Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

Doesn’t Yun have 900 health? Idk 2 jumpin combos are supposed to do a lot, pretty sure Dudley can kill Seth or Akuma with 2 free jumps granted he has 2 meters. - also idk if this was an un-combo but it looks like c.lk gives more frame advantage? hard to tell, the link for sure looked slower than usual…possible video issue.

honda’s damage is still there, the difference is noticeable but it doesn’t seem all that bad, dhalsim/guile both got toned down so I think we’re okay, Ryu/Chun/Sagat/Rufus/Twins? are still gonna be a bitch though.

Honda can kill Seth and Akuma with two clean jumps as well, provided he has two stocks of meter. He would just have to do this combo twice: j. fierce , cr. forward xx EX HHS, cr. jab xx HHS, st. RH. That shit does nearly 500 damage in SSF4. Like I said, even though he does less damage than we’re used to, he still deals more damage than the majority of the cast.

As much as I hate nerfs for any character, the fact that Guile and Sim have been toned down really helps us out. Those were his only truly terrible match ups, everything else is manageable, just requires a bit more work. I agree with you, Honda will be ok.

Haha also you can can get a counterhit if you hit guile in his sonic boom recovery frames…pretty rare for that to happen but you can punish him for badly thrown sb’s. Apparently if you hit dhalsim’s limbs you can also get a counterhit…not too sure though. As stated earlier…standing jab could help deal with dive kick pressure and newly improved u1 will help the Ryu/chun/sagat matchups.

I was playing AE a little bit… and for some reason I did a light headbut FADC, was this possible in regular ssf4?

Really? I thought only Deejay was in a counter hit state during the recovery frames of his fireball, Guile too? That’s amazing.

Yes, you can FADC every headbutt, but only at point blank range. Full screen headbutt > FADC would be new though; if you can do that, that would be a huge buff.

Updated the first post.

yessssss, Dieminion thinks so at least

Hawaii is gonna be getting a few ae cabs soon and I’ll be able to fill you guys in on any additional changes I find as well. From what I’ve seen, we should all still be looking to find a counterpick for dhalsim and fei. Any thoughts?

Fei got buffs, Dhalsim is reletively the same, Chun is the same, Guile is worse, Rufus is worse, the shotos are about the same I believe, sagat is better. It’s impossible to find an alt that covers all the bad matchups but…

if people are already doing so well with the twins I can’t see why everyone can’t have a pocket Yun/Yang for certain matchups once the console update hits - people are already saying Yun is a counter for Dhalsim

Sagat would adequately cover those match ups, especially considering he’s closer to his vanilla self now.

When picking a character to play in ssf4ae the first thing you should ask yourself is “can my character beat dhalsim?” If the answer is NO, select a new character.

He closes the gap on a lot of those, but he’s still at a disadvantage vs. guile, chun, sim, akuma I think Rufus would do well vs. a lot of those, Cammy aswell - I imagine the twins would do good, if they’re as easy to play as people are saying people can just have pocket yun the same way I’m sure almost everyone has a pocket Boxer or Guile.

of course you can always cover bad matches with your own strengths, blah blah blah, only matches I’d recommend countering would be Dhalsim, Guile, and Chun li - everything else feels winnable so long as you’re the better player…there’s simply nothing manageable about certain matchups where they can keep you out forever and your entire strategy is hoping they’ll make multiple mistakes so you can work your game or simply going nuts and hoping you can random someone out.

Why would Sagat need to get in on anyone? :wtf: He has the best fireballs in the game. He’s closer to his vanilla incarnation in AE, so he’s certainly at an advantage vs. nerfed Guile and Chun. He goes even with Sim, but barely loses to Akuma, which is fine, that match up is very winnable with Honda. Rufus doesn’t do any better in those match ups (Sagat beats him on paper as well), so there’s no point in having a pocket Rufus.

If he proves to be solid in the long term, then I think Deejay would be a good character to have as counterpick.

honda cant go through sims fireballs???

or maybe he punished wrong with PPP instead of KKK, either way what an ass honda he couldn’t even mash a hhs all he did was hb and ass slam, making honda look just as helpless as everyone is making him sound

Also, WTF @ yun hitting after U1 and it sending you that far, it could put u in the corner in some cases and really fuck your day up

oh I was talking about Honda - my bad, my thoughts are all over the place in that post  but basically I don’t think Sagat is the best choice - I like divekicks vs. honda’s bad matchups, or maybe akuma or blanka(?)

Pocket Viper ftw!

I dunno I think Akuma or Viper are the coolest to have for Honda. If I got a good Akuma I’d have Honda as my starter, basically to minimize the potential of Akuma getting randomed out in a tournament. Akuma is a sick character with basically no bad matchups but he is a bit of a glass cannon so even someone like Tokido gets knocked out in large American tournaments. I’m not saying people are being random, I’m just saying that someone can make a string of good guesses to possibly win a match against Akuma. Honda is like the exact opposite, a Honda that can play both aggressively and defensively is an excellent litmus test for player strengths.
