[Help]PS3 DS3 6axis controller hack

so if im correct i need a 1K resister bridging pins 7 and 8 and a second 1K resister merging from pin 14 to 13…?

and yes, i do take the hard route… it can be done. so i do it… and i learn fairly fast.

and i acknowledge everyone’s tips on going the easy way. I appreciate it.
but the most important part is that the controller im using has been purchased from ebay as a defective item for 12 US dollars… the seller has plenty… i can start over if i fail.

Ego is a powerful thing. I wish you the best and will try my hardest not to say ‘told you so’ if it doesn’t work out!

Just playing, of course. Post pics if you can

that sixaxis I posted was $9.99 US, in case you fail . Just a thought!

you’ll want to use values closer to the original resistor values. Use values the diagram has listed, ~7.5k - 8.5k ohms. The pins you need to connect to them is right.

yes thank you for that link. i will probably pick it up in a few days.

and hopefully u will say “im impressed” instead of an “i told you so” lolol!!

any tutorials on how to make a specific box? like with angles measurements and what not.

im a hardcore marvel vs capcom 2 player, so im going to go with the straight across 6 button setup.

Than 7.5k-8.5k ohms it shall be.

i really appreciate the help guys.

any other advise? since u guys are pros at doing this… anything i should watch out for?? like mistakes not easily missed?

Yeah, that solder iron, hold the plastic handle, not the metal side. Took me a few times to learn.

, sorry, just had to.

If this is your first soldering experience, head over to radioshack and get a board to practice on. And it wouldn’t hurt to have a little soldering station, something with a lens to magnify those tiny, tiny points. I’d still say you’re setting yourself up for a lot of frustration and random cursing, but if you succeed, make sure to post about it, I’d love to see it.

If we use the slagcoin pic as reference, there are 4 common lines:

1 (U,D,L,R,L1,L2)
2 (home)
3 (select,start)
4 ([],X,/,O,R1,R2)

Home doesn’t use the same line as select and start. But you said you don’t have that PCB so I would double check the whole pinout: maybe it’s the same, maybe not. We can’t check that for you if you don’t post a pic of the flexi PCB.

lol ill head over to radioshack. and ill post pics of the progress.

and MKL, my flexi is the exact same one as the one on slagcoin

Toddles is totally right. I nearly busted my DS3 pad when I did my hack. In the end I pulled it off thanks to Toodles and Gummowned. As for a diagram I got this of the pad hacking thread hope it helps you.

My pad hack:

charliedrum’s one post has everything you need to know for the mod (since its the exact same thing your trying to do, even the same pad version).

That’s the one I saw a while back. Get some 26 gauge stranded. Solid core could rip out a contact. And pre-tin the tips of those wires. I would reccomending stripping less of the wires than charliedrums, because when you pre-tin the tip some of the insulation will melt backwards. Maybe strip off 2 or 3 mm. Also heat up the contact on the pcb before dropping on that wire.

thanks for the help guys! i started soldering yesterday, but failed epically on my finger… so i put everything down whent to grab a smoke outside , and some girls walked over to me… and i totally spaced the project haha… had fun tho.

… ok… siiiggghh.

so i was 3/4 of the way done soldering to the pins… and i over heated one and it broke… then i tried soldering it back… and i absolutely screwed it up…

Wheres that adapter? i need to buy that… and a new controller… woooow im so disappointed.

guess the leo method bit my in the arse.

All is not lost. Charliedrums screwed up on pin 19 and 20 but was able to wire it from an alt spot. There are alternate spots you can solder to on the back. You’ll need to trace them yourself since the alt spots in slagcoin’s diagram is only for the sixaxis boards and not DS3.

And what part exactly were you doing in my guide? That guide was made for doing a dual wireless mod, so I don’t see how that could of helped.

Also post up WHICH pin you overheated. Some of them are redundant and not needed and redundant.

no guys, i dont think u understand haha. i wrecked the controllers shiet…i got mad once it broke off… and i told my 3 year old son stomp on it… its done… new controller please!!

That’s not crazy. That’s stupidity.

There are so many other ways to teach yourself how to do stuff like this and end up with a working controller.

The DS3 isn’t worth hacking yourself.

Get a cthulhu kit and you’ll teach yourself plenty about how to solder and “making” an electronic device.

lol, wut?

lol. i ruined the pcb… im starting over with a sixaxis adapter… lol.

stop the hatred. i will succeed one way or another.
