Hit Box - We so S Tier1!

In Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown one of the most important advanced maneuvers is the EDC or Evade Dash Cancel which you can perform by evading (up into background or down into foreground) and cancelling into a dash or crouch dash (forward forward or down-forward down-forward). This can be really hard to do consistently especially in on 2P side with a stick w/o practicing for a long time. Hitbox makes it easier in the long run but there is still a big learning curve to doing it on hitbox if you are a long time stick player and new to hitbox.

When you get really good at hitbox you can perform square dashing and wave dashing effortlessly. This would be really difficult on a stick even with years of practice. I’m using a hitbox in these vids with the input display on so you can see how fast and consistent the inputs need to be to do it. You can also hear me tap the buttons

Hitbox: best way for 3D fighting game

Quick question, hopefully this is the right place to ask…

I got my hitbox second-hand a few years back in well-used condition. Lately I noticed the whole controller will briefly stop responding during play for anywhere from a half a second to indefinitely until I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable (and maybe give it a good whack). I opened it up and the screw terminals seem to all be fine, so I wanted to take a look at the underside of the PCB and check the solder joints but there’s a brownish foam or plaster (contact cement?) covering the whole thing.

Trying to determine if this brownish stuff on the bottom was always there or if it was added by one of the other owners of this particular hitbox.
Anybody know what it is? Is there a way to get it off without hurting the PCB?

Can you provide a photo?

Yeah, that whats I am afraid off. There no easy way to cut that gunk off.

Crud… Out of curiosity, what is the gunk called?

Well I have an unused Paewang PCB lying around… I’ll just test it for SOCD the games I play, make a cleaner if I need it and then swap that in.

hitbox is a different experience.

It’s some sort of glue. What kind I am not sure off.
Maybe rubber cement. I don’t think its epoxy.

Is the plexi for the PS4 hitbox clear? I want to put custom artwork in it but I don’t know if it’s like the PS3/X360 version that has the painted plexi.

After months of lurking around these forums and viewing just about every youtube video there is on hitboxes, I finally decided to join the hitbox family and pre-order one!! ^.^

Sad part is that estimated time for arrival is on may :S

Modded my madcatz fightstick alpha to a hitbox. Love it!

It is not clear.

Did you replace the stock pcb with the alpha or did you dual mod?

I bought a hitbox several years ago, but I hardly used it. Maybe 2-300 hours and then disconnected it and plugged it in yesterday. I changed to windows 10 in the meanwhile but the stick isn’t functional anymore. THe second I start a game that allows for sticks it will disconnect/reconnect every second. Sometimes only every minute, sometimes not at all for hours. However for the most part it just connects/disconnects every second making it unusuable.

Any advice? I already re-installed the whole PC, because this rapid disconnection seemed like a software issue at first glance to me.

Edit: I also lost the small manual that came with it. I know I can switch between xbox and PC mode, just dunno how anymore since the manual is missing as the cd. Basically after moving 2 years ago I onlyhave the stick left

First of all, sounds like you might have an issue with your USB. If it’s not the cable, it’s your motherboard drivers not liking the pcb inside. You may need a powered hub or a USB repeater. Second, to force 360 mode, hold Y/Tri while plugging in.

Thanks for the help so far. The PC I used this stick with is unchanged over the years. The only thing that changed is the graphic cards. nvidia 660->970. I checked the cable to the best of my abilities. Pushed it around to see if it would instantly trigger disconnects, but to no avail. That is why I reinstalled the computer in the first place. The cable was hardly moved after all.

I am trying to update the firmware, but windows 10 won’t let me. The flip software doesn’t seem to work properly with windows 10, while the program starts the second I click on USB communication the endeavor ends there. Tried old java, compability mode, new java etc. to no avail. Windows will always say the better drivers are installed and that is it.

Motherboard would be the Asus Z77 pro 3. I shall try to find a powered hub/USB repeater, but I wonder how this could become necessary suddenly.

Edit: Well the disconnections stopped happening for now, but it doesn’t work in street fighter at all anymore. Doesn’t recognize the inputs at all anymore. In windows all is still functional, every button. I tested them specifically and pressed them all at the same time. Maybe I accidentally triggered a combination I don’t know about. Stopped working in street fighter afterwards though. What a headache

Are you in 360 mode or PC/PS3? You need to be in 360 mode for SFV to work since that is xinput mode.

Vicko I don’t know anymore. I certainly got it to change its mode once since it registered as unknown device. So far I tried starting it with LP, MP, LP+MP, all punches, light kick, medium kick. It all doesn’t change anything. Unfortunately I don’t know what Y/Tri is on the stick.

I will keep trying more buttons but the one it worked with flawlessly was just plugging it in holding start (I was trying to update the firmware afterall and that is one of the steps). It doesn’t work like that anymore though so I accidentally triggered something while holding all buttons at the same time.

I am using the manual from the PS360+ which only shows 1p, 2p, 3p which I translate as punches.

What stick do you have and how do you not know which button is which?
edit: hitbox thread, lol

2p is Y/Tri. If you go to start, run joy.cpl, whichever button registers as 4 is the button you need to hold while plugging in.
