"Heroes for Hire" Iron Fist's Team Building thread

Do you mean while levelling up Frank?

Yes I do sir…the last two combos in the video embeded above kind of shows what I mean. If I use red chi to start the combo, I can do 1,000,000.
This may sound a little cliche`, but I’m very comfortable with level three Frank. I don’t waste meter unless I’m guaranteed the kill. Multi-hitting assists scale, TAC’s aren’t always safe and THC’s are useless if they don’t kill. All my opinion of course.

Alright I’m done here.

I hope I didn’t offend you my friend. That definitely was not my intention. I still have trouble landing hits against taskmaster, captain america, Ironman and some other characters. They’re definitely NOT a perfect team, but they style on you and they hurt really fucking bad.

Right now, trying to formulate a team for IF as well, running Hawk (triple arrow) and Hsien Ko (The Swinging assist). Seems alright so far, only been in the lab, too scared to play online but overall the lockdown with both assists would be pretty solid on the ground. Also a question, since for example theyre stuck blocking Hsien Ko assist, what are some possible mixups for iron fist or than maybe an overhead or crossup?

Iron Fist and Spencer have some pretty good synergy. After watching Heroic play this past weekend I went into the lab and was pleasantly surprised. I was using:

Iron Fist (Dragon Fang)
Spencer (Slant Grapple)
Taskmaster (H. Shot)

Im not really an Iron Fist player per say, but that team is fun as hell to use.

I’ve got two teams that I think could be the best for Iron Fist without resorting to Doom or Sent.

Iron Fist/Vergil/Strange
Iron Fist/Vergil/Strider

Thoughts?

I used Zero/Iron Fist / Strider for a long time, but i simply hated i how in the most cases strider died as soon he entered the screen, or how i didnt have 3 bars yet or how people kept jumping and blocking my oroborus… so now im playing zero/iron fist/vergil, i dont have how to punish that only-jumping bullshit players like doom / morrigan, but vergil is way more reliable. if you guys have psn and want to try me, Dark_BCE my ID =]

I like the Strange team a bit better. Bolts gives IF time and opportunity to get in on the opponent, and the shenanigans that are possible with Vergil with Bolts assist are crazy. Just watch out for Strange when you call him because IF has a problem covering assists and he can easily be killed with a beam/arrow supper from characters like Dorm, Nova, Ryu etc.

I have mixed feelings about Strange bolts, even though I run it for my team. Bolts are great, but bolts cover a very high portion of the screen. It will whiff on crouching opponents and characters like Wolverine and Zero can move freely if you’re not already in range to attack. IF is very poor at pressuring and forcing the opponent to stand unlike tridash characters. Also you mentioned above that IF has a problem covering assists and Doctor Strange has literally the longest assist time in the whole game (long startup/active/recovery). I love Strange bolts, I just think it’s not the most effective assist for IF. :frowning:

Yes and no. All of Strange’s assist require him to be out on screen for an extended amount of time. The Eye is his next best assist however for IF, unless your opponent is already in the corner or you use it to start some sort of cross up, it wont help him much. The Daggers assist almost requires you to watch out for him even more than Bolts in my opinion. You are right that since Strange is so tall, Bolts will go right over short characters. But use that to your advantage. If you see them ducking, go up and throw them or hit em with the :qcb::m: overhead. Even if the Bolts dont hit, short characters are stuck under the Bolts until Strange leaves the screen or they time a super jump correctly in between bolts.

I was just saying Bolts in general is one of the longest assist. Fair enough, the run up and grab is a good idea. I may be simple minded but everything else mentioned above would lose to opponents just pressing buttons or mashing jab and what not. And if they’re crouching or short, Bolts would give no reason for them not to press buttons or even not to jump. The Crescent Heel is slow enough to either react or lose to people pressing buttons. And there’s no actual lockdown hits to stop them from advance guarding you if they block you. I guess the way to actually use Bolts is to use it from afar to stop people from moving around, provided that they are tall enough. I’ve just been comboed by crouching Dooms or standing Woverines/Zeros far too many times so I’m a bit critical of the assist itself.

