Honda Combos

Why would you got for Jab HHS instead of linking cr.:lp: into fierce HHS? Unless I’m reading it wrong. Also it seems like linking after Ex-HHS in AE is way easier that Super or Vanilla.

ya i mean cr. jab fp hhs just thought by now everyone used fp hhs only, and O RLY? Feel free to try this combo out then, let me know if it works on the twins as well

My bad, no Honda beginner thread.

cr. lp fp.HHS > cr.lp fp.HHS is a 1 frame link?

Are there characters where this does NOT work?

Thanks to Jewelman for an amazing post. I’m seriously copy and pasting into my notebook. This is great.

Any ideas if these combos will work on Yun and Yang?

So, I can’t wait to try this out in AE. How do you think it’s different in the new version? did they change cr. jab’s properties? or is it just easier to time because of EX HHS animation has changed a bit or something?

c.LP after HP hands is like a 6 frame link, so it’s incredibly easy as long as the conditions are right (works on some standing characters, works on some crouching characters). As far as I can tell this doesn’t work on Sakura or Rose because HHS doesn’t fully connect. The 1 frame link is c.LP after EX hands.

i got to play AE a bit this weekend and as far as i can tell the combos worked just fine also honda’s damage is a minimal difference to me… makoto is a bitch though

works on standing yun idk about crouching or if you can jab hhs cr. mk hb him, and its from a crouching jab as well so you dont have to be standing its awesome damage for AE

Frame Trap/Counterhit with cr. strong

Hey guys, I just recently watched a tournament on stream last week. It was from florida, I think, and I don’t remember the name. Anyways. A honda won the tourney and I noticed something in one of his last matches.

the player, Drusef (i think that’s how you spell it), comboed cr. strong into cr. short, cr. jab, HHS. I didn’t believe it when I saw it.

so I went into training room and tried it out and it works. Counter hit cr. Strong is +5 on hit. So that means that if you throw cr. strong into your block strings (cr. short, cr. strong, cr. jab for instance) you could link cr. short or cr. jab from that counter hit (if it your opponent messes up). Basically, if your opponent is teching than you could set yourself up for a frame trap that does about 300 dmg if your opponent is large or crouching.

so yeah, I figured I’d share that with you guys.

Is this common knowledge? I’ve been playing honda for a while now and i’ve never seen anything on it, or seen it done in my experience.

Ok, thanks.

As far as the execution goes, should a single tap forward be enough to get you back in range for the 2nd cr.lp fp.HHS?

I successfully did the cr. jab hhs ex hhs jab hhs on a Rose player last night. A few of the Ex Hands missed but it was still pretty sweet to pull off that pain in the ass combo.

I didn’t know where to put this but its been bothering me for some time.

What are Honda’s option selects?
Do they have any use in real matches?

so cr. jab hhs ex hhs cr. jab hhs works on both yun and yang standing and crouching but i need to see if i can cr jab hhs cr. mk hb or ex hb while they are crouching for an easier combo but this is definitely great news in AE…

oni has decent health it seems… i’m kinda worried…

OS with honda? someone once said neutral jump fierce punch into standing RH was one…but idk

I haven’t post for a long time but on my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/TelepathicSRK?feature=mhee I have some Honda option selects. But I didn’t go into any detail on the inputs. But they are basically a HHS buffer followed by a Ex.HB or Ultra 1 input. Blocked or hit = c.lp xx HHS, on whiff equals EX.HB or Ultra 1. There are based off of meaty c.lp setups (oichio, fwd Throw) because Honda can’t get a back charge fast enough to use safe jump OS’s.

Good looking out on those combos Jewel. First useful thing that has been posted in a long while.

Felt like i should repost this one more time on the new page as well as make sure everyone knew the AE changes (damage/who it works on)

Most damaging combo

Alright, I thought it was time to get honda players outputting the biggest possible damage off of something we should all be able to do, and if not this will definitely make you want to learn how to jab hhs effortlessly.
Jab hhs rh and jab hhs hhs do the same damage(260) which is very nice for super. Now AE (jab hhs rh is 225) is coming and Sagat hits hard again so why shouldn’t we?
Jab into ex hhs jab hhs is a nice way to get some extra damage in, but you have to be certain the jab will hit or would have to land a successful jump in.

The combo I have been working on recently allows you the necessary time to make sure your meter doesn’t go to waste, as well as builds back some of what you’ve lost.
**Jab hhs ex hhs jab hhs does 330 damage(AE) **on most of the characters it works on and with practice you’ll know when to input ex hhs as your initial hhs is active. (video to come)

With a jump-in it does over 350 damage(AE) and in AE lariat from Gief seems to trade more with nj. fp so you will want to use nj. rh to beat lariat. Currently in Super nj.rh cr. mk hhs ex hhs jab hhs does 494-500 damage. This does 450 in AE
You will most likely though be hitting jab hhs so don’t shoot for jump-ins just yet.

So, you can hit the 1f link no problem? Well this is where it gets tricky/ugly so i’ll try to categorize/sort this mess out for you. Here is a compiled list that this combo works on, as well as characters that you should be licking your chops when fighting since you can do big damage to them crouching or standing.

Standing opponents: cr. jab hhs ex hhs jab hhs
Abel, Balrog, Bison, Blanka, Cammy, Chun, Cody, Deejay, Dhalsim, Gouken, Guile, Hakan, Juri, Sagat, Yang, Yun

Standing opponents: st. jab hhs ex hhs jab hhs
Adon, Dan, Dudley, Fei Long, Fuerte, Honda, Makoto, Rose, Rufus, Vega

Standing opponents: cr. mk hhs ex hhs jab hhs (special case)
Akuma, Seth

Crouching opponents: cr. jab hhs ex hhs jab hhs
Adon, Balrog, Blanka, Cody, Deejay, Dhalsim, Fei Long, Fuerte, Gen, Gouken, Guile, Guy, Hakan, Seth, Yun, Yang

Crouching opponents: cr. jab hhs cr. mk hb(no meter)
Bison, Chun, Makoto, Oni, Rufus, Viper

Crouching opponents: cr. jab hhs cr. mk ex hb(meter)
Akuma, Evil Ryu, Ibuki, Juri, Ken, Rose, Ryu, Vega

Now some of these names stand out due to the character being able to be combo’d while crouching AND standing.
These “lucky” characters even include some of Honda’s “bad” matchups.

Adon
Balrog
Bison
Blanka
Chun
Cody
Deejay
Dhalsim
Fei Long
Fuerte
Gouken
Guile
Hakan
Juri
Makoto
Rose
Vega
Yang
Yun
I didn’t say it was going to be easy but learning the timings or difference between crouching and standing links could help you deal some massive damage!

(Tip for people just getting started on this combo)

After jab hhs hold down forward as you enter your ex hhs this way…if you are to have nothing come out you will just stay in the same spot and you will essentially bait your opponent into a reversal. Good luck

Im gonna have to learn stick if i wanna start doing any of that. Cant set up my pad to do ex hands and tapping the 3 punch button after jab hhs is not consistent at all.

What about this combo Ross does quite often?
jab xx f.hands > ex.butt

I never really understood the advantage of going for it and it does seem character dependent.

thoughts?

Thats combo only works on a standing balrog, a variation also works on abel but you need to cancel the ex buttslam off a jab.

It’s an easy combo that does alot of damage, no reason not to go for it.
