Help stopping soda addiction?

Yo “100% juice” does not mean shit. Even completely natural, untampered fruit juice, contains a lot of natural sugars.

And said natural sugars are just as capable of turning someone into a fatass as the engineered kind are like HFCs.

Thus they’re nearly just as bad as drinking regular soda, and should also be taken out if one has any hopes of dropping a little weight and getting in better shape.

Same here. Mainly it was the expense thats caused my recent stint of no-diet soda. I was going through the 12-packs too fast.

Diet Sunkist for example, geez they made that stuff TOO good!

Lately i’ve been drinking crystal light and similar, cheaper sugar-free drinks instead.

Agreed. The way i see it million, upon Million, upon MILLIONS have been consuming artificial sweeteners like aspartame for the last 60+ years now.

If the side-effects were that bad, we’d definitely know by now. There would be no covering this crap up.

So I’ll gladly take my chances with the alleged health risks of artificial sweeteners, Vs the very REAL negative health impact presented by the regular stuff.

Like i said in an earlier post, one major contributor of the obesity rates today is due to mass consumption of junk sugared drinks.

just stop, drink water/alternatives, and after about a week or so you should be good. it’s not comparable to real addictions so it should be alright.

I used to have major soda addiction beginning of high school. stopped drinking all sodas for years after. then I got a taste of diet coke and OMG…I was majorly addicted to that. a couple years later I eventually got some mountain dew charge (whatever the dark blue one is) and sprite “addictions” too. I have just recently (about 3 weeks ago) gone cold turkey again. It’s really not hard. Simply don’t buy any soda and you’re good.

I drink hella water and sometimes some v8 fusion lights or bolthouse farms vanilla chai soy protein drink (yum)

I should have expected rsigley to have the best advice in the whole thread.
Good on you, sir.

Go out in 90 degree weather for awhile and do something. When the sun starts making you salty (no pun intended), you’ll be craving for an semi-frozen bottle of Deerpark just to wipe your face with it.

Stock up on Martinelli’s Apple Cider. It’s just carbonated apple juice.

As for me, I always keep a case of Cherry Coke in the fridge, but I only drink it when I eat fast food type meals… which averages to once a week. That’s just me though. I just feel that soda is a good thing to have with burgers, pizza, etc.

I’ll just have water or juice whenever I’m thirsty.

That stuff is the shit. Every thanksgiving and xmas.

I am in the throes of coca-cola addiction myself. Three years running strong. It all started in my last year at college when I would get up really late in the day and go get a sandwich and a cola. The cola woke me up and was refreshing.

Now three years later I actually have a small hole in the upper corner of one of my front teeth cause like a genius would drink out of a straw in the same place in my mouth.

The funny thing is, whenever I have a beer or some wine, I feel way better. But that’s a worse addiction right?

juices provide vitamins and other nutrients that coke can’t provide; theres no reason to avoid it just because it contains naturally occurring sugars. what’s next, your going to tell me to avoid eating any kind of grains because they’re loaded with carbs?

I think the beer idea is the way to go.

I’m pretty much addicted to soda as well I think. But I almost always drink caffeine free diet. Sometimes I’ll drink one with caffeine at work, though, if I didn’t get much sleep the night before. The carbonation is basically what does it for me.

i said i wanted to quit and I did. been 5 years

Thats nothing a cheap vitamin supplement won’t provide. Such as those generic 1-a-days.

There is if you happen to be one of those types that wants to lose weight & be in better shape. Consumption of sugared drinks, natural or otherwise, will be awfully counterproductive to your goals.

Any diet plan out there worth two shits will tell ya, one of the first things to do is stop drinking that crap.

100% JUICE

and water. That’s all you should drink. Soda is a “dessert” type thing.

friends dont let friends drink calories.

Don’t buy any.

If you open your fridge and you don’t see any, well obviously then you can’t drink any!

No seriously I did that like 6 years ago. I barley touch soda anymore, maybe 20 to 30 times max a year, and it’s usually with alcohol.

20 to 30 times max lol. just stop drinking it you pussy. its fucking soda, not heroin.

i stopped drinking soda coz im too lazy to go buy some 2-liter bottles. but if there’s a can or bottle around, you know damn well its gonna be gone by the end of the day

As a person who used to drink about 15 cans of Coca-Cola a day, I’ll let you know what I did:

  1. In this house, everyone drinks Coke, but what I did was that I minimized the amount of cold ones in the fridge by never putting them in there in the first place. Some people might think you’re a dick because of it, but I’d rather get cold water instead of looking for a new can, opening the freezer, grabbing ice, etc.

  2. Substitution. Some people use water. I used 7-up at first so I could stop being addicted to caffeine and cola, while keeping the soda. Afterwards I cut the 7-up completely for water and juice. Specifically I drank Ocean Spray’s Light White Cranberry. Find something you can stick with while you beat the habit, because flavor is the one thing that makes people want to go back to soda so badly.

  3. Cheat day. Once a year, I have a Coke. Literally, once a year. I know it might bring back cravings for the next week or so, but there’s nothing like enjoying a nice pizza with an ice cold Coke, so I make it a point to relish it at least once a year, so I don’t go crazy after say 5-10 years without one. Kind of like how Weight Watcher’s diet plan lets you cheat once a week so you don’t get fatty cravings.

All in all, I’ve been a good 3 years now without Coca-Cola, specifically. I’ll have a 7-up or two every once in a blue moon to settle my stomach, but it doesn’t go beyond that. And I keep them warm, in the closet, instead of the fridge where they are very accessible and cold.

I wish you luck. The first three months for me were hell.

I had to slowly replace it.

I mostly had to NOT BUY soda and processed drinks, and instead rely on tea bags + water, maybe powdered gatorade (cheap, but processed), and possibly juice.
Now I don’t even have any soda, juice, or powdered gatorade in my house. I drink various types of teas and just plain water.

Eating some real plants, eg Fruit, will give you a lot of sugar.
A lemon is VERY sweet and makes some tea taste sweet.

I had to go through this for my whole diet. I had to work hard to remove processed foods. I had to work hard to learn how to cook every day. I am continuing this exercise and it may well last for the rest of my life, and I am ok with that.

This pretty much sums it up. It’s definitely easier to stay away from soda when you make it more of an inconvenience for yourself. My family never stores soda in the fridge, even opened 2 liter bottles so it was easier for me to switch to juice and water.

Also, don’t feel pressured to order soda at restaurants. It’s a tough habit to kick, but I found that doing this actually allows more room for food in my stomach. It also feels more satisfying than that bloated feeling you get when you drink soda with your meal.

Don’t buy sodas. Real easy. Buy bottled water instead.

The only time I ever have a soda is when I go out to eat.

If you have a caffeine addiction just chug coffee instead of soda.

It makes you look more grown up and makes you hyper as fuck.
