Help me coin a new term

winner imo

What am blocking out? That I refuse to subdivide music into 20,000 different sub genres sub sub genres and sub sub sub genres that don’t make any sense are confusing annoying and misleading?

Well I’m not just full-parrying, I’m striking back with huge combos of pownage.

I’m not calling Deftones nu-metal and I’m not calling BMTH “screamo”. Nu Metal and Rap Metal were dumb labels 20 years ago they are dumb labels now.

Look up Linkin Park genres and here’s what you get: Alternative Rock (no), Nu Metal (no, it was after Deftones/Korn and a completely different, shitty sound), Alternative Metal (lol it’s as mainstream as it gets), Rap Rock (the only label that fits).

Now you see why I don’t do this? It’s dumb. No band should fit 5 fucking genres. If I was going to label them I’d call them Mainstream Shitty Rap Metal.

I fully understand all of this ok. Nirvana Et Al was called “alternative”, even though it was hugely popular and mainstream, it was called alternative to differentiate itself from the hair Metal and crappy radio big band rock bands of the day. Nu Metal was called that because Metal was dead from 1991-1995, 1995 kicked off a new Metal movement with bands like Deftones Coal Chamber Korn and others. Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit was Rap Metal or Rap Rock and they often confused that with Korn and on and on it goes.

The genre label made sense 25 years ago, it does not make sense now. Nirvana deserves to be and is in the same genre as Led Zeplin The Doors and The Beatles. It’s rock and roll. So are all the great bands from that era.

Your parents don’t call Pink Floyd “esoteric rock” or “acid rock” they don’t call The Doors “Emotional Rock” and The Who, Led Zepplin, they don’t call Rush “coked up Intergalactic Alien Rock” they didn’t make up terms for these bands even though they are as far from The Beatles as you can get, they just called it ROCK N ROLL. Keep it simple stupid. I’m fully aware of all of this I’m not being dense, I’m standing up and saying it’s fucking dumb.

Rap doesn’t have this problem. There’s Rap and Hip Hop. Well there’s Metal and there’s Rock. Any questions? No? Good because there shouldn’t be. Anyone who thinks “Screamo” is a genre probably thinks that there are more than 2 genders.

The only dumb genre sub label that is necessary still is for bands like The Strokes The White Stripes and every band from the 00’s that had “The” in front of its name: Pretensious Rock

Nice to see that CryingMario is still butthurt because i don’t like his beloved DmC

I also hate Run DMC. Unless you meant Devil May Cry? I love Devil May Cry, especially the awesome metal music that plays during fights.

Oh wait omg what am I saying, I didn’t correctly specify what sub genre the music in DMC is how dare I call it Metal when it’s actually:, Numatic Japanese Indo Metallic Capcomious Screamo.

Fuck, oh my god, someone quick cut my nuts off how dare me someone might confuse it with Non-Numatic Death Screamo Babble Namconian SNKian Metal, fuck me. At the very least argue with me for over a week about it, I mean come on, this cannot be tollerated!!

We can never be friends.

Hates a strong word. I’m just not a fan of 80s hip hop. My rap is Snoop, DRE, 90s and beyond. I appreciate what it did and understand it paved the way and was important, I just don’t have it on my iPod.

While Hipster covers a wide variety of hipster ways, isn’t the main thing pretty much not doing/liking anything “mainstream”.

I thought that was what originally defined a hipster and it’s kind of grown from there, so much so that you can tell a hipster most of the time without needing to talk to them. But the basis was, they don’t like anything that’s popular.

That pretty much covers this aspect of dissing on mainstream music.

At the same time it’s become an annoyance because if someone shows you a song and it’s genuinely been out for months even close to a year, you’re now almost void from saying ‘Oh yeah I heard that like, a year ago’ cause you sound like an auto-hipster haha. That is, if you don’t like it anymore because it’s been played on radio 1 more than 5 times.

OK so I finally read or skimmed through the rest and focused more on the portion of the thread topic.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but basically you want to know a word that describes a person that only likes bands that never got big enough to be acknowledge by mainstream media and the general population of people. Going further, as soon as band takes route of becoming widely known, certain fans stop supporting them as their new found status devalues their “underground” roots, even if the content of the music is the same.

If we take it as face value, to me, that’s just immaturity. I’ve never personally met people that stopped listening to their favorite bands due to increase of popularity. I’ve met people that have done so due to selling out and changing their style, myself included.

Going on with what you asked about “name for these kinds of fans, these special snowflakes who think you’re only cool if you listen to some band nobodies ever heard of. A name to label these dumb “fans” and this phenomena” Again, its just immaturity.

That’s about it. The only time I’ve heard this reasoning was in highschool.

This thread is so fetch.
