Hit Box - We so S Tier1!

I sold that one last year, took a one year hiatus and now back into it. I play both stick and Hitbox now. It’s funny that certain characters I’m better on stick (Cammy, Makoto) while on Hitbox (Rufus, Balrog). What about you? Play both or strictly Hitbox?

I’m currently playing stick right now because there is a big tournament tomorrow night and all the main games are going to be on 360. But once the tournament is over and I get my PS360+ I’ll probably be playing HitBox only. I’ve been hitboxing in the lab a little bit but the rest of the time has been stick practice for the tournament. I don’t play AE much but when I do I play Dudley and half circles are definitely easier to pull off on hitbox but I wouldn’t say my execution is better on either. I just picked up Marvel after EVO. I’m playing Nova/Frank West/Spencer and I haven’t had much practice on hitbox because I knew the tournament was coming up. For my main game Injustice though, OH MAN! Let me tell you. Injustice should ONLY be played on Hitbox. It’s perfect for the cardinal direction input system it uses. I honestly HATE playing Injustice on stick and can’t wait for PS360+ to get here so I never have to play it on stick again haha. The RDK guys are really putting a lot of excellent work on Hitboxes for Injustice. Godspeed got 5th at EVO and CEO and Tyrant just won an excellent grand finals at Wednesday Night fights. But I’ve been a fanboy since back in the day when angry bananas interviewed them at SCR in 2010.
SCR interview:

Wednesday night fights grand finals (W) Emperor Theo vs. (L) RDK Tyrant

That’s how I feel also, my Hitbox works on 360/PS3 but I only have a 360 stick. I’m thinking of getting it dual modded when I get some extra cash laying around. As far as games. I havent played UMVC3 but vanilla MVC3 when it first came out. I really want to try injustice though, you mentioned that couple posts ago that Hitbox is ideal for injustice. I watched Godspeed in the grand finals and it amazing. His Hitbox looks nice, orange and black(Go Giants). So now my main game is AE, I’m thinking of attending some local casual/tournament play around the Bay area.

yea the game just flows so much better on Hitbox. I took mine out of the box and hooked it up with Injustice to make sure it was all working fine( I got it used and the box was a bit roughed up by USPS). Popped in Injustice and was nailing Green Arrow corner combos like nothing. Went back to stick to practice for the tournament and I had to retrain myself to do the combo because I had to allow more time for the inputs because of the extra travel time on the arcade stick. Yea I like the black and orange as well. I keep thinking about changing my buttons colors and getting a new screen printed plexi but I love how clean the black plexi with just the logo looks with the red and black buttons on mine. The select/start/guide buttons are yellow but I never see them anyways haha.

I agree! The clean and subtle colors of the Hitbox is pretty awesome. I was tempted to have a custom simplecase from Nitewalker but I’m not very competent with soddering/wiring PCBs. Have you tried Hitbox with Persona 4/KOF?

Okay long story short.
Not everyone is meant to play with a joystick. Some people prefer gamepads, more power to them. Still others try to build controllers that reproduce the feel of a keyboard.
What Hit Box does or tries to do is give you that all button control with an ergonomic layout for the directional buttons. Making Left, down and Right (in that order fit a hands natural curve) while Up is a larger button at the end of the arrangement. its why in a Hit Box layout all the buttons except for the UP button are 24mm buttons, and only UP is 30mm.

Check out Page one of this thread for more details.

I agree with Darksakul, some people are just natural with joystick. The biggest thing that I tell people is try out all three types. My buddy of mine who plays strictly pad can give me an a*s whopping. He can’t play on a stick/Hitbox if his life depended on it. I’m pretty even in terms of execution but I am more comfortable going to a tournament(if I go to one soon) with Hitbox.

Some people just get out the Quarter circle motions out quicker on Hit Box then they do on a d-pad or stick.
And the SOCD argument is looser talk as its been proven almost any controller can produce a SOCD conflict.
Its stupid easy to to a SOCD on a PS1/2/3 or Xbox 360 analog gamepad and it takes some very minor rewireing to make it possible on a stick.

Anyways SOCD isn’t even a issue on most fighting games. And those who have the issue been patched or a newer version came out.
The biggest culprit of SOCD is the vanilla Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultimate MvC 3 fixed this.

I remember when Hitbox first came out, people were bashing it saying it’s unfair… or there’s an advantage with using buttons compared to a stick. EVO approved Hitbox and voila!

You must have missed the days where everyone said it was terrible and had a laundry list of special moves and/or combos that would be impossible on it and no one would switch from stick to Hit Box. We’ve certainly come a long way.

Is there any rough estimation of how many Hit Box players there are out there? How many are seen at Evo these days?

1000% agreed, Hitbox was the reason that brought me back to fighting games. I couldn’t use a stick or to better say the learning curve was brutal. Took about two years to feel comfortable with a stick while Hitbox took a solid month of practicing daily. BTW, how are the shirts coming along?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a hit box player, and I was a strong supporter to ban Hit box controllers at tournaments. And I had a long discussion with Husser_Brian about it.
I still am not a fan of hitboxes. What I am is I am reasonable enough to realize that hit boxes are not the enemy and if I look at it without bias that hox boxes are just another style of controller that happens to fit the play style of some players.

Glad we have open minded people like you.

A Majority of my time playing KOF and ALL of my time playing Persona 4 were on a hitbox. I honestly had no problem using it for either game. I actually had a lot of fun doing Takuma combos on hitbox. Quick drum forward, back, forward for his Zanretsuken (rapid punchces) into a slide across the buttons for his half circle back Kyokugen Houken (command grab). In Persona 4 I mainly played Akihiko(the boxer) and Naoto( the detective with the gun). A hitbox was definitely great to have for all the duck/duck canceling that akihiko has. Naoto loops were also unbelievably easy on hitbox.

I still remember the video of the dash forward guile super on keyboard.

I get that people are going to hate on them. People just don’t like change, or looking past their personal preferences, or thinking that their opponent has found an unfair advantage. But luckily there have been more people like you who have put down the pitchforks and said “live and let live.”

haha more like a MK 19 Gernade launcher… it only took a little over a year for Dark =P … Gotta respect the hitbox team tho… kept doing what they do and the community responded pretty well even through the negative hype that it all caused seeing a stick-less controller in the FGC… as long as it promoted growth and gives players another option to learn the games its healthy… glad to see that they are going strong…

When I got my Hitbox last year, I was hesitant of the hate that I would receive if I attended tournaments. Now it’s being slowly accepted in the FGC.

Are there any European retailers? Or is the $60 shipping to Europe the only way?

Thanks.

Yep. Man I miss those MK 19 Grenade launchers, and the M2 browning and the M203, man I just miss being able to blow stuff up and the law would be on my side.

But yeah I was a hard “sell” if you were. I saw hitboxes as little cheat boxes for a while. Banning the hit box was a easy solution but it be the wrong solution, specially when the real issue in question can be duplicated with a gamepad or arcade joystick. If I would judge an arcade controller making contest, the hitbox entries would still at one time get automatic points reduction for just being a hit box. But as I look more and more at the facts, the more my opinion started to sway, till I started to defend people for their choices even if it was not my choice.

I’m assuming you were in the marines? I’ve always been a fan of the .50 cal machine gun. I had a classmate who said that’s one of the loudest things he ever heard when he was out in Afganistan. Also heard scary stories bout it’s ruthless destruction. I’m not sure if this is true but the human genava convention stated that it’s unethical to fire it directly at people but rather to be fired at surrouding objects. A good friend of mine told me that, no so sure about it’s validity.
