on while doing anything else using the port?

Just clarifying, better to ask twice then find out later you missed something.

This thread is going to end up stirring me up more than 8 button. I don’t know which is worse - that we’re ripping on SDTVs or that we’re using Dragon Ball Z to do so.

Look, here is a picture of a NES on an HDTV. Therefore this is what all HDTVs look like.

Dude… :wtf:

I say don’t have them both on at the same time because it will mix both audio signals together. You’re taking two signals and putting them into one jack, therefore, if you’re playing Battletoads vs Double Dragon on your Genesis and Tekken 2 on your PS2, you’re going to be hearing the mix of both. The effect of this could either be awful, or the most awesome thing ever.

I got it! the audio cables from the PS2 need to somehow be made into 3.5 mm AUX cables and that one is much too short… gotta find a longer one! But other than that this is going great!

Miscommunicated there, doing 3 things at once you see, I will put a warning for that, is there any danger to any of the stuff or is it just a bad/awesome sound?

There have been some reports of Robocop riding a unicorn jumping out of your speakers, but that’s the rare case. Most common problem is it makes your ears bleed uncontrollably.
But hey: those retro consoles looks great!

I have a feeling this thread is going to end in flames…

Here is a magical adapter for RCA to stereo. I recently picked one up to use with PC speakers.

That… is awesome. With that all you’d need to do is get a long AUX cable and those are a dime a dozen!

Thanks Kyle!

DOUBLE POST!!

Major updates! I’m almost done! Just need a few more links! I’m hype.

I know this would be a triple post but I just found this thread on Google while looking for a good SCART switcher.

snes2 , HiSaturn, Turbographx16 and JVC/Sega Wondermega are also not rgb out of the box
you may want to add those to trouble systems as you call it they all can be modded for RGB or S-video in the case of snes2

eBay is littered with Gonbes scalers, but if you want to put up an actual store link then we might as well give the business to a member of the community:

I play my Saturn through SCART -> Component converter. Picture quality is great.

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming XRGB-mini for my older stuff

I have this solution in place. Thanks though.

Got this coming in the mail tomorrow. Too bad the cables came from a different seller. I ordered both the same day. The cable lady has a graphic saying that orders ship within 24 hours. Too bad it took her four days. I wouldn’t be normally be annoyed by this. It’s just that it’s all over the auction.
