Played my first 2 hero league games! As u know I have a thing for specialists, I have all of them besides Nazeebo, and then I have Valla (1 assassin) and Brightwing (1 support). So I picked near last the first game, we had no tank but multiple supports, however since I have no tanks I just picked Sylvanas. Next game, learning my error, I said right away…I have no tank someone else will have to. Sure enough someone did, I picked last…they told me I would have to heal (since no one picked support), unfortunately someone on opposing team picked Brightwing…so I said, I can’t. As I was conversing, I ran out of time and my cursor was on Murky.
Anyways both games started with the team feeling we were doomed (everyone was polite however, so it was all good) yet we won both times miraculously. So…I guess it is never hopeless?
Played my first two hero league games, won them. First was Leoric with a comp that took advantage of Infernal Shrines, second as Jaina when we got the first two picks and locked in her and KT and built around that.
Second game was pretty close until Falstad did an amazing gust ult that threw everyone into Phoenix and Blizzard, they melted so fast and we took core on Blackhearts easy.
Learned a lot on Jaina baby, glad I have all essentials for hero league barring Johanna and sorta Zeratul. Get me Johanna next and bring hope to the battlefield.
Yeah from what I’ve seen in my early experience with hero league is Kael Thas, Jaina, Zeratul are the most popular assassins. Leoric and Johanna are the most popular tanks. Li Li and Khazerim are most popular Support characters. Sylvanas and Zaegera seem to be most popular specialists, but u see a lot of variety here.
So Rexxar is currently rock bottom(at least next to permanent resident Stitches) in the rankings, mostly because people dunno what to do with him yet. Being bugged does not help. He’s GREAT if there’s a boss to take though.
How is Rexxar bugged? From what I’ve seen my friend play of him: Every other good tank just does everything Rexxar is trying to do better. He’s so incredibly not needed.
Really though, the biggest problem is that none of the core tanks actually, you know, TANK. Johanna is the best pure tank, and people just use her and Leo.
Of the bottom 15 characters, 8 of them are Warriors.
Stiches, Diablo, Rexxar and ETC all hang out at the bottom with a <45% win rate.
Arthas, Sonya, Anub’Arak and Muradin all occupy the <47% range.
Chen and Tyrael are doing OK.
Leo’s currently ranked best in the game, with Johanna at #4.
Misha also doesn’t attack the Punishers at all. Rexxar feels rushed out and underwhelming.
Problem with Tanks is just the current meta of nuke em more than anything, it is sloooowly shifting to sustain but as is you can ignore most tanks and do your thing.
Johanna, Muradin, Tyrael, and Chen at least have a few ways to be disruptive and mess with teams without dying immediately.
Well, a lot of tanks lack a full package. Diablo has the health and disruption, but no way to get to the important targets without being lit up. ETC has the gap closing and the lockdown, but no health to help him survive the poking and burst. Rexxar can get to the back line, but can’t actually tank himself, so that’s out. And Stiches just sucks a thousand balls right now.
Compare that to Johanna, who can not only wade through a front line, but mass CC at an effective range. Or Leoric who deals boat loads of damage while healing through his own wounds and can get out of jail pretty free. Those two can survive long enough to reach the important targets or create an opening.
Yeah, I can see Tanks being fixed up in the future. But I fear Johanna/Leoric will be nerfed instead since the community complains about them a lot.
Stiches apparently has a rework coming to make him more of an anti spell Tank option. Retooling of his CC, more Regen, and more anti spell damage stuff. That is nice and would give him a different kit for two Tank meta.
The only problem with Leoric I see currently is his Q clears objectives like no ones business, he owns Infernal Shrines and Mines. But taking off a lot of power from that makes him borderline useless in lane.
Johanna not sure, I haven’t played or seen her much. She just pops the D and doesn’t care, making positioning a chore for teams which is neat.
Reverting some of the Diablo and ETC nerfs would be nice. I still think ETC is far worse than Diablo personally, but Diablo has to put a lot of talents into his passive to even survive fights.
Muradin is just solid, nothing to bad about him really.
Both Muradin and Chen are both pretty solid. They both tank for days and can be a big annoyance
I run Johanna and I can tell you that she’s only a problem because she functions as she should. Her biggest problem right now if I had to pick one(as far as being OP goes), is that Knight Takes Pawn essentially turns her into Leoric with his wave clear.
Good to hear Stitches getting a rework, he’s at the bottom, and though the hook is awesome and his trademark he doesn’t seem to have much else going for him.
As far as I understand it: Anyone who attended blizzcon (or got the virtual ticket) will get him automatically.
Anyone who did not attend will have to team up with someone else that owns him, and play as him for 2 games, at which point they unlock him on their own roster.
There’s also something for those that play 4 games with him to get a gold bonus or some crap like that, to help motivate people to share the character and spread him to other users.
