Elena has got some…ummm… AMAzING combos YUAH
I think anyone who’s played a decent Makoto understands why command throws are horrifying. I mean she’s the main offender but yeah. Nothing quite like deciding not to jump that one time and getting grabbed into combosuperstundeath.
idk why I am replying to this…
I’d say it makes perfect sense why at the mid/lower levels of play chun is or atleast seen as broken.
assuming both players press a button chuns button is going to win.
Her combo’s and hit confirms are easy mode and pretty much universal. You generally do not have to worry about distance or whether their opponent is crouching to choose the appropriate combo for the given situation.
Her most used pokes are hard(er) to whiff punish then some other characters and generally safe on block.
Also her cl rh and back fp trading/beating shoryu’s and her far kara throw having 360 type range.
I would also like to say this… what I have found most interesting in these posts concerning the people complaining about Chun is what you are not complaining about.
Hit confirms? Her hit confirms come in the form of the KO at the end of the round.
mami rise from the grave.
one thing thats kinda stupid is how at low to mid level play people get mad because of how difficult the execution of a characters combos are.
for example:
ken is easy! low forward super is so simple! fuck him!
yes it is easy and simple but imo this mindset doesnt matter at high level play. peoples complaints about how difficult combos are stupid. nothing in 3s is really that difficult execution wise. (im talking basics, not the shit like kara hp loop/true kara demon)
even someone like urien who is very execution heavy is easy if you just practice. If you asked rx “are uriens combos difficult?” he would say no. im sure tominaga would say the double fukiage is easy too.
anyone that has decent execution should be able to do everything in training mode with a little practice. Then being able to hit it 100% just comes with time.
i hope i made my point… dont know if i did, cuz its kinda hard to explain.
No you did.
Execution is not the barrier in 3S. Not at all. There’s nothing specifically difficult to do as far as inputs. Hit confirms take practice, some combos (like Uriens as you mentioned) take practice. Mostly it comes down to decisions, having your bases covered and reactions though. The choice to do x move instead of y and to be ready in the case that a. it hits, b. its blocked or c. its parried. That’s what makes the biggest difference in player skill I feel. That and overall experience/knowledge of the game and how it ‘feels’.
The better players are always prepared to go whatever way the fight is taking them at each point. They’re not expecting it to work, they’re just ready if it does and ready if it doesn’t. 3S is pretty impressive in that it allows you to actually do this. You can commit to things but there’s a lot of gray area at each step. The great players I think understand that gray area incredibly well and are conditioned through experience and practice to take advantage of 3S’ somewhat ‘fuzzy’ nature.
online players commit 100% without looking or thinking. thats part of how they roll. that aspect of 3s doesn’t exist to them.
its kinda funny, people complaining chun was so easy is what inspired me to learn to execute for the entire cast, including all the hard stuff.
true kara demons, tachi gigas, jab mgb x 3 combos, kara uppercuts, TTH, midscreen UBs, keeper jin, true kara palms, ba blah blah blah
none of it is THAT hard and all of it is optional. if this was marvel you’d have to do this entire list every match and if you miss you die
i think i was like insecure that maybe my character was somehow so much easier and they knew something i didn’t. but it turns out i knew something i didn’t, they were moronic shit eating scrubs and couldn’t execute for their own fucking character or play the game with any amount of intelligence and just whined because they lost.
btw something the online generation won’t ever understand is that coming up as a chun player in a thriving arcade scene was probably the most difficult thing to do. no one roots for you, your wins AND losses people act like assholes. you need a pretty good constitution and nerve to do it. NO ONE wants to share any tips with you and NO ONE will come up to you after and go “good shit you played well”. not ever. and that is just life, if you win you were cheap if you lose you suck. that’s all you hear. so your internal compass needs to be strong to level up in that. needless to say i stand by what has been said so many times before.
NEW PLAYERS, THE NEW GENERATION ARE SOFT 100%.
i have this theory that the loud mouthed low tier players are just trying to cover their asses for when they fail. how bout you put your shit on the line if you believe what you say and pick a top tier. or hide in excuse world land forever
ive met quite a few random people who this describes exactly lol
i agree with this, chun li is a slut.
Yep. There are definitely quite a few people who choose to play a character with overall harder matchups just so when they lose they can blow it off and if they win it’s a big deal. Mental easy-mode.
I agree with this (HEAVILY) but the 3S community that existed pre the influx of new players has alot to do with this also. The 3S communtiy is very “noob unfriendly” so to speak. Then again i can admit I say this from my experience as a EC strike player.Cant speak for the WC especially when you see how far ahead of us skill wise they are and were when 3S was the most poular game. Obviously they had the best environment for new players in terms of the people playing and their arcades
EC players complained the most about Chun, do waaaayyyy to much japanese player worship and watch more japanese match vids then actually playing together and learning together. It’s much different now though.Hopefully it will stay that way and grow even more when OE drops
back in the day, you would get flamed to death and neg repped to hell if you even slightly compared online to offline play.
now you got all these people who have zero offline experience. theyve never been humbled and think they are decent players. theyve never played offline and you can tell easily by their playstyle and even to an extent their posts on srk lol. they have no respect.
these people think their opinion matters and pollute the forums and youtube with garbage.
also the wc 3s scene used to be notorious for mean players. i miss those days lol
It just seems like a lot of people lack humility. Especially online. If you’re really dominating someone they don’t want to hear your advice 9/10 times. They’d rather complain about cheap moves/characters, etc. until they feel better about themselves. They can’t just sit down, listen from people who are obviously better and work on improving themselves with that input/guidance in mind.
I try to only play people I really have to work at to beat or people I know are better. I always thank the players who I know are better for taking the time to play a few sets because it’s a a huge help to getting better.
There are a lot of brats out there who just don’t want to hear it though.
^^ thats because everyone has egos. nobody wants to hear about areas to improve unless theyre serious on improving.
and the majority are just there to play around. its online. its free and you have infinite amount of plays. theres no mindgames.
mean but not bullies. The higher ups were always there to extend a helping hand to us scrubs, even during matches I remember someone yelling over the h2h “Stop parrying!”

This is tangential to the thread but we’re already on a tangent.
If you’re newer to the game or even not new but just haven’t been able to get better due to lack of competition or playing the same 3 people over and over: Find someone considerably better than you over GGPO. Make sure they’re close by, if your ping is like 60 and under the game plays quite well and there’s a lot less bullshit. Make friends and if they’re cool they’ll play you enough to help you learn what not to do just by being punished constantly.
Playing a limited pool of people trains you to think some things work which don’t and vice versa. Find someone better than you and if they have a desire to grow the community they’ll likely take the time to beat the shit out of you mercilessly. No GGPO is not the same as in person but it is not worthless either, not by a long shot.
Find someone better and suck it up. You’ll learn exponentially if you can get someone to play with that knows their shit. I’ll be honest I don’t have much patience for people worse than myself because I’m already not a good player. If I play someone worse it isn’t helping me and I’m not necessarily helping them too much either. I still give advice and encouragement though. Just not much because I’m not at the point where I can confidently say I truly understand.
We all enjoy this game if we continue to play it year in year out. We all want to be better and play better opponents. The only way to do that is to be humble and generous.
you guys have the hardest time staying on topic, lmao…
It’s the 3rd Strike forum. Mixups are to be expected.
