OK here’s a vid of me in the very final match of a 3v3 team battle. Needless to say I won, but I’d love some tips from you guys. I realise I did some really stupid things and was immensely lucky not to get an ultra in the face, normally that Chun player would have gotten them out but he didn’t seem on top of his game. Also I was really nervous, the two guys on my team are immense players and they both got knocked out, and with that and the pressure of a prize etc, I was bricking it.
Critique away! Its kind of short but its the only match of mine anyone filmed.

I thought you did well. The only thing is first dont headbutt when chun li has ultra. You got away with doing it a few times. When I play chun I try topush her into the corner. If you watch my first video that i posted earlier i fought a chun and pushed her in the corner. then i tried using jumping fierce to anti air her and use standing roundhouse as a poke. good job though.

Thanks. Yeah I know how stupid I was to constantly do headbutt when Chun had her ultra. I know not to do it but I was really nervous and I just fell into a bad habit. I think the only reason I didn’t get ultra’ed is because the Chun player doesn’t know headbutt is punishable with ultra on block, they just don’t know the match up because I’m the only Honda main in the whole area it seems and I’ve played him maybe 2 or 3 times total. Luckily I had a teammate who kind of kept me grounded by telling me to just sit on the leads I got and let her come to me.
I wish I had video of me in groups and final 16 to look back on, but oh well.

I just checked out your Chun vid, nice play! The jumping med kick, EX HHS , ochio was a beast of a combo. On the same vid against Abel, at about 2:09, is the first move standing jab or close standing strong punch? Looks like the first hit of close standing strong. What’s the timing on getting that into hands, do you just mash as soon as the first hit of the strong comes out? I’d love to work that into my game.

MrSNK I hate to say it but that zangief was playing quite poorly. How many times did he walk into j.HP to HHS without learning the lesson? I like the combo where you linked 2 HHS though.

Is it possible to link more than 2 HHS together with c.lp in between? Probably not but seeing 2 in a combo is enough of a surprise

Remember jumping MP beats chun-li crouching fierce or at least trades with it. When they go into fireball + trip mode, jump over the fireball and try busting out a mp (the vertical chop thingy) you can catch them cr.RH-ing. At the end of some of the matches you were neutral jumping over FB when you could have jumped in.

Come to think of it, Does chun-li have anything to do when you jump in over a fireball other than trip antiair?

that was just a standing jab. when i do jab into hundred hand slaps i do it by hitting jab strong fierce jab fierce. you basically roll your fingers across the punches and roll them again without hitting strong. you got to do it fast though. by the time the jab animation ends you should be finished with your piano. if you play on pad then I’m not sure if there is a good way to do it. if you mash punches it can first be inconsistent and second you can accidentally hit more punch buttons and keep the hand slaps going longer than you wanted. It really took me some time to get used to it and i still don’t have it down perfectly. watch this video at around 19 seconds and 34 seconds. just ignore the medium kick he presses and watch how he pianos. just make sure you don’t hit the two buttons at the end like he does because you will get an ex hand slap. that’s how i do it. there are other ways as well. hope that helps.

One general thing that I noticed while watching these videos is that the players rarely use FA except when they FADC. Occasionally, they will use the FA against projectiles, but other than that, they just do not use it. Does anyone happen to know why?

Also, Pieguy, the second video link actually takes you to Fuudo (Ryu) vs Shiro (Abel) instead of the the Namameso vs Shiro match.

Here is a match from the National Street Fighter IV Tournament that features Mike Ross vs Antwan Ortiz (Balrog).

I just fought Antwan today. He played Fei Long for the first two matches and we went 1-1. Then he switched to Balrog. In round 1 I did c.LP xx HP HHS, HK (which would have killed him) but I mistimed the HK and ate an Ultra. In round 2 I won with about 75% health and round 3 it was down to the wire and we traded hits and I lost. He’s really good with Balrog and has some nasty setups. He won the tournament today, of course.

It sucks but at the highest levels of play, games are won off of who makes the mistakes. You block wrong, you whiff too much, you fail to tech, it’s all mistakes that cost you :(.

My big weakness as a player in general is my execution during the end of the match with myself and my opponent low on life. I have been trying to work on it through practice and experimenting with different button configurations.

I will also be attending Animazement this weekend, and I will be definately participating in the SFIV tournament that they will be having. I am going to try to record some of matches there (when I can actually find the cables to my camcorder). Hopefully, my parts for my stick will arrive before then.
