Hokuto no Ken Discussion Thread

A jagi movie just sounds like a waste of celluloid. If he was a great fighter with conniving talent I could stomach a the movie, but he doesn’t even have skill.

shotgun using retard.

A Shin movie would be more boss, I want to know his past.

Yeah this is why even though he was there with the other three, he is nearly forgotten about, and instead it is just the “3 Hokuto bothers”.

As if thats the whole point of his character, he was a disgrace to the Hokuto dojo and meant to be forgotten.

I agree about shin, as well as other Nanto characters. Give us a Rei gaiden or something, not this jagi gaiden junk.

That is amazing. torrents are always slow as all hell for me, it took about 2 weeks of 24/7 downloading to get something that was 50GBs.

Rei gaiden would be cool too, the most I saw of his schooling was when he was balancing on a pole slicing up an eagle. (to the chagrin of yuda)

I still want to see Shin gaiden a bit more, since he was Kenshiro’s freind and good guy that got consumed by an evil world.

 that’s not fair dude, he gave up on trying to stick it in her butt when he found out they were related.

HnK= The 2nd Coming of Christ.

lol.

A Shin Gaiden would be cool. I think the subtitle means Dark Hero, atleast that was what I was told. A Souther Gaiden and Rei I wouldn’t be that interested in. They are very blunt characters with little complexity.

Hell, Souther alone got more of a backstory than Rei and Shin in the series.

Just wondering, does anyone know the actual character’s ages from story to story?

Such as how old kenshiro is at the very beginning, to the end with Shin hokuto no ken?(new fist of the north star in u.s).

It might be implied in the Manga but I doubt it. Raoh, Souther and Toki have to be a lot older than Ken though based on Ken’s first encounter with Shuu.

During HnK, Ken is pretty much in his mid 20s, Raoh is prob. in his late 30s, Toki mid 30s.
Take into consideration that when they escaped from Shura, Raoh and Toki were at least 10 years older than Ken.

Discotek releasing the 1st Fist of the North Star movie

I was hoping Funimation would pick up the whole series, but baby steps. Probably the last chance for FotNS to catch on in America. I’ll definitely pick it up if it’s at a reasonable price.

Maybe you guys missed it, or you didn’t know, but there are Rei(4th book avail now IIRC) and Toki(3rd) Gaidens currently being published in Japan, which makes Jagi Gaiden the 5th in line.

As for those trying to downplay Jagi, the only point to Jagi’s existence is he was supposed to be the student that would betray them all, and would have to be killed by the successor in order to keep him from abusing his power. Toki already was busy with his own plans, Raoh didn’t think he was worth the energy to kill, and Ken was too green to finish the job when they did clash.

That ended up setting a lot of things in motion, because if he killed Jagi in their original fight, there would’ve been a huge possibility that Shin would’ve never attacked Ken(for all it’s worth, no one else near any of them would’ve had the balls to deliberately sabotage Ken and Yuria by tipping Shin off the way Jagi did). IIRC he also had a hand in Amiba showing up in Toki’s village? It’s been a while since I read that arc.

Whatever. Jagi’s purpose is to get stamped out because Ken was too weak-willed to do it the first time. As long as he was alive he’d do shit to undermine Ken out of jealousy.

Cool…I’ve been wanting to get Hokuto No ken series on DVD for a looong time.

Hopefully there will be enough sales to warrant a series re-release.

:lovin: and let me also add that Jagi was the ONLY character in the series who was evil just for the sake of being evil. A lot of his actions was driven by his hatred of Kenshiro, but he did so much shit that had nothing at all to do with it, I can’ believe people compare him to Amiba who was only pissed because Toki hit him in the face.

Jagi was purposely the black sheep of the 4 brothers, and ironically enough, he only served to strengthen Kenshiro’s reputation as a savior through all of his means to destroy it.

Also, say Shin was as unstable as you want, all the people who conspired to get Yuria or who had plans for her, Jagi was the only one who deliberately wrecked Ken’s shit in one move, and didn’t even want Yuria.

As much as i love funimation’s past dub work with stuff like DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho. Ehhh…i wouldn’t want them to do Hokuto No Ken.

Imagining hearing Goku’s voice coming from Kenshiro… shudders

Vegeta’s voice actor doing Raoh? Uh…

so a friend of mine found the hnk japanese movie deep within some anime store available to buy for a super cheap price. He then gave it to me for christmas since he already had it. I now have everything hokto and i am happy

And I am pretty sure there is an american version of the movie out already. I remember watching it dubed and making fun of how kenshiro did his etatatatatas and when rei said "I am of the fist of the southern cross, AND MY NAME IS REI!"
I was like, damn rei dont need to be all angry about it

The 1986 animated movie had a dub, the voice work was pretty good. Dialog was not very accurate though.

I wondered who’s going to be scanslating Jagi Gaiden.

As for the movie being rereleased, it’s about damn time.

I hope they don’t re-dub the 1986 movie…James Avery was too good in that, even if it was a small part.

I fucking LOVE the old dub. I think some of the changes made to the dialogue were great. For example:

punches statue “That man has a name… JAGI!”

changed to…

punches statue “Jagi always DID have a glass jaw.”
