I started using a hit box because I originally had a tennis elbow and had streams of pain up my arms when using an arcade stick. I’m super sensitive, and have never had any discomfort with the hit box. It’s important that your palms are resting on the hit box, and that you’re using your fingers and not your wrist. Try adjusting your position…
It’s possible your muscles are getting sore since you haven’t used those muscles in that way. Or you could be on the way to getting carpal tunnel so be careful. Try to rest the ball of your wrist on the surface and arc your hand like you’re trying to hit WASD.
Thanks, guys. To rest my left palm on the Hitbox, I have to angle my left hand a fair bit to make it fit (Hitbox isn’t particularly wide, as you know.) In this position, my fingers curl nicely onto the direction keys and my left wrist is about 30 degrees off center. Does that sound about right?
30 degrees? That sounds incredibly uncomfortable. I think somewhere around 70 degrees is probably the norm(assuming that the edge facing you is the x-axis).
Can anyone help with this?
Started up steam, Hit Box worked fine. Went out of SF4, and back into it, hit box is registered and I see all the buttons, but the game isn’t picking up me pressing any buttons. It’s picking up that I got the stick, but not that I press buttons. When I test the hit box in control panel, it shows all buttons working fine and they light up as I press each one.
What can I do? Tried reinstalling SF4, rebooting, etc. This is really getting to me, I can’t play anymore!
Make sure you plug in your stick before you start up SF4.
So… I understand selling points of a hitbox, but what are drawbacks in terms of gameplay?
I know a lot of motions become easier, but are there things that also become harder that you may not have expected? Examples would be helpful, I play guilty gear and marvel.
Half circles are more difficult to do. Some double half circle shit you gotta do in KoF is a problem for me. The stuff in GG is usually not a big problem unless I need to do 632146 off a normal very quickly.
I never do 360s and 720s, but some people say they are easier, some say they are harder. If you need to hit all 7 points for a 360 in a given game I’m sure it’s probably harder.
Learning a new input method can be very frustrating as well.
I’m personally baffled at how KoF half circles can be harder for you than GG half circles when KoF half circles don’t require diagonals at all where as GG half circles require every single direction.
When refrencing KoF I said double half circles, not half circles. In GG I only have to do single half circles or 632146. In KoF I play Vice and have to execute double half circles, which are challenging on a hitbox.
The problem I personally have with half circles is missing the neutral down input. I end up doing 4136
Do most Hitboxers here use left thumb or right for jump/up? I noticed in their videos the fellow uses his right quite a bit.
PS Still noticing some discomfort, though. Sounds like I am the only one, though? I thought I remembered reading a thread by another fellow who got Carpal Tunnel from it but can’t find the thread now.
I use both thumbs depending on the situation or the game. If you are getting tired or hurting, find a more ergonomic position to sit/play in. Bend your fingers like you are playing piano or typing on a keyboard.
Carpel Tunnel happens because someone is prone to it, not because of what you do with your hands really. If he had taken up sketching instead of playing on a Hit Box he probably would have gotten Carpel Tunnel still
Happy Hit Box owner here, my first reaction when I bought this beast was “what the fuck did I just buy, this expensive shit is too sensitive and I can’t get used to the up button”. Transitioning from game pad to this was a big step. But after less than a month of seldom gameplay I already got used to the Hit Box and will never go back to anything else, my execution has improved drastically and I can now play for extened periods of time with no pain. After 30 minutes of game pad usage, my left thumb would hurt because of the stupid broken d-pad, sometimes even after 10 minutes!
Anyway, I was wondering if there exists any way to customize/hack the “HitBox Edition Cthulhu+” firmware that comes with the PS3/PC version in order to make it Asynchronous SOCD (being able to press both left and right or up and down at the same time like with a keyboard), with no hardware modification required? If Hit Boxes were customizable like THIS(switchable between synchronous and asynchronous) they would be even more awesome. It’s up to the game developers to deal with simulaneous directions (like they have always done).
Is there a guy in youtube that did a mod for that “switchable async SOCD” on off, with an arduino board. Maybe you need to give it a try.
Hey guys, anyone got any tips for best way to install LEDs into a Hitbox? It has a PS360+
I want the buttons to light up when they are hit, but I want to be able to turn it off too. Are there any worries about input lag if I install an LED controller?
I want the LED for each button to match the color of the button in the picture below. It’s supposed to make it look like the eye of the personality core is lighting up. The left button will be blue for the blue portal, the down button will be pink for the companion cube, the right button will be orange for the orange portal, and the up button will be red for the turret’s eye.
I’ve done some research but I’ve run into some problems involving 24 vs 30 mm buttons and controllers only being able to do 8 LEDs.
Thanks guys!

Hey im looking for something like this for the Hitbox layout, pretty sure this was posted somewhere on SRK but i can’t find it anymore.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks for the feedback, folks. Are you saying that you always keep the palm of both hands on the Hitbox at all times? I thought I did but when I actually watched myself playing I realized that I do lift my wrist off the Hitbox frequently. Not sure if this is the source of the discomfort?
I use the hitbox like a keyboard on my lap basically.
Check this info on keyboard ergonomics, how he is sitting and typing is basically how you should use the hitbox imo:

As you can see, resting your wrists is a bad idea. You’re going to be rotating and moving them back and forth anyway so I don’t see a reason to rest them.
How long do you play per day? How long have you used the hitbox? Where do you experience the pain?
Do your hands hurt even when not playing? It could be you developed some tendonitis and just need to let it heal.
Also about jumping, people use whichever they perfer. I used to use my left thumb only but then realized that it can be very helpful in many situations to use my right thumb. Now I use both depending on the situation.
Used the Hitbox on and off for several months, often an hour or so a day. Discomfort has gradually creeped up over time - it is mostly a feeling of soreness in the forearm.
Interesting to see that a number of users here actually endorse keeping your wrists on the Hitbox, which seems like a bad idea, according to the ergonomics link.
