Hooking EVERYTHING up to a modern HDTV - A Guide (Update for the Framemeister coming soon!)

The original plan for the audio was just to have the VGA splitter I linked (which switches all of both the VGA and AUX) go between the 2 devices (dependant upon what you had) and in an effort to make it easy to use the PS2 and Stnc strike audio were to be on one splitter and I was told everything would be fine so long as both werent on at the same time.

EDIT: After more carefully reading what you guys said this can still go fine so long as the headphone jack splitter is swapped out for a switch. Blah. Gotta change 2 things. Still, if it works.

3.5 splitters are designed to split out audio not audio going in like two people sharing an ipod. The line either needs to be cut from one of the devices either by on/off switch or physically unplugged

Craaaaaaaapppppppp!!! I need ideas now. Thank you by the way.

Ironically I got woken up at like 7 and when I thought I’d check SRK who posts last? Rooster. God is a funny guy.

Funny stuff
This could work http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-to-2-3-5mm-Splitter-Stereo-Audio-Cable-Cord-Switch-Black-/320780896243?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab00807f3#ht_4620wt_1009

or this even better

or

I thought so, I can’t risk more money for the sake of testing, we’re hitting the end of weekend job paycheck. I was gonna order it but then the description and the picture threw me off.

Edit: you posted while I was typing. The 2nd link looks promising and the 3rd link looks VERY interesting. I wonder if it can act as the RCA to AUX adapter too?

you said you had a composite selector right just use that till whenever you may need some rca to 3.5 jacks or cords though radio shack has them

Simply put? It’s huge. And I was so happy to be rid of it. I only need something simple for 2 stereo jack inputs. (f-ing PS2!!) The VGA switch is supposed to swap between the SS-Scaler combo and the Dreamcast. The ISSUE here is that PS2 goes through the same video as the combo but still needs it own audio port.

Edit: got my SCART cables in the mail. Why does it seem like the SEGA Saturn one and the Genesis one are the same?

sms, genesis, saturn all used din plugs of various sizes for their av port

Aha. I just ordered a Saturn a little while ago (in the mail) so I didn’t know what it looked like.

On another note: audio thing is killing me.

Get a smaller one if yours is too big. I posted a link to an audio only one above but its more expensive than the ones that includes composite port as well
they have some that are about the size of your palm for around $5-6 on ebay

Yeah, I think I’ll just order the 5-6 dollar switch someone linked earlier.

Thanks.

Edit: just gonna look for the cheapest switch. The one I thought was 5 bucks is a 20 dollar one linked by zapf

Edit 2: So guess what? The one you posted with the RCA and steroids jacks seems like the best option. Gonna hunt for something similar for a little cheaper.

Edit 3: The more I look and the more I think about it you’re right. Just use my composite switch, it even automatically switches to the latest device to turn on. Still, if someone finds some small piece that does the same thing, that’d be awesome. Also, reminder to me: update first post with this information.

I’m still looking into a cheaper/smaller solution to the audio thingy but something cool happened today! Scaler came in the mail, needless to say I’m scared. There’s wire and these bits of white plastic, screws and there’s nothing protecting the board. Ahhhhh!!!

Did you not realize from the picture that it would be bare.

Half expected that. Wasn’t sure if it was just showing off the insides, that’s far from the issue, what the hell do I do with it? The manual tells me but that part is in Chinese, the English part only tells me what it does.

what do you need a pretty box? its fine being open I built a plexi box for mine just stick it to a piece of cardboard and you will be fine. those white things are pods to adjust red green and blue

I’d like it, I ordered the sun strike with an enclosure but I was gonna do cardboard if it came like this. What do I do with the wire? The plastic white thingies adjust red green and blue? What do u do with them to give me that ability? What do I do with the wire? There are 2 sets of wires one with a small plastic bit at the end that plugs into the board and one has a larger bit that plugs into the board.

Also: chocolate covered Macedamia nuts came in the box and while delicious come off as pointless. Was I supposed to eat them?

Those enclosures are not complete enclosures they are just a plexi top and bottom open sides and they are over priced
measure it go to lowes and get a plexi cut to those detentions go to radio shack pick up some pcb stand-offs $1 drill 4 holes in the plexi attach
put the wire in the closet
there called pods and yes

Ok so right now covering the scaler isn’t as essential as say… Getting it to work or figuring out where the loose wires are supposed to go. I already ordered the SS so that ship has sailed. I’ll take the scaler to Lowe’s but where does all the wire go? What are the screws for?

put them in the closet drawer whatever not needed for you and what your doing its for hard wiring
No it does not need a box
the only thing you need for the board is the board and a ac powder adapter 5v-12v not sure if you ordered one if not look around the house for a old ac adapter from a router, cell phone I found two or three just lying around
I did not have any screws dont worry about it
don’t bring the board to lowes just measure it
