Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

Thought of a very small change but how about they make say cr.hp move you forward slightly so you could edge under high tiger shots? Thoughts?

Just give me a bit, I should have a video up on how to deal with that.

Sometimes even though I hate to admit it since there is no Guard Crush meter in this game you can block jump-ins or trade standing Fierce but since Cody hits like Honda I’d rather just block most of the time.

Standing FP or a really late Ex-HB. Since LP Jab starts in 12 frames most people with “deep” Normals will simply beat it.

Is it true that you can full screen punish any tiger shot with super? A Sagat player told me so but I don’t have a stick to try it out anymore.

I wouldn’t try it from full screen Haitian, it’s just too risky and I’m pretty sure Sagat will recover. IMO it needs to be used where the Ultra can’t. Ultra (1/2 or less) Super (3/4 or Less)

For the match Vs Cody. (Hope it helps.)

You can see where I started playing stupid and jumping in. That cost me a round but I was also thinking I should just build super for the next round.

P.S. what I’ve learned from over the years of playing folks is when you place a defensive happy character you force people to respect it.

That would be interesting… could make a set up for a kara ochio…

I think I’ve got a change in mind that won’t ever happen, but would make the chun li/guile/dhalsim matchups a lot easier without giving us something potentially broken like popping fireballers for 160 off a guessed EX headbutt or jab headbutt.

Make sweep combo-able off hhs, maybe make it a 1 or 2 framer, this would open up safejump setups on fireballers with slower reversals, also maybe make sweep do like 90 damage and buff s.hk to 105? this could give you the option of, either A. take 15 more damage on characters who aren’t safe jumpable (shotos, gouken, juri, (cammy?) or B. sacrifice a few points of damage for a mixup (crossup into oicho, crossup into hhs, whatever)

Of course this won’t ever happen but damn it would be the sickest thing ever.

also, the way they’d do this would NOT be to buff frame advantage off HHS, but rather make sweep slightly faster. after all, who uses that move anyways? might as well make it at least useful

quick notes on blanka

jabxxhands->c.mkxxheadbutt works on STANDING blanka (356 damage meterless!)

also c.mk on his wakeup will beat electricity and counterhit c.mk can link into jabxxhands very easily. don’t try this when blanka has meter, EX upball will beat c.mk, as will his ultras (might be my timing, personally I wouldn’t risk it)

c.hp can beat whiffed electricity cleanly, and hits really hard :stuck_out_tongue:

he can punish headbutts on block with slide, or U2, you can punish horizontal balls with headbutts, ultra 1, or super on block.

all your anti-airs work pretty well here, with EX-headbutt being your overall best option. I have had trouble anti-airing blanka’s jump RH with lp.headbutt before but it seems like you can beat him out if you time it a bit early.

don’t jump or splash at him because upball, s.mp, c.mp and sometimes c.hp are all great anti-airs, also splashing has gotten me U2’d before so I prefer to just forget I have that move in this matchup.

if he tries to chip you out with u1 you can ultra him during the high arc part of his ultra, you can also smack him with an EX headbutt and beat him clean.

a lot of the time this matchup boils down to a turtle off, much like balrog or bison, if you have the life lead, he gets to come to you, if he has the life lead you’re going to have to go to him.

also I’ve had some luck beating the stupid hop or roll gimmicks with an ex headbutt, worst case is he jumped and you burned a meter, best case is you pop him and make him reconsider his approaches aswell as knock his life down 20%

not sure what to do during jabxxelect. strings, like everyone else you’re just going to have to block them.

overall this match seems to be 5.5honda/4.5blanka or 6honda/4blanka at best,` but you will have to work to get in on him as he has a strong set of pokes aswell as strong anti-airs.

Adon is ruining my shit recently. Any advice would be great.

So there’s a good zangief player in our local group who is frustrating as all hell to fight. He’s very good at approaching and getting right up in your face before you know it. Thanks to the tips on this page I managed to eliminate him in our monthly tournament but this matchup is far from solved for me.

