HNL 808 GGXX: Accent Core

Here’s a suggestion for GG players in Hawaii. Obviously Zones isn’t a good spot for practice for everyone. It’s out of the way for some of us to come practice.

So here goes the suggestion.

Have a tournament.

We’ll practice and show up.

Put up some signs and advertise. You never know who you might end up attracting.

i’ll set up a tournament when kuro visits in the next month. i just need to know when he’s going to be in hawaii before i can set an official date

Concerning a tournament, can I vote that it be held between late January - mid/late Feb. And on a Saturday? Hopefully Kuro will be here. Its for several reasons:

  1. It gives everyone time to practice their main characters.
  2. It should be enough time to plan ahead. (request off from work, etc.)
  3. Zones can plan to gather equipment. (2 lag free TVs should be fine)

Also having it held on a Saturday night is the most likely time that Evil and myself will be able to attend. I always get off work at 7 PM on Sat. And Evil does not work on weekends (I think). That almost insures our attendance.

Everyone please come out and have fun!

This is extremely sudden, so sorry.

A couple of my friends are going to be returning from CMU and IIT (I think?), so a bunch of my friends are gonna be playing AC this upcoming winter break. One of them (Dunno if my friend in chicago went)went to Season’s Beatings and plays the east coast GG crew. If the tournament is around early January I would be able to bring a good number of people.

A few of them also play AH, so if you wanted to run one of those too they’d definitely show up. Same goes for SSBM, although we haven’t played that in awhile since we got more into AC.

early january sounds good then. how about January 5th, 2008? it’s a saturday.

I’m down for any Saturday. If everyone is cool with January 5th, let’s do it.

EDIT: Evil says bring it on!

Weather was kinda whack this past week, lol. What did I miss?

(reads up on the posts for an update)

A plan for a tournament in the works? Nice!
I’m down for it, whenever it may be. This will require some discussion.
What inspired this turn of events? lol. Methinks the need for more comp and an organization of the GG scene in the 808.

In a way this -could- be good to garner some ‘hype’ for GG and net some new, potential players for the scene, hopefully. If not at least there is another chance to play for the means to have comp lol.

D-Pad: As far as my Dec. trip goes, its still in the works. Possibly for next weekend or the following one. I will keep you posted.

Where is everyone? lol.

How goes the planning/scheduling for the tourney?

Honestly Kuro, everyone(myself included) has been playing 3S and CvS2 recently and hardly anyone has been touching GGXX. We haven’t had a session at Zones for a while now. Our last one was around the time that you came down.

As far as a tourney goes, I haven’t heard a single word about it yet. Who knows if we will ever have one.

No worries though. If you ever come down again, ill definitely make time to get some games in.

EDIT: ANYBODY DOWN FOR SOME CASUAL OR MONEY MATCHES?! I don’t care whether its for $1 or $20! You wanna play? Let me know and I’m in.

Dang! That is hard to believe that the last -active- session was when I came up to Oahu. lol. I notice that the other 808 threads is where the gaming action is active as of late.

I will continue to play GGXX:AC in the meantime since that is all I can do over here on the Big Isle.

Dec. trip up to Oahu isn’t looking good right now, particularly with my friends’ busy schedules which render staying over difficult this holiday season. Coming up in Jan. and onward seems to be a better possibility however. I’ll keep you posted.

Random thought: When I come up next to session, I figure the last night we session we should have like a mini-tourney or something. Something to do like singles or teams. Just an idea to throw out there. Watch it end up being a round robin of like 3~4 people using random select, lol. I’ve said too much…

On the off chance that anybody wishes to play HnK in the coming week, I’m more than willing to do so. Kind of a long shot but what the hey . . .

GGXX:AC Tournament Announcement!

Date: January 5th, 2008 (Saturday)

Time: Signups begin at 6:00pm, matches begin at 7:00pm

Place: The Zones

Fee: $10 ($3 Zones fee, the other $7 goes into jackpot)

Type: I may need suggestions for this, since I’ve never run a fighting game tournament before. 16-man Double Elimination (no teams, and will probably change based on the number of people attending), first-to-3-round matches.

