^So Is it possible for Cody to backdash Shoryuken type moves if timed correctly?

Not at point blank range. It would be if Cody’s backdash wasn’t the shortest in the game but at the point that the invincibility wears off, most DPs hitboxes are still in range to hit him out of the air. This is especially noticeable with DPs like Seth’s or Ken’s that have a fairly large curve to them as they rise upwards instead of going straight up.

You guy’s I’m stoked, Momochi is coming to NCR, I’m trying to hit up PR.Balrog to let me go MM him lol, hopefully if it happens I have some footage for you guys.

Best of luck! Ask Momochi what kind of stuff he wants for Cody and Akuma in 2013 if you get a chance.

I’ll see if I can find something special for Balrog or Fei matchup in terms of weird tech you maybe could use.

Oh, well I’d MM pr balrog too, I should’ve been more clear, I think Momochi is staying over Balrog’s house so I’d need to ask Rog if he can set-up a MM for me against Momochi. hehe.

Thanks Eternal! Will do! It would be interesting to see what he would like for both those characters

Thanks bro! So you have to have some distance between the opponent for the invincibility frames to work?

Well the invincibility frames work no matter what, the thing is that you’re still in range when they wear off so the move still hits you. But for those 8F the move is missing. Keep in mind, most DPs have anywhere from 12 to 18 active frames.

One situation where you can backdash a DP is versus Dan after blocking M/H/EX Dankukyaku. Feels like such a luxury

That’s cool. Let us know if you get any pearls of wisdom from Momochi. Would love to hear his thoughts on anything Cody.

I wouldn’t rely on Cody’s back dash for anything. I’ve tried using it to bait wake up ultra’s, did it extremely early and still got hit by it. I never bother using it on my opponents wake up and very rarely use it on my own wake up, it’s almost completely useless. My other character is Yang who has a godlike back dash so it’s like night and day going between the two.

Also works against Sagat’s uppercut.

You think Cody - Yang’s back dash is night and day? My alt is Makoto! :stuck_out_tongue:

Some new(?) tech I found the other night. Works on A BUNCH of reversals other than the few I showed. Most notable though is the fact that it is literally a 1button anti t-hawk mashing tech. His SPDs are ALL out of range and his tomahawks all whiff as well. Only thing Thawk can do to punish it is a frame perfect s.LP or cr.LP which he only gets 1hit.

Some notes though:
If the opponent STAND blocks instead of crouch blocks the reversal is MORE likely to whiff (Ryu’s HP SRK will hit Cody if Ryu crouch blocks the cls.MK but if Ryu STAND blocks the cls.MK the HP SRK whiffs.) don’t ever try it against Dan or Guile, their reversals move them too far forward on startup and it always hits Cody no matter what strength. Fei is a gamble as his DP will be blockable (both because cls.MK is only -4F and Fei’s dp is 5F but it still hits on 6F from what I can tell) but Fei is still in range of his cr.LP which means he can do cr.LP - Rekka (though he doesn’t get a chance to really hitconfirm the cr.LP more than once.) Adon’s LK Rising and EX Rising are both still considered grounded at the point that they hit Cody, so while they ARE blocked Adon is able to FADC them still and make it safe.

Ken’s DPs all either whiff or are blocked, however Ken CAN punish Cody fully by doing a cr.MK - DP as his cr.MK is 4F and reaches plenty far enough. Gief’s MP/HP/EX SPDs are all out of range however LP SPD is still in range. Evil Ryu only gets 1 hit of his HP SRK on Cody and the move whiffs entirely on stand block just like regular Ryu. Dudley can hit you with his HP Jet Upper but none of the other ones work (but they are all blocked so he CAN fadc them and make them safe.)

Also you don’t HAVE to do the cr.LP - cls.MK it works with raw cls.MK or forward MP cls.MK or cls.LP - cls.MK as well but cr.LP - cls.MK is a 4F frame trap so I thought it was the best option.

Nice work. Techtun mentioned something similar to me the other night in that you can use the pushback on cl.mk to bait tech attempts by whiffing it point blank just before your opponent wakes up.

Did some more testing on that OS here is a more complete breakdown:

The Viper OS will beat EX Seismo, EX Seismo Feint, HP Thunder Knuckle, and HP Thunder Knuckle Feint. If Viper does a reversal EX Burn Kick the EX Criminal Upper AND the EX Burn Kick both whiff but Cody recovers first as EX Criminal Upper is 52F total while EX Burn Kick is 58F total so Cody can potentially punish the EX Burn Kick.

Great stuff @ManiacMike313

Credit should go to Packz though, he was the first to find that OS (as well as many other OS).

Just fancy stuff in training mode showing the use of s.HP - b.MP

Man I wish I had found this combo before I recorded that video last night. Possibly the sexiest combo I’ve seen yet.

cls.HP (counterhit) - EX Badstone - walk forward - cls.HP - b.MP - cr.MP - EX Zonk (only first hit connects.) - Crack Kick (no need for an FADC) - EX Criminal Upper

542 damage 949stun done on Abel

@Eternal The Viper tech is quite old, and if the Viper does the HP TK Feint (Not sure on this, could be something else, but my friend who plays Viper says it’s a 1 frame timing) the Viper will block in time and can punish the EX CU. That’s why you also need to do jump-in OS throw to mix it up!

God damn that sexy combo  Nice find!
