"Heroes for Hire" Iron Fist's Team Building thread

Strider can be a good edition to your team if your willing to learn him. Use his Vaijra assist and you can cover an area iron fist struggles with and add combo potential to Vergil.

IF (rising sun)/ Iron Man (unibeam) / Strider (vajra) has been working well. Also been running IF (rising sun)/ Vergil (rapid slash)/ Strider (vajra). The first team gets Iron fist in and builds a lot of meter that strider will ultimately take advantage of, the latter uses strider more for his assist and vergil for meter, but I find it harder to get in without a beam assist. dhc fists of fury into spiral swords is awesome as a previous poster pointed out.

I used Hulk(or Thor sometimes for me, but any slow heavy hitter will do good)/IronFist/Taskmaster

The Hulk gets in that ass and does some big damage while being covered by arrows, if he gets taken out somehow then you do the same with IronFist, if all else fails and you’re down to the master of tasks, if you even know how to kind of use him you should do pretty well.

pretty basic I know but hey.

I looked through all the messages and I saw only one person mention Iron Fist/Spencer/Strider, unless I missed some posts or that people would rather have doom with Strider. The way I see it, if you’re good at wave dashing and and recognize when Strider’s vajra will hit (in air) you can pick them up into Spencer’s grapple assist which leads to a 650k+ basic Iron Fist combo (2 meters,) or just DHC into Spencer’s bionic arm if you’re too far away from the corner. Works the same for air throws too, especially if you start to use resets into air throws.

I prety much use Spencer’s slant grapple assist to “catch” (like pokemon) people into a full Iron Fist combo (it does require you to use your Spencer assist early resulting in a modified combo or him. The combo that GomuGomu posted is clearly what any Iron Fist should do if you get a clean hit. Problem for me is that I dont really look for a clean hit on the ground with Iron Fist, I suppose I could try psuedo frame traps, but I have no clue on the frames for marvel.

My general combo is:

st.m, st.h, cr.h, f+h, j.h, j.s, (land,) st.m, st.h, b+h, qfc.l, qcf.m, dp.l(cancel,) qcb.m, qcf.h, qcf.m, iron barrage (super, cross-under) cr.h, f+h, qcf.l, spirit of the dragon (super.)

Does 890,800k, apologies about how the notation looks, I couldnt find the fancy icons and gave up after a minute. If you either catch the opponent with Spencer’s grapple assist or hit them with Strider’s vajra (standing) assist, Im pretty sure the combo works the same, you can always just do qcf.m, iron barrage (super) for the 2nd super instead of the above follow up. If you’re not near the corner, drop the first qcf.m and go straight into iron barrage (super) to carry them to the corner.

If you get an air throw or forward throw near the corner you can:

throw, qcb.m, qcf.h, dp.l(cancel,) spencer assist, qcb.m, (spencer hits,) qcf.m, b+h, qcf.m, iron barrage (super, cross-under,) cr.h, f+h, qcf.l, spirit of the dragon (super.)

Does 689,700k off of a throw, works the same if you hit the opponent with Stider’s vajra while they were in the air (just replace the throw with Stider’s assist.) i have not really experimented with damaged output yet though on this combo.

Basically, I just learnt to approach while blocking (chip away with vajra so when I do touch them, it becomes a ToD,) and look for air throws. I dont think people online expect much from Iron Fist. Although it is a really good feeling when your opponent feels as if they have to use x-factor to kill your Iron Fist.

The reason I use cr.h in the combos instead of crumple is because I feel it is more adaptable for a block string as well ( jump cancel f+h and call Strider at the same time,) I have a hard time hit confirming in the beginning of combos, so I just made one that works for both situations. However, I might have a hard time hit confirming just because it’s online and the loss of a couple frames.

Any runaway team has to worry about vajra assist, and random iron barrage (x-factor)-> bionic arm -> (x-factor) -> kitties (x-factor -> wall cling,) I will x factor anyone on my team to get a hit, and to stop dealing with lame runaway.

A mix-up team has to worry about raw spirit of the dragon -> x-factor -> spirit of the dragon (most people who are mix-up heavy use 2 characters to make the mix-up.)

Also, on an incoming character, you can call spencer and try to cross under to get the catch, or jump at them with j.h, if it hits, the grapple will hit, and pull them back down. You can also use vajra to bring them down the the ground for a hi-low/throw mix-up, or if it hits, go into a combo.

My Dorm kind of sucks, and Iron Fist looks interesting so I’m looking to put him in my team. My old team was Captain America, Dormammu, Dr. Doom.

I like Cap on point but he’s a decent second, so the new team will probably look like Iron Fist (rising fang), Cap (shield slash), Doom (Missiles). I don’t know if there’s too much synergy, but both of them benefit from Hidden Missiles (especially Cap, since it allows him to connect 2 Hyper Charging Stars). I’m wondering if I should make a new team altogether to work with IF (I could also throw Akuma in there) but Captain America is my best character right now.

Switch cap to charging star and you’re good to go. I think you’ll like what you see.

What are the uses for charging star? If I recall correctly, it’s vulnerable before and after it comes out isn’t it? I think it eats projectiles and causes a soft knockdown for combo extension though.

Most assists are all kinds of vulnerable, but the benefits you listed are the ones I had in mind. You have the ranged lockdown AND anti air from hidden missles, and charging star can clear the path directly in front of iron fist. There’s a guy who used to go to the Runback who made great use of that assist.

I’m having problems wit him I bin using him for about a month now n I keep gettin creamed!!!