1st place: 70% of pot
2nd place: 20%
3rd place: 10%

Please post any suggestions you think will improve the tournament. Again, these rules will probably change based on your guys’ opinions. I just wanted to put the date and the time up, basically. It’s about two weeks away, so practice up!

Ooh me likey. . . . Good luck everyone!

Nice! I think I should get a plane ticket to come up that weekend to play.

As for suggestions, here’s an outline of stuff that may factor into the format of the tournament and such. To be used at tournament director’s discretion.

Proposal for the GGXX:AC Tournament, Jan. 5th 2008:

Game: GGXX:AC for PlayStation 2

Controls: player choice (stick or pad)
button mapping ALLOWED, button macros BANNED

Round Format: 2/3 or 3/5 rounds, 2/3 match. Personally, I prefer a longer game versus 2/3 round games. However if there IS a lot of people playing, the 2/3 -may- seem more favorable to some. But since its double elimination, well whatever lol.

Time: 99sec rounds

Character Usage: No Gold/Shadow, EX, GG/GGX Mode Chars ALLOWED
Winner keeps same char, loser can opt to change. This part could be debated whether to allow ONLY single char for tournament rather that multi char. Discuss.

Bracket Seeding: Hopefully there is a -good- distribution of skilled players in the brackets lol. If there happens to be 16 people playing, that would be like 4 brackets of play. If anything, spread players as far as possible for bracket distribution, then by random pulls for matchups within the bracket or something like that. That or follow the EVO format model lol.

Player Responsibility: Have your own controls or a working one lol. Be in the area when you are scheduled to play otherwise DQed. Courtesy and stuff.

Prize: 70/20/10, that works fine.

Pre Matchup: Coin flip for side preference, also controller setup (buttons) prior to match as well as button testing. If anything, this is done before character selection

Matchup Playthrough: All winners matchups play through 1st then losers matches play through accordingly. Minimum of 2 setups will be needed I think. 3 would even be better: 1 main, 1 secondary, 1 backup or something to that extent.

Rule Infractions: Like when a controller malfunctions and stuff or some sort of gameplay violation occurs, what penalty could/will be assessed and given out? Discuss.

Fees: At time of sign-in, FULL payment regardless. If DQed no money back.

Time Frame: 6pm signup, 7pm tournament start. Sounds good. With an earlier startup time, there might be more time for casuals afterwards or some other event. Tournament -should- last 2~3 hrs. If anything, during the signup period, it should be -freeplay- so people can have the chance to get in some warm up matches before the tournament begins. Or not, but I think this would be beneficial to everyone participating lol.

I think that is everything that should be considered at the moment. If anything, just use this as a guideline to format the tournament, or not. The tournament outline -should- be definite prior to the event going down. If anyone has any other ideas, chime in with your ideas/opinions. Hopefully, this is the first of many tournaments for GGXX:AC lol. See you all there.

One last thing, I don’t know if this will interest much people but who would want to do a -teams- tournament on the side after the tournament or later on at a future event? All for the sake to build a team for EVO or something like that…lol.

EX, GG, GGX characters SHOULD NOT be allowed. Every singles GGXX tourney from XX to AC has not allowed them for one single reason: THEY ARE NOT IN THE ARCADE. This tourney should be no different. Would it be fair if I chose EX Order Sol and dust looped everyone? Not cool right? So I say arcade AC characters only for tourney matches. SOLUTION: D-Pad, lol don’t bring your memory card!

I also think that the tourney should be multi character. US singles tournies has always been winner keeps same character, loser can change. I know some tournies in Japan are one character limit but this aint Japan. Simple as that.

Kuro, everything else you posted is cool but I believe that almost all of us here on SRK have enough tourney experience in the past with other fighting games. So things like brackets, player responsibility, and being on time shouldn’t be a problem.

That’s all I got for now. Everyone else please post so we can discuss further and all be on the same page come tourney day.

okay! i really need a head count of how many people can make it to the tourney on the 5th. otherwise…i’m not gonna go through the trouble of buying a tv at walmart and returning it after the tournament if there are not enough people. selovare, are you there? will you and your friends be able to make it?

I’m definitely in.

I’ll go.

I’ll go along with Sel and one of his friends I think. I’ll have to check with him.

Evil is coming. . . .

Wang can you bring brackets on that day?
