someone please give me some tips on the ryu match, my buddy plays him and hes coming over at weekend i just lost to him 6 - 0 online bad times lol.

He Plays really really lame starts every round with jump back lol he doenst cancel his fire balls and doesnt fall for the momochi setup this shit feels imposiibru how the hell do i deal with his sweep and cr mk, my walk speed makes me want to cry lol he just kept nuetral jumping at crack kick range and i cant do jack shit about WHAT DOOOO :frowning:

If he is sweeping, block one - reversal MK ruffian kick or focus it and crumple him. cr.MK is a bitch for Cody your best bet is generally to just get your spacing down and try and get him to whiff it so you can punish with cr.LK. The occasional focus dash - throw will also work but it’s risky. If he is neutral jumping at crack kick range, that means he is in range of Cody’s far HK or potentially Cody’s HK Ruffian anti airs. Also you could surprise him with a slide or f.MP on his way down.

That is about the best I can offer, I have some trouble with the matchup as well.

thanks for the tips man, i meant cancelling his cr mk into hadoken lol shouldnt smoke and type, yeah its just his neutral jump mp/mk that seems to shut down all of my approaches, hk him out of the air does work pretty well but it’s so whiff punishable, he just jumps eats three of them i whiff one and he lands and does ultra urggg. f mp is well to slow and slide doesnt go far enough.

also i know i can punish his sweep with ultra 2 but is it pretty easy to do? can i just mash it?

i sound like such a salty bitch lol, i just want to send him back to cardiff with his tail between his legs.

If you block his sweep then yeah you can mash ultra 2 for free. Ryu’s sweep is -14F on block.

Hey was just wondering if any one can give me a tip or help on completing one of Cody’s most basic combos. Now, for some reason no matter how hard i try, i can’t get his crouching jab jab crouching light kick criminal upper combo consistently for some reason. Every time i try i get the jab jab short but the criminal upper never comes out. I’m able to do his crouching jab jab crouching medium punch criminal upper combo 90 percent of the time and ever harder ones like his stand close heavy punch crouching medium punch criminal upper most of the time too. Just not the crouching jab jab crouching
short criminal upper for some reason.

Hey Vammo, the most likely answer is that you’re chaining your light attacks rather than linking them (i.e. you’re doing the light kick too fast). Since you can’t special cancel a chained attack, you need to slightly delay the final light attack to make it a link, and therefore special cancelable.

Don’t know if this is common knowledge, but:

Everyone knows that if you land a jump-in on Balrog in the corner, you can do either cl.mp, cl.mp, cr.hp xx HK RK or cr.lp, cr.lp, cl.mp, cr.hp xx HK RK and without FADC:ing link into U1. This is because the HK Ruffian hits VERY meaty on Balrog.

Turns out, there is a character that this combo works even better on - Cody. In fact, it works so well, that you can do jump-in hk, cl.mp, cl,mp, cr.hp xx HK RK, f.HK xx EX CU. So that combo costs one meter. And it’s a whole lot easier to land U1 also, I get it every single time.

On Rose u can also do j.hk, cl.mp, cl.mp, cr.hk xx qcf.hk, U1like on Balrog. Though it is alot more strict. Doing it on Cody it works really well. This makes the mirror matches a bit more interesting :stuck_out_tongue: Wonder on which other characters cl.mp(x2), cr.hp xx… can be done.

That’s a good style combo when you stun Cody in the corner.

You can do cls MP - cls MP - crHP on a crouching Ryu without a jump in. I actually showed a bunch of similar ideas in a video a while ago:

Glad people are actually exploring it. It has to do not with hitting meaty but with a combination of how the reeling animations affect the distance between the two characters to allow for close or far normals and also the speed that Cody recovers being fast enough that the opponent hasn’t fully finished their pushback.

Trying out some changes on PC…

After having a set with SevenDaggers’ Cody the other night, he gave me some pointers on footsies. After some time in the lab I came up with a new method of quickly analysing a poke’s viability. Basically you take the range of the move (in cubes) and divide it by the startup. Some of the better pokes, when measured this way, include:

Poke - Range/Startup
Far standing lk 1
cr.lk 1.66
cr.mp 1
cr.mk 1
Far standing hk 1

Other notable pokes include:

Forwards mp 0.88
Forwards hk 0.79
cr.hk 0.85
Forwards hp 0.5

Obviously this only tells you so much about these pokes, since it doesn’t take into account the moves’ hitboxes. For example fw.mp is far more useful than this data would suggest, but, as a general guide this seems like a legit way to assess moves quickly.

OS to beat everything Rose can do on wakeup short of Ultra 1.

Nice, I’ve been having some issues against some good Rose players down here. Have you tried anything with crack kick? I played one match where I did crack kick on Rose’s wakeup and it beat ex soul spiral clean, however when I did it in tournament it beat crack kick, so idk if its real or timing or something, would also catch back dash…i think, lemme try lol

I did find another OS that works well: Do OS Sweep. It’ll beat backdash or EX Spiral but she can do EX Soul throw and escape (but you recover in time to punish if you are on your toes.)

However crack kick does not work. Spiral hits Cody’s crack kick before active (by quite a bit too.)

EX Spiral = 13F startup.
Crack kick = 14F startup

OS crack kick = 17F startup (you have to take into account the 3F of landing recovery from performing a safe jump).

Didn’t momochi have a frame trap on rose that uses far s.mk to beat out EX soul drill?
