Heroes of the Storm: Blizzard's All Star MOBA for people who hate MOBA's

you have to request on blizzards site, and hope you get picked

how do you get a beta key?

They announced closed beta for Jan 13th.

You have to opt into the beta on your bnet account. I didn’t try the new heroes at blizzcon yesterday but I will today.

Once you opt in on your account it’s pretty much just luck. IDK if there’s any way you can increase your odds, really. I’ve been opted in for a while now and never got any news on it.

Its mostly based on PC specs, make sure you update your hardware profile. Also still just random.

There’s about to be a huge influx of people (there already has been, but there is gonna be more.)

Can’t wait for the new content. Let’s do this thing.

i’ve been in the alpha for about a month now.

it’s pretty fun

They announced stimpacks today, pay real money for boosts in gold and xp. This makes me not want to play for some reason. I find myself drifting back to the game for bursts, then getting bored and not wanting to play for long stretches.

I have gotten every hero in the game to level 5. Awww yeah, dat gold baby.

Yknow I can’t actually find where to do that in my battlenet account. Went in and looked recently, couldn’t find it anywhere. It’s not on the beta tab, as far as I can tell.

Looks like they’ve removed it, I think its integrated into the battle.net app now so theres no need for it to be collected separately

It’s the unsettling feeling of knowing people can pay to advance. It’s the main reason I don’t play Marvel Puzzle Quest anymore - progression is based on luck and how much money you dump into it. Thus when you’re grinding in HotS, leveling your guys someone else is just entering a credit card number and at the very least is spending half the time to surpass your efforts.

See I have no problem paying money, I’ve dropped like 60 bucks or so on hots. Players who expect everything without paying money i think is a problem. I do have a problem paying money for xp boosts, because of how dumb it is. I’d rather pay $10 for a hero than $10 to earn more gold towards a hero

i don’t see much problem with it.

if someone wants to get master skins faster then that’s whatevs, i’m not going to be jealous when i look at someone’s profile and they have twice as many as i do. i already have the ones for the heroes i like and i’m not interested in collecting skins.

as for gold that seems like a complete waste of money imo, bulk of your gold comes from daily quests and lv5s anyway. if you wanna give blizzard money to get an extra 45g per win be my guest.

unfortunately a lot of the things that hots abandons are also things that help improve longevity of the game. throw in the hearthstone daily quests system and you have a game that isn’t the sort of game you want to play for 4+ hours at a time.

Which I appreciate, there are plenty of games to cater to that already

I just got into the alpha, what what!

Can’t wait for Ranked.

My Murky is getting really good. I’m carrying games by myself. Murloks is just too powerful of an ult, and with gathering power, I turn into a little unkillable late game terror.

https://www.hotslogs.com/

if you upload your replays here, this site gives you a decent match history and guesses what your MMR is (though it can’t tell premades from solos so it’s going to be pretty far off)

there’s also hero statistics, though keep in mind it ignores mirror matches and games with heroes below lv4

Tried this at my cousin’s house today, came home and found out it was activated in my Battlenet as well.

It’s sort of what I thought it’d be, it’s Baby’s First MOBA: The Game. But I think that’s fine. What I immediately appreciated was how smoothly I was able to AA cancel and kite with Demon Hunter, only Dawngate has felt this smooth to me prior to this game. It’s the polar opposite of games like DotA and Infinite Crisis, it’s smooth, crisp and responsive. I didn’t feel the same about the smartcasting, if you’re performing any action it doesn’t seem to register your skills being pressed. I also like how her skill tree forced tough decisions, there were some really good perks you had to skip to get lifesteal in the first two trees. IDK if that’s true for all characters or if there’s a proven and measurable “best loadout” for a lot of champs, not like it really matters in such a casual game.

It was fun to pick up and play, they accomplished that much really well. Little nagging things still bug me, like not being able to slot my actives onto different numbers, hoping for that to be changed. Hilarious that ANYONE would rage over a game that’s so obviously casual, but it happened in all 5 games I’ve tried so far. The biggest thing I saw was that it looks INSANELY grindy. The prices are way high for such an early stage of the game. But it’s Blizzard, so people will pay it.

If anyone wants to add me, it’s the same as my handle here. Apparently you get bonus income for group queues with friends.

Also what’s the deal with Nova? She went back into stealth (not her clone) while I was hitting her with autos, then came out of stealth behind her tower and ulted me for like 70% life. What mechanics are in the game to counter permanent resource free stealth when there’s no pinks or oracles? There’s a REALLY good reason Dawngate didn’t include stealth champs, after all.