How do you deal with jump in pressure when they have U2? You can’t use headbutt, U2 will grab that, that’s exactly what he has planned. NJ Fierce seems to get stuffed by gief’s jumping fierce (the long dive punch) and the standing fierce never really works for this matchup, I tend to stick with headbutts for anti air and slap any whiffed normals by staying out of his range.

It seems like a matchup where you win by countering his approaches 10 times but he wins by getting in 3 times. So frustrating.

Can you punish boxer’s straight dash punches, or TAP? I seem to just sit there and block the whole match, I don’t know what is jab punishable minus headbutt and overhead punch:(

a good gief with u2? he will empty jump which = free st fp, on your wake up… FA backdash

Crouching jab tends to stuff them and I actually got a random Ochio off a dash punch once because I was doing it to build meter and the guy threw a fullscreen dash punch… kinda crazy, and totally not something you want to try to do.

Mostly with balrog I try to stay outside of jab dash punch range because that’s the only safe one. The others can be punished, so teach the rog not to use them and punish whiffed jab dash punches with st fp or st rh. Lots of good balrog players in my area and it’s a tough matchup but not impossible. Jab Headbutt is a lifesaver for balrog’s jump ins. I’ve even jab headbutted and EX Headbutted through dash punches, but the timing is very tough because they’re so fast.

Thanks for the gief tip jewelman. I guess that matchup really is a matter of don’t let him knock you down or get close in the air. Cause if he has gotten a knockdown, has U2 ready, and empty jumps at you as you’re recovering, you really don’t have any options, because reversal headbutt means U2 in your face, block means an SPD, probably. neutral jump is U2 again. Sumo Splash might work to escape but it tends to whiff on zangief’s jump ins, and then you’re eating a combo when you land, or in the same blocking situation.

I guess the lesson is keep that mofo 1/4 screen away at all times and don’t get knocked down. That’s how I won in the tournament match, anyway.

I played against Noel Brown’s Vega and that was the first I ever had to test my patience. It was so bad that I got a headache after the match. My question is how to I fight a Vega that can out space you with c.mp?

I had him in the corner every single round but he had control the whole time. I couldn’t jump without getting hit by U2 or anti-air’d every single time. I can’t move forward without getting poked by c.mp. It was impossible to get into jab range. If he wanted to, he could easy wall jump over me or wall dive out of the corner but he decided to stay there. Also, if I were to do jab xx hands to jab xx hands, he would punish with c.mp xx ex wall dive.

Any advice would help me if I play him again at the next Guard Crush.

You have to be very surgical with your pokes and not count on flash antics to score damage.

Also keep in mind that you don’t need to really jump against Vega all that much.

Like everything honda, it’s 100x easier when you have a life lead. Vega isn’t easy though. That crouching MP sucks. Doesn’t help that honda’s dash sucks too.

Doesn’t NJ Fierce work really well against wall jumps?

I fought a really strong fei long the other day. he managed a well time crouching FP everytime i NJ FP. I realized i can’t headbutt at all when he has meter. I am forced to sit back while he pokes rekkas at me. I realized I can wait for an opportunity for a missed rekka, but when he has a life lead I have hard time getting in because of the rekkas. I can’t even jump at him, he has great AA’s. Any advice at all would help. Thanks in advance!

Yeah I hate Fei. Nearly pooped myself the first time a Fei player punished my ex headbutt.

Interesting ideas but honestly i’d be happy if honda’s s.rh knocked ppl down like it did in st. B+rh or even f+rh so id have to give up charge I would t mind.

My brother plays a mean fei long as well. Always getting those BnB’s. He always starts off his Bread and butter with a crouching light kick so try to stay low as i’m pretty sure that’s how most Fei long’s do it as well. stay on the ground because of his fire kick. (I hate that move!!) try to bait those out as well. Learn to oichi throw him if he’s close enough after the second rekka. The only way to beat my brother it seems like is to bait out a flame kick and punish. add me if you want we use the same account. i’m sure he won’t mind practicing against y
ou. Chino509 (PSN only !!)

thanks Chino. Will do! The funny thing I used to main Fei long as well, but I stopped playing for a long while. I switched to E. Honda and even though I know whats coming (from fei), I feel like I can’t do anything about it. I’ll see you online. Btw I’m from west coast if it matters.