  1. I can’t seem to get in to start a combo I have donte jam and strider assist
  2. I can’t really confirm his hits it hard to time them even the first hit!
  3. Then when I do luck up and get a good start I developed this stupid habbit of hitting crumble right after M smh
  4. Judging the distance between his standing M and H
I kno he’s good and does a ton of damage and I don’t plan on dropping him cause I kno he’s a monster one u use him right.i kno good start off bnbs and I pulled them off in the lab (sometimes online) anyone kno any good practice methods or tips to stop this craziness!!! Please help!

So I played Iron Fist when the game first came out, but got rid of him when it became apparent that he was hindering my team. But I love the character, so I want to give him another go. I’m working on a Super-Skrull/Iron Fist team right now and I need an anchor. I’ve got it narrowed down to three options and I’d like some input.

  1. Nova. I use him on point on my main team and he’s my best character. He’s a decent anchor with X-Factor, but doesn’t have amazing assists. Do his assists help Iron Fist very well - especially Centurion Rush with its forced ground bounce and hits high?

  2. Dormammu. I know he’s a good anchor and I’ve always wanted to find a team to fit him on. I’m thinking Dark Hole - how does that work with IF?

  3. Akuma. My last resort, since I don’t like the character and I’d have to learn him from scratch, but I know Tatsu is a great assist. I’d only use him if neither of the others are good in any way.

So what do you think? Also, how can I use Super-Skrull in tandem with IF, either on point or in the second position?

After Iron Rage you can do cr.:h:+:a2:, :f:+:h: > :qcb:+:h: xx :dp:+:l:~:m::h: (Volcanic Roar)

You combo them into the Dark Hole and then you do the double kick thing and cancel it into Chi L and press :atk::atk: immediately after it to get Volcanic Roar. The Chi brings you back to the ground and the motion you used for the Chi carries over to the hyper motion. That’s how I use it anyway.

Okay, good stuff. Thing is, I feel like I really need some kind of horizontal or lockdown assist to help me get in, and the way it stands I don’t have one. I might have to drop Skrull to get it but I don’t want to do that or put a lot of effort into learning another character. I already use Taskmaster - would Aim Master work well for that purpose?

Task arrows is among the best projectile assists in the game. Yeah, they’d work great.

I was running Phoenix Wright, Nemesis and Frank West for my team, but PW takes way to much getting used to for someone who has only played 3dgames before. I very much like Iron Fist and would want him to join the team. How would you guys set up Iron Fist Nemesist and Frank West in a team? After i saw the ECT with Justin Wong, i am pretty confident that FW can be played as anchor, and my first idea is that Iron Fist should be second cause he has that great jumpkick assist. So i would like to hear some thoughts about it

Currently running Iron Fist/Hawkeye/Akuma. Seems pretty good to me. Hawkeye can take care of IF’s the really lopsided match ups. Can get 1 mill off a hit. Everyone helps each other no matter who’s on point. Two decent anchors.

Anyone down for an Iron Fist mirror match ? I run Iron Fist,Ryu,Sentinel . This is my main team . If ya got PS3 shot me an invite
PSN:Hokuwokk

Hey all. Its been awhile with college and all so I’ve avoided most of UMVC3. I’m pretty terrible right now as little as I’ve played since vanilla, but before I stopped I was having a lot of trouble building up my Iron Fist team. I think I found a solid team for him now and wanted to hear everyone elses thoughts on the setup.

Arthur(daggers)/Iron Fist(dragon fang)/Taskmaster(horizontal shot)

Basically I run shenanigan zoning with Arthur using Iron Fist or Tasky to cover any gaps in my zoning. It rips people apart. However, this is about making Iron Fist good so I try to armor him and tag out ASAP. Armored Arthur daggers decimate everything I’ve encountered so far and cover a spread thats pretty wide…wide enough to wave dash in the middle of! I got a shot in front, one in back, and one as a belt and these things are durable as hell. I can now get in and best of all these things generate enough block stun to go for overheads and crossups pretty easily compared to what other assists offer in that area. Tasky H.Shot is there in case Arthur goes down and hes pretty well rounded and is playable at anchor here. Nice thing is the daggers do mad damage on hit or block and I can use them mid combo to help me corner march people with Iron Fist rekkas.

Any thoughts on this setup or tips? I’m pretty pumped because as trash as I was playing I was shutting down Doom’s, Vergils, and Zeros (twiced backed by vajra)with this online and that is not normal for Iron Fist on someone playing scrubby.

You can find some folks better than me using Iron Fist and Arthur daggers online (SirCaptain and Evul Soider), but neither ran Armored Arthur daggers with him like I did in their clips. Stuff is pretty harsh and even non armored they’re good.

Have you tried empty canceling or kara-canceling the rekkas? At certain distances you can whiff f+H and go into the low or high rekka, then emtpy cancel it on visual ques (i.e. they block high cancel into low). Arthur daggers should hold them still long enough for this. The only thing you have to worry about is chicken blocking opponents. For them jump cancel the f+H on block for the crossup while calling Arthur.

I haven’t tried the assist so this is all theory on what I think would work

What do you guys think the best lockdown assist is for IF?

Ammy "cold star"
Dr. Strange "eye of armkdlsjfsaljf"
Akuma "tatsu"
Doom "missiles or rocks"
Sentinel "mini mes"
Strider "vaj"
Phoenix Write “walk or papers”

I really want to keep people grounded for the high/low mixup. What do you guys think?

I’d go for cold star or drones. And if you’d want to use Strange, bolts would probably be your best friend.
