Yes. Matches vs Gief, Dic, Blanka, Boxer, and Claw feature long stretches of staring into each others eyes because both characters can easily punish the others offense.
hehe, that makes me think of this hilarious match I had the other day against Cammy. Round one, I do my standard turtling, and punishing with jab>f. Headbutt. Cammy is clearly frustrated with my turtlishness and round two she hangs back crouching, and we stare into each others eyes like you said for a really long time. I throw out a random jab, she throws a random jab. I do it again, and she does it again. I try a medium punch, and she throws a medium punch. Medium kick, medium kick. She’s obviously committed to this game, so I throw a crouching Fierce punch and then immediately go into f. headbutt, and wah-lah, Cammy gets slammed with a full screen headbutt because she’s still in hte middle of her crouching fierce. It was glorious.

In all honesty that was a prime example of a Honda with HHS and a Honda w/o HHS.
One had meter and chip and the other well… had hop Oicho.

Yeah, he’s fishing for counter-hits. They do like 200 damage so it seems worth it.

He’s new to the game so I got to goof off a lot and try different things.
Also from this practice clan thing going on I’m able to practice Cr.MK xx hands a lot more and am getting comfortable with it.
i’m surprised it’s taking so long for everyone to jump on the cr.mk xx hands.
it’s actually much easier than cr.lp xx hands because you can do it so much slower.
the fact that it does 40 more damage and moves you closer to the opponent than cr.lp for more hits of fp hands should have sealed this deal a long time ago.
what is it that makes it hard for people? it’s the same input as cr.lp xx hands you just push mk when you push lp.
somewhat related side story:
way back when sf4 first came out for console, i was playing with Ken I (sextaro) and he decided to screw around with honda. he asked me what the most damaging move to hands was. i said “i think it’s standing strong but we should test it”, 5 minutes later we realize that it’s cr.mk and the next day he was busting that shit out like easy. it took me another week to learn it.
Ken I doesn’t even play honda, but seriously his honda was crazy good like 5 months ago.
also, combofiend apparently has a beastly honda as well.
Range and speed. 4 vs 7 is night and day and getting up in there face for c.mk is difficult. It’s pretty easy to get thrown out of c.lp, but it’s REALLY easy to get thrown out of c.mk.
if you need the extra speed or range for punish or poke obviously do lp.
but say in a combo outside of early j.mp or early j.mk, why would you ever use lp?
there are tons of places people could be punishing with cr.mk xx hands (like whiffed srk) but everyone uses cr.lp xx hands.
i’m not saying cr.mk hands should replace cr.lp hands.
but they have different uses and cr.mk is just way better for certain things. (combo on crouching honda anyone?)
use the best tool for the job.
most hondas never even went to the store to pick this tool up.
also, lets not forget that cr.mk is a low.
After certain jump-ins, it’s pretty hard to link a 7 frame normal. Like if you connect a rh or fierce, by all means go for it, but after strong and forward, especially on cross-up, I have a hard enough time as is linking a jab or short, both crouching of course.
I usually punish with oicho on whiffed or blocked srk for simplicity and habit, but I can see an argument for c.mk to be used.
i use cr.lp xx hands after a jump in strong because the whole point of that move is to use it early…
but cross up mk totally depends on how you time it. unless you’re doing your mk a little early, it’s not hard to do at all. the hit stun is plenty. the block stun however is crappy and they could reversal in between.
if you’re doing it as oki, you always want to safe jump the thing anyway which means you are timing it as late as possible and it’s easy to do cr.mk after it.
either way you should be doing cr.mk or cr.lk after it since they hit low and they can’t just option select jump back / block to stop you from doing oichos after a blocked cross up mk.
