Hit Box - We so S Tier1!

Nothing, actually. Just as nothing is stopping people from making blinking sticks for SSFIV. There’s nothing you can really do about it, but since the Hit Box is a brand, it’s much easier to say that, in a theoretical situation, it should be banned, because it’s a ban you can enforce. Of course a tourney isn’t going to check every stick to see who’s cheating, but if you waltz in with a Hit Box after they banned them, you’ll just get turned away.

Thread’s up, tests are commencing now

Right. Amp’s confusing the issue by mixing science and empirical methods into it when most sports bans (laws, rules in general, etc) have very little to do with scientifically measurable boundaries or empirical proof of unfairness. Ban are much more about perception and enforceability than anything else. The cheap and dirty steroids you can test for get you banned but top flight performance enhancement is allowed because it can’t be enforced.

We could probably do a study to prove that pads versus sticks have some sort of empirical biomechanical advantage (say for a 720) which using a metrics mindset could constitute cheating, but we don’t because culture, tradition, and common-sense (expectations; availability and proliferation of these two controllers; etc). Thus it isn’t about whether it’s easier to do a 720 on a pad than a stick which makes the who metric analysis of ABCs irrelevant.

The larger issue regarding cheats is software exploitation- such as in the form of allowing charging characters to walk forward; or free anti-crossup blocking- (apparently not an issue for the two biggest games now) and macros, such as programmed standing 720s. It’s a little disconcerting to hear that is something being “worked on” for the Hit Box earlier in this thread, suggesting something along the lines of dialing a 720 and having it be executed by the controller rather than the player per se.

Rather than forcing refs to OK every controller, it’s be easier to just ban ABCs outright. It doesn’t have to be empirical or even fair, just what the regulators decide. For example, with regard to standardized testing, all manner of things tend to be banned which aren’t even empirically used in cheating or empirically significant (shenanigans by school admins under pressure to perform have a far more prolific and empirically significant effect on test scores coming from cheats than, say, mechanical pencils), nonetheless it’s done for the perception and the enforceability. Even if tests for bilked controller were across the board, most refs would be able to at least give a bilked stick a go at finding issues, I doubt few would know where to begin with an ABC.

Yo Dustin, can we get an ETA on the cases? Waiting will be easier when I know how long I have to wait.

Hey, we got our corrected tops in today. I logged in to make a comment about it and found out all hell broke loose! Thank you guys for doing so much research on SOCD’s and getting to the bottom of these issues. This weekend we’ll have some really nice pics of our first completed professionally manufactured Hit Boxes!

I’m really stunned to find that pad utilizes dummy block too. I’m really not worried about ban in that anyone can exploit this, but we have to get the right message out.

No, I didn’t use dummy block at WNF, but it’s possible for anyone to on any method of control. Please help get the message to Capcom to fix this.

Thanks guys!

Hey Brian, I might have to hit you up for one of those official Hit Boxes, see if that all-24mm layout is really worth it. What kind of price are we talking here?

What kind of aesthetic and function customization options can we expect? Button colors, sanwa vs. seimitsu?

Wow i feel conflicted. I still think hitboxes are kinda stupid, but also if i could only wrap my mind around the whole button/joystick substitution, it could make things a whole lot better.

Part of the problem with my game is my reflexes aren’t quite as fast as they could be.

Also anyone think the directional & attack buttons are too close to each other? Seems like the fingers run the risk of bumping into eachother often.

@TrueGrave it’s not like your hand and/or fingers are going to do much lateral movement with this stuff.

It was designed in such a way so that your fingers should only move down to press the button.

I’m actually curious about this myself.

I’m glad I got up on the waiting list early in February before everybody jumped on the train, lol. Curious to see the pictures/info on the product, the wait is killin’ me!

Here as well, I’m almost ready to buy one myself.

Man! Those are sexy!

I think the only question now is “when?”

Since I got on the waiting list in early February, not a day goes by without me thinking about getting my hands on one of these.

I NEED TO KNOW HUSSER_BRIAN ARRRRRGH head explodes

Those are beautiful. Nothing much else can be said about it. I’m with death in that I got on the wait list on early February, so hopefully I don’t need to wait too much longer.

Manufactured in Henderson, Nevada huh? That’s exactly where I am. I wonder if I can buy one on site and forget the shipping

I requested one of these babies back in November. Dustin notified me on WED that the first batch was ready. I am proud to say that I ordered and paid for it this morning, oh yeah!! Can’t wait for next week!!!

Good, good, the process is coming along rubs hands in anticipation
