Anyone else read the Jagi Gaiden manga? Pretty interesting stuff. The only thing is i hate how they “represent” his character. Only read up to issue 11 though.
Starting on the Rei gaiden now.
Watched the Kenshiro movie the other day, I enjoyed it. The animation was really nice, it was interesting seeing Kenshiro so vulnerable for most of the movie. He only exploded like, one guy, whatever. Still had more action than the Raoh movies.
could someone explain to me, is Raoh a bad guy or a good guy? he always seemed like the villain but the characters talk about him like he is some really super fella.
Have you seen all of the original 80’s series? Its a bit complicated.
Raoh starts off being a total bastard, a truly menacing baddy bent on domination with few good qualities. The complete opposite of kenshiro.
As the series progresses onward he gets featured in a slightly better light, and he reveals feelings for both brothers toki & ken, spares the sons of an old Hokuto master he killed just to test his skill, etc.
Then regains his dignity at the end during the final battle. Once he realizes he has been defeated, he gives props to kenshiro and his blessing as successor to Hokuto, goes out like a Man with “no regrets” and dies.
Afterwards during Hokuto No Ken 2, during the Shura arc with Raoh’s twin brother Kaioh, Raoh is then portrayed in a more heroic light. Revealing how many of shura’s people had hoped Raoh would return to liberate shura from tyranny, and be king after he took over the rest or something.

Now in the newer stuff, such as the Ten No Haoh series where Raoh is the star. He is portrayed more like the “Magneto” to Kenshiro’s “Professor X”.
In that, Raoh really is not THAT bad of a guy. Like kenshiro he wants to end the Chaos and suffering in the post-apocalyptic world, only his tactics to accomplish this are vastly different. Raoh is not afraid to resort to harsh methods such as killing/conquering many to ensure order in the new century.
This gets him into kind of an Anti-hero vibe.
Raoh was not the type that would kill babies for sport but he also won’t let any object, living or nonliving, stand in his way.
jagi, on the other hand. was the true embodiment of evil in the series.
i wish theyd show more post hnk2 stuff. shin hokuto no ken was alright, but itd be great if there was something more. the new ovas had good animation quality but it didnt feel as dark
I wonder what would of happened if he did kill yuria/julia and perfected the Muso tensai? Surely Ken wouldnt be around and maybe the land of Asura might have had its true saviour…

so what is the official spelling of Southers name? I have seen Souther, Souzer, Zouzer, Tsouzer, and the worst Touther and Thouzer. Souther works fine, but wasn’t it spelled Thouther in the HNK Arksys game? That is terrible, it sounds like I am trying to say his name with a tongue depressor or something.

On some figures and other official merchandise it’s spelled Souther. I’ve only ever heard it rendered as Thouther in the ps2 game, wonder if that’s just a phonetic spelling or something. >_> He’s definitely the character with the most confusing name in the series.
Just seen all 13 episode of the Raoh Ten No Haoh series, which was great for the most part.
Although my favorite was that last episode: Souther Vs Raoh finally!! :bgrin:
whats new for the HnK series? are we lined up for more “re-tellings” ? who wants something new?
I’d like to see something post Hnk2, other than Shin HnK, maybe even something involving a grown Ryu.
Also a concrete timeline due to the clusterfuck of plotholes that Hnk2 created.
