Help With Photoshop, Etc

Forgot to post this:

It’s an intro tutorial to using the tween and layer mask tools for border animations. With some experimentation, you can also create these types of borders:

Thanks Vegett0.

Kinda new to the whole making avatars thing but can anyone tell me if it’s possible to convert a .avi video file to work for an av? and if so with what program ( i bought the entire creative suite just not sure which is for what at the moment as i last used photoshop when 7 was new…)

:u: yeah, it’s possible.

you can open avi video files in imageready. however, you’re probably going to want to use a program like virtualdub to make a clip out of the video.

Thanks very much, i’ll look for virtual dub now, and about image ready, i don’t think i have that since i bought the CS3 creative suite… (could be wrong though, wouldn’t be the first time lol…)

You are correct. The CS3 Creative Suite [or PS CS3 in general] doesn’t come with ImageReady.

There’s a bunch of hoo-ha on how it’s new animating feature works, the flaws [and there’s one huge one as far as I’m concerned], as well as a bunch of other shit.

But uh…hang in there! :tup::soldier:

okay Ive opened up a PNG or GIF image but it wont let me duplicate the layers. why is that?

edit: nvm figured it out

Someone posted in another thread that they wanted to change the colour of Ken’s costume. Rei posted a Dood’s tutorial

I wanted to suggest an easier (to certain extent) and more useful method. As long as you happy using the lasso tool this should be a straight forward. (See PSD Attachment)

First of all you need to backup of the original image cut out from its background, because you will need to this should you want to create more colours in the future.

All you need is to cut out the parts you want to change colour make that a single layer. Then hold Control + U , this will bring up a window called Hue/Saturation, moving the slides left or right will either change the colour, the strength or the brightness.

You can use layer style for extra effect, colour overlays and gradients with different blend modes can work very well, for example trying to create pink using just control+u you will get a very washed out pink, there using a colour overlay of pink with a hue blend effect you will get a much fuller colour.

I have attached the psd I quickly did in about 3minutes. Paintings are harder to work with but sprites should be pretty straight forward…

You may notice some of the edges of kens skin and hair the red costume bleeds onto (style of the drawing)you would have to lasso that area but with feather set to about 2px(the orginal image was 1600x1200 so when it gets shrunk down these errors are not very noticable). With a bit more time it would look much better.

Extra Notes

  • when working with sprites, when using the magic wand make sure anti-alias is turned off.

  • Remember to back up the original once you have cut it out of its background, otherwise trying to alter the hue and saturation of an one that you have already done will give you poor results and far less choice of colours.

  • I have not figured out how to do white yet! But I think it will just be a matter of grey scaling the original then giving it a high enough contrast that the lines show but everything washes out, and then finally using layer and blend styles to adjust. (thats my theory lol)

  • This method works for single colours! If you look at the original Ibuki image that Dood used her pants consist of two colours, therefore you will need to do each part separately or just use layer and blending styles as I have done below).

I’ll tell you low grade way to fix that lol. PrtScn, paste, crop to image. There you go.

About the color editing, Dood provided a great tut for sprites.

For artwork/renders/etc., you should use layer masks. This tutorial gets the same job done as described in The Furious One’s post, but with less clutter and easier management. It also uses non-destructive editing which will allow you to easily go back and make changes or add other layer effects/masks.

Awesome I will be using that method from now on!! :karate:

thanks vegett0 for re-uploading the tutorial. :china:

No problem.

I was surprised at my bandwidth situation though.

Dumb question, but what’s the best free image hosting service out there? I just want to host a bunch of screenshots and direct link to the full versions (not thumbnails) on several forums. I almost signed up for flickr until i noticed that they don’t allow access to the original file. Photobucket seems like it’ll work, but Fox annoys me plus i found some old SRK thread where a bunch of people were talking shit about it in the vaguest terms possible.

I use this now, haven’t had any problems http://www.imagehosting.com/

ImageShack: Has a multi-uploader, which saves time but the direct link doesn’t seem to work like it used to [sometimes when used in [img] tags, it’ll show a blank post here on SRK].

Tinypic: Awesome site, but only has single uploads at a time. Comes with a click option, where a click copies the link [instead of Ctrl+C optioning]. Comes with an [img] code right off the bat. Good for SRK and similar forum use.

:wonder: If you sign up with them you get 5 slots. Tinypic is my favorite because they don’t have a file size limit and their links are small… dood.

Wikipedia says tinypic is “owned and operated by Photobucket.com.”

Kinda wanna stay away from ImageShack cuz of all the popups. No clue about ImageHosting cuz their FAQ page says nothing about them and they don’t have a wiki profile.

Hmmmmm…

Photobucket.com is fine. I never have a problem with it… Just learn to size your photos before uploading or post a link…

Hi guys, I got a template for the hrap2 from the tech talk forum. I put it some art and Im having a problem. What resolution should the pictures Im trying to use as a background be? The one im trying to use looks pretty bad in the template because its being squished. Does that fix itself when its printed? This is the picture Im trying to use
