Help With Photoshop, Etc

Yep that worked wonders. GIMP is pretty much identical to PSP in most respects (other than some minor inconveniences)

So is there any way to reduce the file size of a gif without destroying quality or quantity of frames? I’ve compiled a gif out of about 100 images and the file size is 4MB. I need to get it down to around 1MB or less if it’s somehow possible. I don’t really want to cut frames, but if I have to, will it dramatically reduce fluidity, or will it still look okay?

Reducing file size will have to destroy either one or both [of quality/quantity].

If you reduce the frames, you’re better off deleting every other frame and then adding some time delay to each one to make up for the speed increase that would follow. That should help cut down on some file size. It varies.

I see, cool, thanks. The images I’m using are JPEG, would using PNG’s help to reduce file size? Or would it’s effects be minimal? I think this is going to be a hard gif to get the way I want it…

I think PNG would increase the file size if anything. I’d stick with JPEG.

Cool, thanks. So, if the image was smaller, would that make the file size smaller? I know it would make the quality appear better so not sure how it would compensate… Also, if I’m to trim the edges around the image to cut some of it out, do I have to deal with each image individually? Or are there ways to do it to all images? I’m using gimp so not sure you’ll be able to help me directly with that, but if techniques like that are possible in general, it would be good to know.

Old post, but meh.

Could be wrong, but I think all you have to do is make a trans layer on top of the bear and change the layer type. So make a transparent layer, fill it with a multi-color gradient pattern, then just change the layer type. (Color overlay?)

Is there any way for me to redefine points with a pen path? I already made one that is mostly good except for a few remaining pixels in a few spots. Is there something I can do to take out the remaining pixels or do I need to make a new path?

You can use the Direct Selection Tool [shortcut key A] and click on a point on the path.

Then press ALT and drag the point where you need it to be.

Is this what you meant?

I just tried what you suggested and it let me move points, but it moved the whole path with it. I think I’ll just grab the brush or spray tool and carefully tint those remaining pixels with black. That cut took me 2 days so I’m not doing it again lol. Thanks for the help though Sas.

Sounds like you might have used the Path Selection Tool instead of the Direct Selection Tool (They’re very similar - The Path Selection Tool has a black arrow as the icon and the Direct Selection Tool has a white arrow as the icon)

If you have the pen tool selected, holding CTRL will turn the tool into the Direct Selection Tool.

  1. Select the pen tool
  2. While holding CTRL, click on the path (Anchor points should show, but should be unfilled squares)

If you want to move the point:
3a)While holding CTRL, click on the anchor point you want to move (If you want to move multiple anchor points at once, hold SHIFT as well as CTRL to select additional anchor points)
4a)Still holding CTRL, click and drag the selected anchor points to the desired location.

If you want to re-define the curve at the anchor point:
3b)While holding ALT (Allows you to use the Convert Point tool), click and drag the anchor point you’d like to change to re-define the curve.

I personally prefer this method as it lets me do everything from the Pen Tool without having to select different tools. You can do the exact same thing by going and selecting the respective tools.

That works perfectly dever, I’m still doing more pen stuff tonight so I will make use of it

I just made this wallpaper but when I applied it it turned out fuzzy and blurred.
Is it because I added the video effect or the fact I saved it as a PNG.
How it looks on my desktop:

It’s probably because of how you made the lines n the background. If you look at that on a different resolution and allow your computer to stretch it out and whatnot to fit your native resolution, those lines will also stretch out and not be the same.

Whereas you would see \\\ on a screen, if you stretch it out or something it will probably look like XXXXX.

Or something. This is just from personal experience as when I tried to apply an awesome wallpaper that was smaller than my native resolution it didn’t look as coo’.

Or somethin’…

Hey Okuma.

I’m sure it’s what Sasmasta said. Go to desktop settings and position and select ‘center’ instead of ‘stretched’.

After I posted that, I just right clicked it, set it as my desktop and put it so it’s centered. :razzy: God damn, I’m such a scrub when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to answer Frank & Sasmasta

how do you? and what type of filter is used on this photo to give it this effect? not the eye part I know what that is. Im wondering for the picture as a whole?