Ehhhh I do hear what you mean and trust me i’ve lost to plenty of fools just mashing crouching lights the whole time. Main thing I’m saying is if you are going to use Strange, Bolts will help you out more. Even though it isnt really a lockdown, as you said, it makes people stop what they are doing usually and stay still if they decide to just crouch it which can help. And I take back what I said about the Daggers assist. It isn’t too too bad, but Strange just stays on screen too long in general and if he gets bopped during the assist, the daggers disappear and chances are, he’s toast. On any team I use Strange on, I stick with the eye or the bolts.

Again, Bolts definitely is a good assist, but it can definitely get you in trouble. If you are shying away from bolts, I’d say use the eye, and use Vergil’s Rapid Slash to help you get in. But again that can be dangerous…

What other characters do you play? Do you play Dante at all? Because IF, Dante, Strange would be a decent team in my eyes.

This sounds a lot like my current numero uno team of IF/Chris/Trish. Unless your yet to be determined anchor is providing some sort of lockdown or beam assist you’ll want to use Chris’ Gun Fire assist since it is essentially a beam. Personally, I would then want my anchor to provide me with some sort of anti air assist (I think Doom would be the best for this but I REALLY don’t want to use him… but looks like you do so go for it). I use Trish peekaboo to discourage jump-ins but maybe something like Strider’s Vajra assist or Hawkeye’s Ragtime Shot might suit you better (both are excellent anchors and work well as the 3rd character is a DHC chain… I think…)

Oh yeah for sure. I think Bolts is really the only way to go for IF. Dante is amazing team player overall and I’ve been playing IF, Spencer, Strange. IF and Spencer have rather unsafe DHC’s but they kill you in one touch. I honestly only put Strange in the team so I can utilize him for swag raw tag combos which I never got to finish… :frowning: Also I think the future of IF maximum efficiency will be to use him for raw tag combos. So team building with IF should definitely consider characters who can do that. Which is why I made my silly team lol.

Iron Fist/Vergil/Strider is very good. Vergil’s Rapid Slash assist pins opponents down after B+H and Strider’s Vajra assist stop people from running away.
Also, if you match up the colors on the team (red or white) you can barely see the low and overhead Rekka coming. lol.
My friend is now using Green Chi and gaining about 3 meters during a combo, then DHC’ing into Spiral Swords and killing most characters. He can also make Iron Rage and Volcanic Roar punish attempts safe by DHC’ing into Spiral Swords.

Iron Fist likes Strider’s Vajra assist as Takari showed at the Bushido Impact II tournament.

This seems as good as Iron Fist can get.

I want to pick up a character that no one in my scene uses. Iron Fist is one of those that i find interesting but I have a few questions
First, I am comfortable playing Doctor doom, Modok and captain America. So if iron fist has good synergy with two of the 3, that is what i want to build around

  1. How is iron fist as anchor?
  2. Does causing the crumple with iron fist and tagging into modok/doom reset damage and hit scaling? This is what attracts me most to the character. I feel like I can start iron fist backed with assists, gain crumple, and then swag a bit. Then, I can zone with modok backed by the flying kick assist and have iron fist as anchor?
  3. any other advice?

Awful.

Great assist yes, but unfortunately it does 2 things;
A) Gets you hooked on the assist and its utility; and
B) Makes you rage that Iron Fist is so ass but you can’t switch him because now you’re addicted

Sounds good, but you’re gonna struggle to get that hit, he’s a lot of work man.

Pick a good character instead, or prepare for grief!

  1. Arguably the worst in the game
  2. Iron Fist does a great job of building meter and dealing damage, so if you’re going for the kill, just wreck face with IF. If you want to go for some of Modok’s glorious shenanigans, however, oh man you could do that.
  3. Use Modok’s beam assist, learn his spacing, learn to hit confirm opponents in the air. Iron Fist is bad, there’s just no way around it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t put in some damn fine work in with him (he also has the fringe benefit of being a lot of fun to use, so there’s always that). Make good use of s.M and f.H and don’t forget to use his lows. People up back against him because, honestly, why wouldn’t you? This makes people easy to train. Get them blocking neutrally, lock them down, then mix them up. Big damage no matter what you get them with.
