Help With Photoshop, Etc

Alright, I got something that has been bugging the hell out of me.

How do I get nice curved borders to look…well…nice. I was trying to get “fancy” with a recent av idea but it would come out jagged

It must be the overall size does not allow it to come out smootly? I guess it makes sense since smaller canvas = less pixels or am I missing some info about transparency?

Edit: Deleted images since I now know how to get around the problem.

Did you round the edges by hand [i.e. cut them with a tool] or did you go use the BORDER>SMOOTH, etc options?

I used the rounded rectangle tool to get the shape I wanted. For the actual stroke around the edges, I just ctrl+clicked the layer to select the shape and went to edit -> stroke.

Can anyone help me out? I would like to make my own avatar, but don’t know how. I’m using photoshop 5.0 lol. I don’t have alot of room on my computer for a newer version. I think I have like a 20 gig hard drive lol.

You should at least try to get to PS7. That shouldn’t be to big iirc, and can get the job done. . plus a lot of plug-ins don’t work with version lower than PS sucha s brushes. etc. .

Whats the difference between say photoshop 7 & photoshop CS or photoshop elements. All I want to do is make a nice little av. Is there any tutorials on how to make a basic 1.

There’s no real difference if your starting off imo. PS7 though has more options in terms of plug-ins than prior PS’s if you need better brushes, gradients, filters, etc. That and the first knewb thing it let’s you do is have an easy interface to customize your brushes for when you use them. To make avs i guess a sig tut would work well if you don’t want animation so:

always work for me. . .

Any tutorials on animation (ex. gif’s) and those cool effects(like tat guy’s av)???

there was plenty of information in the old photoshop thread, but now i can’t find it.

I know, there was a nice tutoial at the beginning of that old thread …

I can make a tut for this av if anyone wants me too. …it’s actually pretty simple. . .

Hell yeah!! im a beginner PS user ,that would help me greattly tat guy

Links to the old threads are available in the SPOILER tag in the first post.

Edit: Oops. Forgot to post the link to the old Tutorial Thread. I’m workin’ on it…

2nd Edit: There we go!

ANIMATIONS

[The only method I know as of now. There are others]

You’ll need ImageReady, which comes in the Photoshop folder in your Program Files [if it hasn’t already installed itself in your Start Menu already]. Just double click it to make it work.

After that, you’ll need to know the basic windows.

ANIMATION
This window will allow you to create the animating [hence the name…]. You’ll start out with only one box there, but you can later add more frames by clicking the NEW FRAME button, which is located in the ANIMATION WINDOW.

LAYERS
Here you’ll have the stuff that will appear in the frames of your GIF. WHATEVER YOU WANT IN YOUR GIF, WHETHER IT BE A SMALL BALL OR WHATEVER, YOU NEED TO HAVE A LAYER FOR IT. If you don’t, it won’t show up.

I’d go into more, but this current computer I’m on [at school] doesn’t have Photoshop for me to take PRINTSCREENS and show visuals. Tomorrow though, I should be able to go into more depth…after my final.

Ok so I got photoshop CS3. Anyone want to show me how I can make a cool non prem avatar thats quick and easy lol. I’m a beginner so have patience. lol

were on the same boat , i been lookin around the net for some tut’s, some are good others require alot of patience…One thing that gets me is cutting the images

Animations on CS3 is hardddddd… i don’t know what to do… lol

Thanks to Vegett0 for this Pro-Tip!

In order to work with GIFs with CS3, you’ll need to convert the GIF into a PSD using another program, such as Fireworks.

When you open a GIF directly into CS3, for some reason it wants to compress it into one layer [thus defeating the GIF purpose, which sucks…]. This is as far as I know. If someone knows a way to change CS3’s way of thinking to NOT compress GIFs into one layer, I’m all ears.

I only had about 30 minutes actual hands on time with it…

So after half a day of tinkering with it, Ii guess you can go file>import>video frames to layers… then wait… wait some more… then type in . in the file name box and click load… then open up the gif image you want. It should work.
