no damn
a scaler doubles the lines do the math 240 classic system lines doubled is 480 it also takes the normal 15htz from older systems and makes it 30htz which is needed for most vga’s monitors today
basic scalers have nothing to do with improving the picture its just takes the line of data and mirrors it
a basic scaler is a line doabler
Scart is just a cable that has seperates lines for red green blue and it has composite sync
a scaler needs red blue green and a sync some syncs need to be cleaned for certain systems
I dont even use a scart cable personalty I make my own cable
Scart cables is old technology from the 1970’s
the sync strike cleans the composite sync from the scart cable that is needed for certain systems to use a scaler
As for SCART goes… Ya got me. But I understand it now! Everything works in tandem for one beautiful wire infused… Thing.
This is great! I gotta find the right SCART splitter. But I can finally write a large part of the retro section. Look forward to it either later tonight or some time tomorrow. Got school. Paper to write. Blah.
I have my launch xbox 360 hooked up with component, and it’s hooked up in 1080p(my TV displays it as a progressive signal, not interlaced) and there is a setting for such.
However, the component feed will not look as nice as a proper hdmi feed due to one being analog and the other digital, although 1080p can be achieved nonetheless. In this instance, it probably would be wiser to buy a VGA cable, but component should suffice.
yeah the OP needs some work
The title could use some work something along the way as getting the best image from your LCD/plasma you could also mention projection
The first thread also has a lot fluff/side talk you should save opinions for the thread body
some links would be a good idea there is a lot of info on the interwebs that can explain it a lot better
component doesn’t suck nothing is really going to give you a better picture
you should start the OP off with talking about what options are available to best suit the type of display they are using a lot of people here play through a monitor so their only options are hdmi dvi and vga you should have more than enough info to explain the scaler section between this thread and the slg-t thread. In reality you should purchase a scaler so you know what your talking about and not talking out of your ass or link that section to another forum or somewhere else
what? "for people who only have enough room for their main TV " what does that have to do with anything?
who in the world is going to just hook something up without explination? People want to know more details than that
It means: they are just a regular person with one TV in the room and their 360 hooked in with a closet full of old stuff they think they can no longer use.
The explanation is simple: it does the job in the best possible way for the least amount of money. Not everyone MUST know what’s going on inside. I know if enough guides told me to buy cable X I wouldn’t give 2 shits how it did it I would just care that it did it. How will people believe me? I’ll have it done myself as soon as I get all the facts.
Basically the idea is to do all the work for the reader.
Well I played through Sonic 3 on my 47 inch LG and it was pretty solid lag-wise(the picture was horrid, everything was all washed out and junk). The only real issue is if you plan on using the setup for serious competition (not likely) and maybe you oughta tale those nostalgia glasses off because by modern standards none of these systems look all that amazing.
And yes, I am fully aware I can just get a CRT if not for that small issue of most people only have room for 1 gaming TV.
How small is your place if you can only have room for one HDTV that all your systems are relegated to play on?
Do yourself a favor and purchase a CRT tv smaller than 20" from Goodwill and put it in your game room; they’re 20 dollars. You’ll save yourself the money by not having to turn on a rectangular monster everytime you want to fire up the oldies.
I’m not going to sit here and justify the idea. Bottom line is some people don’t have space for more than one TV and CHANCES are that TV is one of the many virtually lagless HDTVs.
LD450. It’s sub 1 frame. And also has nothing to do with the thread. Unless you have a legitimate question or something to add, stop nitpicking. You have a CRT? Great! I’m jealous! But its not feasible for me where I’m at and I’m sure I’m not alone on that.
I put in my order yesterday for a scart to component converter along with cables for my Genesis and SNES. Set me back $88. Fortunately I have a nice monster CRT it’s intended for. The only thing LCD in my house are my PC monitors.
Saying that older games aren’t as good looking just makes you come off as a troll. You need to get those systems off of composite. If I can tell the difference on a CRT I’m sure they’re ugly as hell on an HDTV.
If/when I ever get an HDTV I picture myself walking in there with my Genesis in hand. I just don’t see the need. Goodwill carries big mama CRTs for $50 with component inputs.
The spirit of this thread is awesome. As a guy who has a very vast collection of old consoles, I’ve done a lot of testing over the years on this very topic. Don’t be so quick to gloss over this solution because you haven’t quite gotten it yet; it’s the best bang for the buck you’re going to get for getting pre HD era systems on your HDTV.
Also: the RGB mod for the N64 is actually not too bad. The biggest caveat to the entire thing is that not every N64 model is capable of it.
And for what it’s worth: I still have yet to find any display that will made my CDi collection look good. Of course, that was the case when it was new as well.
This gets my designer/dev spider senses tingling:
This would be a cool little project… some logistics things to consider, but it would be pretty swell. Tucking that one in my back pocket…
Loving the responses! I’m gonna go make some edits and if you’re wondering why I decided to start a thing like this is because I know at least… 6-7 people that only have one gaming TV and they either have it all looking like ass.
ALSO: Not really thread related and this is the last I want to hear on the issue (as I said it’s not another HDTV lag thread) but 3-4 frames on a 47 inch TV is NOT BAD AT ALL. Especially considering the possibility that the scaling method may actually reduce the lag by a fraction.
