Honda Match-up Thread: After the war 2010 AE

Good tips Mr SNK, i have been improving in this matchup considerably. I will add a few tips from my personal experience with struggling with this matchup.

  1. All Rog’s are waiting for you to Headbutt so they can dash straight for a free counter. Hit him with Jab Headbutt (blocked) and Ex headbutt him when he comes for his “free” counter. This is best used after training Rog to do it by hitting him with a stronger version and taking a hit. You will hit a lot harder than him so its in your favour if you eat one first. Plus, they will fall for this at least twice a game usually.

  2. Boxers like to jump in with HK to beat your reveral Headbutt. Even EX. In this situation, use EX Buttslam. Just make sure its not a safe jump or you burn ex and you’re eating combo.

  3. Best tip available from the Boxer section of this thread…“Block low and watch for the overhead!”

On a different note, i am struggling with Cody and havent seen any discussion on him really. It’s just down to lack of matchup knowledge and when i come across a good one, im not prepared. There is a good one from UK lurking online called o Xavi o i think. Was totally unprepared.

HK Ruffian kick, B+mp and Criminal upper beat all of my jumpin options. Balls to him not having decent anti airs.

Ex Bingo headbutts on reaction sometimes.

I think HB’s but jab and ex can be punished with MK ruffian kick. Lots of baiting got HB’s blocked and punished.

Just wondered if anyone knows this matchup well. The Cody’s in UK are few and far between…

Vs. Balrog:

Use lp. hb instead of EX to counter jump-ins. LP beats everything, IMHO it’s better than EX in this match as AA, even if EX didn’t take meter. Save your meter for hands cancels and such. Just make sure to do it as late as humanly possible!

Abuse Balrog on wake-up. A lot of Honda’s stuff beats Rog’s headbutt.

Listen to SNK.

Sadly, it does come down to playing defensively. The down-back is strong with this one.

i dont know if this video is any good but this is a match i had a few days ago vs gootecks it may give you some tips against barlog.

i did miss some good chances to punish some of his stuff but still i did somethings right hope its any good.

my advice is to try to stay aggressive as much as you can but if the match gets to the point were barlog its just turtling try to chip him away with lp headbutt that is safe against almost every barlog move (i think just Super can punish lp headbutt) because most of the time sooner or later most barlogs tend get really desperate and start committing a lot of mistakes that you can punish.

" . . . . " Someone break that match down for me. I didn’t see any secret Oicho Set-ups.

LOL

Damn when I fought gootecks, he waited that shit out… he turtled the entire match… made it real hard for me to get in. Playing him online and in person is completely different.

Looks like this.

When Balrog gains the life, what is the best approach in getting in? The only method I came up with is to walk forward and eat his chip damage until he gets into the corner. Then I start to chip away. Is there a better way of getting in so I can avoid the dash punch?

Can EX headbutt to get to the corner faster, haha.

Carefully approach with cr.jabs while buffering hhs. Hands wont come out if the jab whiffs, but it will come out if/when you catch the dash punches. Once I work a balrog into a corner, I switch out oicho setups with standard/neutral grab to keep him against the wall.

Can anyone offer up any tips for the Sim matchup? I’ve been playing with the headbutt/yoga fire trick, but it feels really gimmicky and I don’t see myself ever using it comfortably in a match. I find I rely heavily on j.mp as my main method of approach, but it’s not a guaranteed thing… Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t want to start talking about Rog AGAIN but if someone can beat this guy, pleeeeeeeeeease upload that vid and let me see it because DAMN. I’m damn sure not the best Honda on PSN but this guy flat out seems unapproachable on God-Like levels. Again, I know I suck out loud but if anyone has beatin this guy, I’d like to see how to approach it. Peace. So i"ve been watching a lot of honda vids in the last week to see if i’ve been missing anything big in any matchups before evo. I’ve noticed 1 thing about most honda’s I’ve seen, they dont punish hard enough! Ryu whiffs a dp, and fools are punishing with f. hb (160 dmg). cr. mk xx hhs, s. hk is ~300 dmg and cr.mk xx ex hhs, cr.lp xx hss, s.hk is ~400 dmg. now next time you punish a big whiff with hb, think about all the damage you missed out on and get those hhs combos down

-cheers

I hear ya Destruc1ve, I’ve been watching a bunch of Honda players on the replay channel and they don’t punish hard enough. I personally go for the oicho if they’re in the corner and midscreen I do hands combos or forward->headbutt. Truth be told I’ve only ever seen a couple of Honda’s on the replay channel that piano hands (assuming they use hands in their gameplay at all, a whole other matter)…it’s severely underused by most of the Honda population from what I’ve seen.

So I’ve decided that I want to learn a character that isn’t total ass and Honda is the only one that appeals to me. I really like his playstyle. Any tips on getting started with him? I spent an hour or so in training and can do c.lp xx hhs > s.hk consistently (which is his BnB, yes?).

that’s what I meant to post. GDI!

Yo Hondas, played Buktooth’s Ibuki yesterday and if you guys don’t know who he is, he’s an Elf player also, anyway, he’s pretty solid on the vortexes.

Just want to throw out what I think we should do against Ibuki’s, some of us already know this but I just want to throw it out for those who don’t know

  • Ibuki with no meter = free jump ins with j.mp!! Please take advantage of that
  • Above advice leads to do NOT jump in when she has meter, ex-kazagiri is really good
  • You CAN focus absorb the kunai on wake-up and dash out of her vortex; What happens is as you dash she’ll punch you out of your dash which is way better than getting that nasty knockdown combo, BUT I hate the timing for wake-up FA
  • Keep an eye out for her overhead; Leads to potential massive hurt + knockdown
  • Ibuki is one of the characters that, when crouching, you can link another c.mk after a HHS

Random preferred combo if she is crouching after any jump in; c.mk > HHS > c.mk > HHS > FADC > Oicho = About 50% I think, she has really low health :]

Aww SNK, the Grouch sucks :frowning:

Put some Del on there if you need to teach someone a lesson. Especially about wiping their ass.
